You will get hosed on that kind of trade in. The better option is to keep your iPad Pro and increase your iCloud storage to 200GB (if you don't have that already). Problem solved and you keep the better of the two iPads.
apple website quoted me 445 and I would put 300 I need to be able to store my apps and music that's why I need to upgrade.

Hello Im starting college this fall I have an iPad pro 2018 I want to trade it in and get the iPad air 2020 is it a good idea ?

I'm doing computer science
I don’t think so. I looked t new iPad Air when upgrading from a 10.5 and it was in some aspects. Downgrade. Decided to go with 2020 pro

Trying to see if it’s a good deal or get a 128 GB iPad pro
You’re gonna drop several hundreds of dollars for a downgrade, so that you can store more music on it?

No. It’s not a good idea. It’s a stupid one.

Are you trying to store more music from Apple Music, or from your own collection? If it’s the latter, buy a USB C/USB 3.1 dual thumb drive, like this:

I own it, and it works great.

And, just a little tip on online etiquette: when you ask for advice, and someone gives you advice, don’t argue back with them. “Gotcha, thanks for your input.” Then, if you have an additional question, ask it. But Mac Rumors forum members are not bots who’s job it is to advise you. They’re real people who took ten, fifteen minutes out of their saturday night to try to help you out. Always remember that.

I cheap out in 2018 and got 64GB I will look into that option of a thumb drive my warranty about to expire on this iPad

if that not an option I will sell it locally it’s selling for 600 and I put the rest for a brand new pro

That's assuming one cares about the iPad Pro features that are lacking from the Air 4.

Fast, cheap internet may not be always available. Personally, I'd take a 256GB Air 4 over 128GB Pro 11 at around the same price. Apps and DRM-ed content can't be stored on external storage. Honestly, only reason I buy iPad Pros is because of storage (2016 Pro for 256GB, 2017 Pro for 512GB and the upcoming 2021 Pro for 1TB).

Apart from usage/content limitations on external storage as well as potential corruption issues, I don't like having bulky items protruding from the charging port when I'm holding the device. Only way I'd consider using external storage with iPad is when low profile USB-C flash drives like the following become available.

Agree, I have learnt over time that cheaping out on storage is the worst decision, every time... I started with 16GB and now even 64 is limiting even for a secondary iPad...
I wouldn't get anything less than 256GB and I am so glad I could find the 1TB pro for a great price. iPad has too many issue with external storage, it almost destroyed the movie collection on my SSD.

Well the Ipad Air 4 256 GB version is £/$ 50 cheaper than the 128 Ipad Pro 2020, so you will get more storage which seems what you need the most. Just understand that the ipad air 4 is essentially a ipad pro 2018 without Promotion. Your a musician/ audio producer so i presume you will use proper headphones, so the Quad speakers wont be that important to you. But in all honesty i would recommend to keep your Ipad Pro like others have said and try and use external storage options if possible, like an external SSD.

it is 700 USD with discount free air pods when the promotion starts the pro is 749

So it sounds like the iPad Pro 2018 doesn't have enough storage for you. So the next thing you need to think about is: Does the iPad Air do everything you want it to do? If yes, then get the Air. If no, then buy a 2020 iPad Pro (or wait a few months an 2021 iPad Pro will be out). You'll be fine with whichever you choose.

I just read that your decision to upgrade is driven by storage, in that case you just have to decide on how much you need so its either a better screen and speakers which you may not notice (Pro) or double the storage (Air). It's not like either is a bad iPad. Luckily, both are the same size so if you already have a keyboard for your Pro it will work on the new ones.
