If they do another display with more features, I think it’ll be about $3000.

I say that because they usually price these things just a little bit more than a maxed out version just below it to entice you to upgrade

Hello people, should I buy the Apple Studio Display (ASD) now or wait for June to get the updated Studio Display Pro w/ Mini-led and Promotion according to this article.

The most conflicting thing is, if Apple does release a Mini led version of Studio Display at around $2000 $2300 then me buying an ASD right now would really makes me sad because it's just a difference of $700 and I plan to use this monitor for at least 7 years, but if it would be priced at $2500 then it wouldn't bother me at all.

I know, Apple is the most secretive company in the world, but some of you might have studied Apple for many years and what would you think about the pricing of new ASD w/ Mini-Led and Promotion and how much would it cost (ballpark, maybe)?
On the other hand Ming-Chi Kuo says no new mini-LED product this year - article.
So, according to you people what should I do?
Thanks.

There is no reason not to wait 2 months at this point to see what display, if any, are announced at WWDC. Nobody will know the true price of the Studio Display Pro until Apple announces it.

If it helps even if you order a studio display right now it won’t ship till June any way so you might as well wait at this point.

Also I’m guessing around a $3000 price and up.

Thinking about this some more, I actually do think it *might* make sense to have a miniLED Studio Display with ProMotion.

However, with the 'normal' Studio Display at $1600 means that any "better" screen would be $2500-3000 which is ridiculous. (But still short of the indefensible price of the trypophobic XDR, which then would look a little pathetic?)

The more I consider this "strategy" the more annoyed I am that they did this first before a bigger, better M1 iMac.

I think calling this a Studio Display *Pro* is misleading as it’s really a Pro Display XDR *mini* and will be priced accordingly.

To those of you doubting these rumors, in production supply chain leaks are very rarely wrong i.e. that screen is being made and the only question is where it will it end up…

Not true if you count Chinese manufacturers in. They literally sell 4K 144Hz MiniLED HDR1000 monitors for less than $800, and they're of pretty good quality (but no match for Pro Display XDR of course).

I actually bought one of those. It performs really well in SDR mode, but its local dimming algorithms have bugs so HDR mode is not that good, but adequate for average consumers (and for the price tag).
Which one? Thanks

We can almost never predict Apple marketing, but I think your perspective is close, I'm just not sure it's that different either way. It would be kind of annoying to have a mid-range screen that has many better specs than the much more expensive XDR other than size . . . It still doesn't make sense.

As for the supply chain, yes and no. The chain is good about knowing what display panels Apple is buying, but a lot less sure about what they're for. They thought the Studio Display was an 27" iMac! (which is understandable given the inclusion of a literal computer inside of it)
They could also be reverse wrong again and think that the Studio Display Pro is actually an iMac . . . except that Apple publicly said there is no new 27" iMac coming soon . . . . . . jerks.

How much do you think this panel will cost? Any guesses?

I think it will cost almost the same as the 32" Pro XDR if a 27" will come. Since the launch I was considering the ASD a lot, I really wanted Mini-led and ProMotion (if the price was $2500 or less). After a lot of thinking I made my decision yesterday and bought an ASD, it will arrive in 2 days. If I don't enjoy it I will return it. I think the ASD has a great panel, despite IPS LED, so why wait for Mini-led at probably a really expensive price tag. I don't see this to be cheaper than the Mini-LED Asus versions.

I was thinking a lot about the rumours and if I should wait, but I think we will not see a mini LED 27" version soon. It just doesn't make sense because of the new released ASD.. At least they should have announced it previous time. I think we will see a new 32" or more Mini LED version (an updated Pro XDR) in June or later. We will see what Apple wil do, who knows, I will regret it for sure if they release a 27" Mini-LED for $2500 or less. But in the end, I will enjoy my display for now.

its hard to guess which is miniLED and which is not. I do dark mode everything and for example opening YouTube at full brightness on the miniLED and the 27" they look the same. The dark/black areas look the same. some specific use cases will make the blacks pop and give colors more contrast but I think its only kinda visible in quality HDR videos. For general daily use, it would be harder to see a difference while looking at both panels. For this reason I wouldn't pay an additional $1000 for a miniLED 27" display. Im a display snob too. Sometimes I dont even like the miniLED because the white letters look too bight in dark mode and dark room and I have 20/20 vision.

I'm just happy this display finally exists and dont really care about "the future" tiny improvements I cant really see in real world use. If there really was a visible difference I would see it cause I use the 27 display and 16" miniLED at same time looking at both.

My predictions:
Studio Display: $1,599
Pro Display XDR 27” (5K, +miniLED, +ProMotion, no stand): $2,999
Pro Display XDR 36” (7K, +miniLED, +ProMotion, no stand): $4,999

I suppose that is the key question, will it come with a stand?
I think it would need to start at 2499?

But I'm still not convinced the Studio Pro or iMac Pro exist, who knows at this point.
Seeing the MBP display today with ProMotion just made me angry.
There is no desktop machine of any size or kind that is ProMotion, so I think this has to happen in some form.

If letters appear too bright, maybe you should turn the brightness down a bit? With my iPhone and MBP 14inch I can use the display at lower brightnesses because the screens have so much contrast. Gives me less eye strain and is actually one of the benefits of HDR-displays in my opinion.

I got my studio display today and to be honest it’s better than I expected. The brightness is great! Contrast is very good for an ips display, if I have my MacBook Pro 16” M1 Max next to it they look quite the same (except the blacks, but you can expect this). The blacks are still really good for an ips display, no bleeding at all when the entire screen is black. Build quality is really good, I am happy that I did not wait for a mini-LED version, it’s still a lot of money, a bit too much maybe for what it is and what I had hoped. If it was a bit cheaper I would buy 2 of them and I think Apple would sell a lot more. But in the end it’s a display that holds it value, is made from very good quality materials and has 5K which you cannot find in other displays on the market today.

So, a guy with nearly 100% accurate track record lying about the panel being in production and coming in June?
It’s amazing the lengths people will draw from a comment.

I simply think his information is inaccurate. If anything, I think it may be related to an iMac Pro.
