Hello people, should I buy the Apple Studio Display (ASD) now or wait for June to get the updated Studio Display Pro w/ Mini-led and Promotion according to this article.

The most conflicting thing is, if Apple does release a Mini led version of Studio Display at around $2000 $2300 then me buying an ASD right now would really makes me sad because it's just a difference of $700 and I plan to use this monitor for at least 7 years, but if it would be priced at $2500 then it wouldn't bother me at all.

I know, Apple is the most secretive company in the world, but some of you might have studied Apple for many years and what would you think about the pricing of new ASD w/ Mini-Led and Promotion and how much would it cost (ballpark, maybe)?
On the other hand Ming-Chi Kuo says no new mini-LED product this year - article.
So, according to you people what should I do?
Thanks.

Sounds like this is a want and not a need right now, so I would wait until June to see if the rumor is true. I know some people are saying Apple wouldn't release a new/better display just a few short months later. I would agree with that, but then there is the iPad 3/iPad 4 fiasco...so who knows what Apple is up to.

Buy yesterday if you need it. Buy tomorrow if you want it.

I’d love it if I’m wrong, but I don’t see that happening. At best, maybe a sneak preview. It seems that any such new monitor would be released with the updated Mac Pro, and I doubt that’ll happen before fall.

I don't think there will be a refreshed monitor, either. The only 'missing' feature is 120Hz, and not even the Pro Display XDR has that.

With respect to 120hz, does anyone even make a panel at 218ppi with this refresh rate? It seems Apple’s hands are tied in this respect.

Or more importantly, does any M1-based platform even support this bandwidth via USB-C?

You’re going to be disappointed. It seems very unlikely there will be another consumer level display this soon. And WWDC is about software.
Hardware does drop on WWDC and moreover Ross Young says the Studio Display Pro is gonna come along new updated Mac Pro.

You really expect a miniLED and 120Hz display for only 700$ more? That display would be way better than the current xdr display which costs >5000$! I would rather see this as the xdr successor with the same price.
Makes sense, but the leaker explicitly said 27" and not 32"

With ProMotion and XDR this display is unlikely to be very much cheaper than the Pro Display XDR itself. Prepare your wallets.
How much do you think it would cost?

In case of iPad Pro 12.9 4th gen to 5th gen which has XDR display Apple only increased $100 and for 13" MBP to 14" MBP increased $700.

I get it, $400 is a marginal increase, do you think like $700 increase is a fair guess?

I did it w/ M1 iMac and three months later the ASD dropped and I sold my M1 iMac at a loss of $300 as there was no sign of 27" iMac at all .

Mobile displays are not the same as big displays. e.g. Samsung is a leader in mobile OLED display but hasn't been able to produce a bigger version of it in the last decade (at least not in an affordable manner). An 27" panel is about four times the size of an 12.9" iPad panel, and the price will probably increase more than 4x. If the "Studio Display Pro" indeed uses a mini-LED panel, then in essence it's a minified version of Pro Display XDR. I expect it to be not much cheaper than the Pro Display XDR. ($2999-3999?)

But it's all up to Apple. They will charge the whatever they think consumers are willing to pay.

I just don't see it happening. For one, there are hardware limitations that would have to be overcome, namely the fact that no one makes a panel that would match those specs. Second, what would the message be to all of those that just bought the Studio Display? It already looks like a bunch of leftover parts pieced together. Imagine the uproar when they release a truly updated 27" monitor with modern features. Seems like Ross's sources are misinterpreting the tea leaves.

This rumor makes no sense.
Apple is going to offer another display with just 2 additional features at the same size??
And it will replace the BIGGER and DENSER 32" XDR???

Maybe they got it double backwards and there will actually be a 27" iMac Pro?

I will actually be mad as Apple has seemingly said on the record that there is not a 27" iMac of any kind imminent . . .

Indeed a great question b/c I plan to hook it up w/ M1 Mac Mini and if M1 devices doesn't support it then I should buy the ASD right now.
I think you've got your answer right there. Just a reminder to not listen too close to the 'leakers', as they often claim things that make zero logical sense.

Maybe it will, but it isn’t going to be $2100. Even 4K monitors with mini-LED and high refresh rates go for $3,000.
Not true if you count Chinese manufacturers in. They literally sell 4K 144Hz MiniLED HDR1000 monitors for less than $800, and they're of pretty good quality (but no match for Pro Display XDR of course).

I actually bought one of those. It performs really well in SDR mode, but its local dimming algorithms have bugs so HDR mode is not that good, but adequate for average consumers (and for the price tag).

I think a Studio Display Pro will be at least $1000 more. If they were able to make one for $500 more they'd just have made that the standard model.
