Attempts at "Fan Boy" insults aside, I don't ever recall being given a specific date when any product from any company is Pre-Ordered or on Back-Order. Normally, you just get it when it becomes available. They will sometimes give a time frame, as Apple did.
Apple said you would get your notification when your product ships. Now if they ship the product without e-mailing you, I think you might have a point. But, honestly, and without hysteria, I think you're holding Apple to a different standard.
WOW. You need to expand your horizons! Spend five minutes researching pre-orders for videogames and DVD releases on Amazon.com. Yes, they are all available for pre-order, and yes, they DO give exact day of release... months ahead of time. So you might want to rephrase that statement...

People, me included are excited about the iPad coming out, I am counting the days even though I have no shipment date, so let people get excited. just like everything else, if you dont want to read it don't, if so do. That simple. I enjoy these forums for this reason. Plus people don't have all day to search for info so we rely on one another. Let us be geeks and all is well....

If you aren't lying about the shipping info, I guarantee you that tomorrow FedEx tracking will say something like "package held at request of sender"
He posted in another thread that it was a power cord that shipped, not the iPad.
How can this be?
I will be in Omaha the day my iPad delivers to Florida AND my hotel is within view of an Apple store(literally one block) I was so hoping to have it for my trip. Bill Gates would have caught a glimpse of me using my iPad (Berkshire Hathaway meeting) but nooooooo. I won't see my iPad until Monday when I get back! Waaaaaahhhh:-(
I will have to join the crowd at the store 5pm and take a pic with my empty case, smiling and being a happy Apple customer
And no, don't even think about me trying to change shipping to Omaha! I don't want to chance it. I can't wait to have my iPad

Some of us have been in that status for over 24 hours now.
My order will be delivered today!
The status changed overnight since yesterday it was still "prepared for shipping" and this morning I woke up at 3am, I got the email @1:37am from Apple store:
We are pleased to inform you that one or more of your items has shipped. Please see the details of the shipment below. If you ordered more than one item, they may ship separately.
