Case or no Case on the new iPhone?

I’ve own every iPhone except the 2016 iPhone 7.

Never purchased insurance. So 9 iPhones owned.

Only iPhone that has ever been damaged was original iPhone 2007 model. That was due to it being out of a case and me showing it to co worker and she dropped it cause it was slippery. Apple was more generous back in those days about replacing iPhones for free.

iPhone XS max I got delivered Friday. I went to sams club and found speck grip case (they had 2 pack for $30). Which is pretty good deal since one case on speck webpage dose $30 alone. I like the speck grip cases a lot. That’s just my person opinion. I’ve dropped phones accidentally a few times but they have always been in pristine 10/10 condition when I resold it.

I know I have 60 days to figure out the Apple care situation. But $200 Apple care plus for 2 years is pricey for my taste plus the $29 glass deductible or the $99 full replacement deductible.

Vs $329 out of warranty glass repair or $569 full replacement.

If I buy insurance. I’m guaranteed to be out $200 (or $10/month).

I think I will take my chances and not get Apple care. I can afford it. I know everyone has different financial situations. But if phone breaks. I will just suck it up and either buy another phone or get it repaired.

My 8+ is naked but I'll get an Apple leather or silicone case for my Max (no screen protector though). It's too expensive for me not to.

Since I haven't used a case in a long time, can someone confirm: are the Apple and leather silicone cases slightly raised on the front so if the phone is face down on a table the screen isn't directly touching the table?

Too expensive and too much time and hassle to do Applecare. I’d prefer to take it in for really serious problems. Case and screen protector aren’t expensive or difficult.

Agreed, too much time and hassle. Throw a nice Apple leather case on it. I had the silicone on my X and dropped it several times without any damage at all.

I like to place a very thin clear case to cover the rear from micro scratches when placing on a desk etc...

The only concern I have with the X/XS/XSM without a case is the edges. A chrome edge on the silver handset will attract micro scratches like anything, no?

Using the silicone case + Apple Screen glas protector (from Belkin) on the Max but of course naked it would be much nicer also for onehanded operation.
At home I usually use it naked but whenever I leave the case is being used.
Also seems the back is less prone to fingerprints than on the X.

Its a shame they talk so much about the design but then practically most people need a case (or shell out $200 for applecare which is a huge amount of money)

I've tried clear cases to try and let the design be seen, but still not found an ideal one

I'd love an official front + rear tempered glass protector to at least offer some protection from minor drops and scratches.

My phone is not for show, it is fuctional device which is always with me. $50 apple leather case and screen protector is already on mine XS max.

My X has been in a leather case pretty much since day one. to the point where the case is part of the look of the phone and the actual design is almost irrelevant.

Kind of makes me think about the Xr again - so what if it doesn't have steel edges if you can't see them? And the slightly larger bezel will be mitigated by cases that wrap around the frame.

Thing thing is beautiful without a case... I have speck grip case that I put on it. I actually don't mind it... Even though I prefer the Apple leather or silicone case, the speck one is pretty attractive and since I've had speck before, it's a great brand.

Only thing is, I am used to going case less on my iPhones. My 7 only had a case for a breif period of time before I ditched it. My 6s Plus had a case but I hated how bulky they were. My 6 had a case but I eventually ditched that too and my 4s and 5s never had cases.

The price tag is really the only thing holding me back. If it was a $750 phone, id probably without a doubt go classless. But with me spending nearly $1500 on it, I think even the basic speck case or apple case would do.

So... What do you guys think? Are you going caseless or are you going to protect the phone?
I am protecting my “true” ultimate 512 GB gold Xs”Max” with clear otterbox symmetry case to expose the stunning gorgeous eye catching gold color. Only “512” GB Xs”Max” is the most “true” and “complete” ‘Max (maximum)’ with maximum size and the best newest maximum storage.

 sure it is

I went with the apple leather case for my xsm. I would like a battery case but have not seen anything like to date.

I carry my phone on my belt so a case is pretty much mandatory. I use the Zizo Bolt case which is inexpensive and very protective. Adds a bit of bulk though

Yes they are. I have the white silicon Apple case on my XS Max

For the first time, I am seriously considering a dBrand skin, or similar.

Currently, I am using an Apple leather case. I’d rather no case at all. But, after spending $1000+, I feel it is compulsory...

There is no human who has never dropped their phone. The questions are two: How many times will you drop it? Will it have a case when you drop it?

I have iPhone XS Max in Gold and am using these cases:
Incipio DualPro Clear - daytime case
Otterbox Traction Series [blue] - heavy duty for night clubs and ****

eventually ill order spigen ultra hybrid black & tech21 pure clear. which is another 30-40$ these are more heavy duty yet sleek and thin without bulk

hoping to keep my phone for 3-4 years since incremental upgrades are now the norm of the future [look at a12 vs a11. 15% cpu improvement which is more important for me vs gpu]

edit: if i go caseless i need applecare w3hich is 300aud + 49/149aud repair charges... thats gonna cost me more of hassle.

I really like the Apple leather cases but this time I didn’t like any of the colours offered. I’ve just ordered a leather Grip from Story leather as they seem to be one of the very few companies that offer a wide selection of colours. In the past I’ve had Sena, Vaja and Piel Frama cases, but always preferred the Apple case, I’m just hoping it will be different this year.

I am currently going caseless on day to day activities but when I head to the gym I throw on a cheap case I bought on Amazon.

If you can afford the repair costs then go for it, why not?

AppleCare + would be a worthy investment without a case imo, I have AppleCare + and I still use a case because I'm clumsy.
