Dude, thats the same thing as saying you wont get a 30GB iPod because it isnt 100GB. Whats wrong with getting the best of something you're investing so much in, especially if you can afford it.

So what? I saved $100 on space I'm probably not gonna even use except only for videos. I bought the iPhone mainly for using it as a phone at this point as I own a high capacity iPod.

that's a fair point, purchasing the iphone squarely for the phone features. i'm sure a lot of people, however, see the iphone as an opportunity to buy it as a convergence device, something that could eliminate the need to carry both an ipod and a phone. as such, i want all the space i can carry, and i don't think 4 gb would have been enough for me.

yeah i totally agree, but I gotta have all my music. It would be too hard for me to just pick certain albums and put them on the iphone due to limited space. So I think my best bet is to use both devices as of now and wait for a higher capacity iPhone. :D

I imagine that the first generation iPhones will be eligible for upgrade to a larger hd chip (16gb or 32gb) in the same way that hard drives are able to be upgraded -- by Apple Certified Techs. When thelarger chips come around, you just buy one but to keep your iPHone warranty, you have to have an Apple Tech put it into the phone for you.

In that scenario, it doesn't matter if you got the 4 or 8 gb.

I could be wrong about this, but I cannot see how Apple would care if a Tech put the new chip in down the line.

has apple in its entire history done something that would lead you to believe this?

Memory is not the bottleneck of the iphone's potential right now. It's the battery. I was thinking about the 8 gig Iphone. But I figured, what's the point? I'd need the extra room for movies, but videos will drain the battery badly. I use the Iphone for what it's intended for, a communication device, whether phone or internet. And if a video is going to stop me from doing that because of the battery, I don't see the point. Until some super lasting batteries come out, All of these all in one devices will be bottlenecked. Once the great batteries come out, all in one devices such as the iphone will really be worth using for everything.

Exactly....

As a convergence device...its cool..but for 500 bucks..its a pretty terrible iPod. A choice between 4 and 8 Gigs ?

The iPod part of the phone seems like an after thought...its almost a lite version of what an iPod is...and thats cool...but I thought the point of an iPod was to have your whole music collection in your pocket....and for video....the movies on iTunes are like a gig and half to begin with, so you can't put more then a few on there if your also gonna have music.

I can save 100 bucks ...which will be good cause the thought of paying 500 bucks for a phone makes me mental.

OR I'll actually be able to wait until theres iPhone 2 or an iPhone nano...Once this beta test is over, and get a kick ass 8 gig touch screen phone for like 300 bucks. While regular iPhones stay at 500 bucks and go to like 20 gigs.

most people's music collections don't go beyond 1,000 songs. remember, that was the original catch phrase of the ipod, "a thousand songs in your pocket." aside from the song capacity, i think the iphone handles the ipod functions very well. anything the ipod can do that the iphone can't (lyrics) can easily be fixed with a software update.

Couldn't agree with you more... but I couldn't resist. The iPhone is really a amazing product and I intend to use it to it's fullest until an upgraded version comes around and replace it with it so I could use it as an iPod/iPhone.

id like to add that one week prior to the glorious june 29th date... i bought an att 8525 thinking what many of the doubters thought (the keyboard will suck.. i will be a beta tester.. no IM) suffered from a bad case of buyers remorse returned it and got an 4gb iPhone on the 29th. :D

8GB is too little for me, but I would *never* bash a 4GB iPhone. It's identical and as great in every way except in how much music and videos it holds. That is the only difference, so who cares?

People who got the 4GB saved $100-$108 (tax), and they have less space, but they have an amazing phone, iPod, and Safari (makes no difference to Safari).

The 4GB iPhone is still an iPhone and does everything mine does!

Yes. This is the standard policy for harddrive replacement. If you buy it from an Apple Certified Tech and have them replace it for you, you are still under warranty.

yeah.. that definitely isn't going to happen; that dude can keep dreaming though...

You buy the larger chip from an ACT, and have them replace it. This is the standard method of keeping your warranty now. The catch is you have to buy the hard drive from the ACT, which is usually full retail. I know because I've done this.

I hear that people who buy 4 gig iPhones smell really bad.

I *definitely* wouldn't want to call any ol' 4 gig phone with my amazingly shiny and superior 8 gig phone.

It just ain't right.

How does an iPod do Lyrics?

On that subject, wouldn't it be great if Apple incorporated the Interactive Booklets into the iPhone. With Pinching and all, you could just scroll through a booklet. I think it would be awesome. Of course, then Apple would need to start selling them to people who simply burned the song into iTunes.

How does an iPod do Lyrics?

if you go into the song info in itunes, there's a tab for lyrics. syncing to an ipod will transfer the lyrics over, and you can access them by pressing the center button on the ipod, cycling through a few windows (artwork, rating, etc.) until you get to the lyrics screen.

I agree, the iPhone isn't deigned to re-place peoples current music players, but to coincide with them (notice I said music players and not iPod).

Apple still sell 80GB iPods, if they thought that the iPhone was going to replace the iPod, they would have withdrawn the 80GB iPods quicker than you could say Mac 'n' Cheese.

Very Cool...is the easiest way to do this vis Copy/Pasting from the internet or is there some kind of program that will make it easier?

i use the sing that itune widget. it isn't the most elegant solution, since you have to activate the widget if you want to retrieve song lyrics, and there's no way to retrieve song lyrics for all your music at once. at least none that i'm aware of. maybe someone else might have a better suggestion.

I'd find it annoying because, why should other people care what you(or anyone else) buys...as long as it is your money, and the iPhone isn't stolen(or anything like that) why should anyone worry if you buy the 4GB or 8GB iPhone
