Don't hold your breath with these results - there are metrics already that show that the A17 Pro is much more power hungry than the A16 or even A15...

Not too thrilled with this.

Was looking foward to the Geekerwan analysis. That's a shame, was hoping for efficiency gains from 3nm. I think most people like me really don't need more performance.

Yes, you're right. It'll be tight though and might not be the same after a week of battery aging. 😄
Yeah I don't have high hopes. My intuition tells me not to keep it , especially for the price this **** costs lol

On the other hand this year is gonna be packed for me, more than in the last 10 years, and I need reliable tools....

Furthermore I fear next year will bring the removal of the SIM in France (but hey worst case I'll go to Sweden?)

And I'm not even sure next year battery will be bigger (rumored 3600mah thingie) or the Soc will be better . Matter of fact iphones had notoriously terrible batteries prior to the 11 series

Man I really don't know what the **** do to haha

Is there a reason why the Pro phones are improved just by a little, whereas the non-Pro phones have improved a crazy amount?
Going by the latest screen specs i would speculate that 1 FPS LTPO screen went from 14 Pro to regular 15 and thus bumping the battery time.

I was afraid they would have taking it away even this year… why is worst case going to Sweden?
I've only seen rumors about France as well as another country (don't recall which)

In case they remove the sim from the french versions , I suppose I'll go to Switzerland, oh and now I'm realizing I said Sweden instead of Switzerland haha, guess all of this writing serves no purpose now does it

If you go by that old rumour, you would pretty much have to go on a tour of Europe trying to find an iPhone with that precious SIM slot! Neither Sweden, nor Switzerland would be of any help then! 😋

“If the SIM card tray is removed in France, it would likely be removed in at least some other European countries as well, as Apple typically sells one iPhone model in most of Europe. For example, the iPhone 14 Pro model A2890 sold in France is also sold in the UK, Ireland, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Poland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, and dozens of other countries.”

Oh ****...man. I wished there were true alternative to apple (especially phones), but all the good apps and tools are on iOS.maddening cuz it allows them to price it however they want, whilst limiting you to one pro only, and limiting he battery size (3200mah while s23 has 3900... c'mon)

Boy,
Apples to Oranges, no? It’s not like both having the same mah would imply the same runtime, given vastly different internals, power management, & OS…
Boy, I wish the iphone 14 pro had the same battery as my s23 trust me

Yeah you're right I gotta give a look at the internals again but I do think they could have fit a bigger battery in there am I wrong? I'll check

You're right that iOS is more optimized btw

Tomsguide are full of **** . They get their numbers and tables wrong. They don't know the software either

one example "The iPhone 15 Pro doesn’t let you adjust the refresh rate; it’s dynamic. "

How is that wrong about the refresh rates? Apple doesn't let you set the refresh rates on the iPhone. You can either have it set to a maximum of 120hz or a maximum of 60hz, but the phone dynamically adjusts the rate up to that maximum based on the activity on the phone.

The SPEC benchmark scores they report for A14 and A15 are very close to the Anandtech tests, but there is a big discrepancy in power readings. Anandtech reports over 4W for all these chips. I tend to believe Anandtech results more because they seem more inline with what I’ve observed with M1.

Does this YouTube channel disclose the power draw testing terminology? If they just measure at the charging port, that’s no good.

so we get less than an extra hour of efficiency going from 5nm chips to so called super efficient 3nm chips.

Apple. a Buch of Hype and lies about Apple Silicon.

Cant wait til the new 2nm chips come out in 2026.

More Hype and lies.

Just clinched my decision to do 15 and not 15 Pro. Love the slightly lighter weight (compared to my current 13) and more battery. Will save $$$ and increase daily QOL factors. I can forego 3x zoom and ProMotion.
The difference is basically a rounding error. You can’t control for everything in these tests, the Pro probably did some kind of background processing. This is less than a 1% difference over 11 hours.

I kept seeing the term "A17 Pro" so I Googled it, and sure enough, the A17 is actually called "A17 Pro."

I watched Apple's presentation but I guess I didn't notice at that point.

But I have to ask, why is it called A17 Pro?

There's no A17. A17 Pro implies the existence of an A17. Just like there is the M2 and the M2 Pro.

People speculated that they will not carry over whatever the naming CPU is in 15 Pro/Max to the regular iphone 16 - so Apple will call reduced version for regular iphones A18 and A18 Pro cause apparently, people having A16 and A17 in the same year make some people feel bad about them and their choices which is not good for extracting money.

Basically Pro as it stands now has +1 GPU core and higher clock speeds and USB3 speed support. Apparently they will call the next iphone's chip A18 which will be another way of saying "last year's chip" while Pro line will have A18 Pro.

Next year’s base iPhones will have an A17, I bet.

I bet it will be regular A18 while Pros would have A18 Pro. But in essence yeah, it will be stripped out version of A17.
Belittling something works bad on people's buying decisions as some people would make fun of the word mini.

Nah. This strategy would have still worked without the Pro naming.

A17 will be used for next year’s iPhone, the next iPad mini and future iPad. GPU will be stripped down from the A17 Pro.
