Agree with most ppl here that this doesn't make sense. Most ppl would agree the 2018 Pro is better than the 2020 Air, all-things-equal. The fact that you'd have to pay more money (given you'd have to sell your 2018 Pro on secondary market) to "downgrade" to the 2020 Air, makes less sense.

I agree 64GB is a low amount of storage, but I think what's making a lot of people confused is that the reason for your increased storage need is to store your music on the iPad. I have a huge high-res FLAC music collection (almost 2TB), stored on an external HD, which I use when I'm listening on my speaker setup / high-end headphone setup on my desk. I also have a Spotify subscription for listening on-the-go, with my AirPods Pro.

Someone asked this earlier, but what kind of music are you trying to store on your iPad? Maybe there's an alternative way for you to listen to music on your existing iPad so you don't spend more money for a "lesser device", and can wait until the refreshed Pros if you really want to upgrade?
1) Look into a Spotify or Apple Music subscription. For $10/month, you could fund 2.5 years of on-the-fly accessible music (with a library much larger than what you already have) for the ~$300'ish incremental you'd be spending to get the Air 4
2) External HD to store your digital music collection. Eventually you'll need to do this as your music collection grows. I would bite the bullet and do it now, and you can access it via your Mac or your iPad Pro when needed.

According to Alex, he wants to make a bad trade, just so he can use an Apple Pencil.
Actually, his comment on needing a pencil for notes was explaining why he needed an iPad (rather than a laptop) for his Computer Science class. His decision on downgrading was purely about storage and had nothing to do with the pencil since he already uses a pencil for notes with his current Pro11.

price of iPad dropped insane I’m just upgrading to the pro line before it goes less and I will loose money.

it’s simple to say sell now I can’t since I’m using the iPad for face time calls.

if I wait till March it won’t be 445 anymore

I have a 2018 iPad Pro but I must admit that I like the idea of the iPad Air. If I did not have the pro and I was looking for an iPad now, I would choose the Air 4 over the Pro for few reasons:

  1. I do not care about the speakers as I would rarely watch video on the iPad. I have my laptop and bigger monitor for that.
  2. I seriously do not see the ProMotion effect that much. I do not play games and I do not scroll endlessly to be impressed by this.
  3. I care about the 2nd generation pencil and that is something that Air 4 offers.
Now as a former Computer Science student (into the business now as luckily those years are behind me) I would invest more money in my laptop over the iPad to be honest. I do like the idea of having digital notes and I do it now for any course I do as part of my self learning program but honestly note taking apps do not take that much storage and do not need that much RAM.

Being able to use all the software I needed for my university degree though was important and for that I needed powerful laptop that allows me to install whatever I need (from IDE tools too SolidWorks to 3D Max Studio to Matlabs).

So in a nutshell if I were you I would invest in an iPad but as less as possible to have the storage and power I need for my laptop that I would use for whatever project in university.

The 2018 Pro uses the same pencil as the Air 4.

Yeah, I guess I was not clear enough. If I did not own iPP 2018, I would buy Air 4 over iPP. However now that I have iPP 2018, I don't see the point of changing.

getting engraved ipad is it worth it im getting the pro
No!!! It’ll hurt you in the long run when it comes to selling it, resale value will be garbage because of the engraving, don’t buy a iPad Pro now, NEW iPad Pros are being announced in March. WAITTTT!!!!

Most of the top leakers are saying iPad Pro event is locked in for March, new apple products don’t always go up in price, iPhone 11 was cheaper than the XR, some 12 pro models are cheaper this year compared to last year models.

I’d suggest waiting to see what apple offers hardware and price wise on the new pros before making a decision.

why not wait another week or 2. Even if you order then online and new ones drop in March at some point. you will still have a window to return the current one if you want the newer one

I’m looking to get the new iPad Pro that around right now I know the new one is around the corner.

but my issue is my current iPad Pro 11 2018 dropping in price from January it was at 600 and now it’s at 455 and then next month will be at 355 then I won’t be able to get an iPad I would be only be able to get the iPad Air 2020 and that’s not a feasible option.

do I traded it now we are apples trading for 455 and then order me the iPad Pro 2020 the base one and case close ?

will it drop less then 455 in the next month

i cant be without an iPad so I can’t sell it now and wait I need to do it all at once

is apple trade in good ?

Apple have a good return policy like I said above. Order online and trade your 11” for 455, in about 1- 2 weeks buying a 2020 Pro. you will then have 14 days to book a return and another 14 days to get it shipped. the new Pro should be released by that time giving you options of returning the 2020 if you want the 2021 Pro
