Case or no Case on the new iPhone?

applecare + and no case

Guess it depends on what you think is more likely to happen. I'm more concerned about scratching my device or dinging it as opposed to breaking it. With that in mind AppleCare doesn't really help me.

There is no human who has never dropped their phone. The questions are two: How many times will you drop it? Will it have a case when you drop it?

I’ve owned almost every iPhone and iPod. I’ve only used a case on rare occasions. I’ve dropped iPhones countless times and I’ve only had one broken screen. My iPhone X went buck naked for 12 months. It’s virtually pristine.

Apple makes these things to be naked. Put a case on it if you need to, but it isn’t absolutely necessary.

With the IUP you’re basically getting a new phone after a year. My X had a ton of scuffs and scratches all over the steel band and rear glass. I didn’t care. I’m sure my XS Max will develop some scuffs as well but overall the feel of a naked iPhone is just too good compared to a case. I tried an apple leather case on at the apple store and put it in my pocket and man you can really feel that phone with a case.

I was going to go naked with my max, but was just (ironically) watching a video showing how well it stands up to drops and notice the steel surround already has a small chip out of it.
It’s tiny, but just above the power button and on the edge with the glass so when you’re using the phone the light reflects off it making it really noticeable. No idea how it happened as it hasn’t even been in a pocket yet! :(

I used one of these on my 8 and it was literally immaculate when I traded it in, even after loads of drops.

It’s a shame as this thing is beautiful, but if this happens after one day of being ridiculously careful, I’d rather have the piece of mind.
Dude I had the same case on my 6 for 4 years and it kept it perfect. I bought this thing the day I got my Max I hope i’m as impressed with it on the Max as I was on the 6.

Yeah, I got mine yesterday and instantly stopped fretting over being careful. Stopped thinking about it and just used it like any old phone. Impressed so far as it fits like a glove, but there is a couple of holes in the bottom of the back. Hope nothing gets in there.

Both times I have broken my screen on my phone, it was when my phone was in a case and had a film screen protector. I still like cases for their overall grippy feel and to protect from scratches. I switched to glass screen protectors and the last time I dropped my phone, the protector shattered but the screen was fine.

With the X phones, I would definitely not go caseless, not with the glass back.

I have a Gold Max and I use a clear ultra thin case from, Totallee.
Totallee clear case is perfect. It's thinner than the official Apple cases, but thicker than the ridiculously thin cases from Peel that only offer scratch protection. Perfect middle ground.

I am super careful with my devices and have only dropped my phones a few times over the years. I use a case just for that reason. I’ve Had my X since December and haven’t dropped it yet but there’s no way I’d go caseless..

Now that I switched to The upgrade program I don’t have to worry about resale or scratches anymore

Thanks for all the replies. I’ve had it in a case since I got it but take it out now and then as I prefer it without a case!!! Going to give it a few days and see how it goes. I’m not fussed about a few scratches here and there. Just more worried about the screen. It’s a big phone and feels too bulky with a case on it.

I currently don’t have one on my XS. Much more grip than my 6 and 7 which I cased both of those cause they were so slick with that matte finish. The gloss finish really makes it easier to hold for me. Hate how cases pretty much scratch the phone up with grit that gets behind them. I went caseless with my 4 and 5 with no issues. The 5 was slick but smaller and easier to hold onto than the 6 and 7.
