I doOh ok, well in this case I suggest you iCloud + or an external ssd… Since you aren’t always watching your photos… you might not need 512gb of base storage…
You have answer for everything lol

Ok so don’t forget MacBook Air are for people who does normal things like word documents, surfing on the web, video conferences, studying… Theses peoples doesn’t really need 512gb of storage… If you really need more than 256gb, you might upgrade to a MacBook Pro since you are doing pro tasks such as coding, video editing and things like that… And of course that’s why the pro has 512gb on the base model !

Then it depends on usage… For example Xcode might take some storage because of simulators but that’s it! I don’t know why someone would need more…
Another usage is a gamer… who likes MacBook Pro screen, performances… I think 512gb might be ok for him…
But for others, maybe they might need more (by the way, I am a Final Cut Pro user and I usually delete files from the library since I don’t need them anymore) So yeah I think 512gb is ok!
The MBA is thinner now than it was 17 years. In fact, even a Macbook Pro can fit in those envelopes now. Lots of laptops can.Can the MBA still fit in one of those large business envelopes with the tie-string-thingee?
For the first reply: I am not telling you how much you need but I tried to say why 256gb might be ok on the base model.Who are you to tell me what MBA is for and how much storage I need?
I like to have all my files on my laptop all the time without carrying around extra devices, so external storage (or iCloud) is not a solution.
You obviously have no idea how capable an MBA is, and based on your comments you bought an MBP just because it's a "Pro" machine, and now you're trying to justify it.
And the MacBook Air 15 inch? The MBA is thinner now than it was 17 years. In fact, even a Macbook Pro can fit in those envelopes now. Lots of laptops can.
Probably not. I don't think that those envelopes are that long or wide, but it's certainly thin enough. And the MacBook Air 15 inch?
Obviously the onboard storage met the needs of the friend. That your friend did not have backups is irrelevant to the amount of onboard storage.I remember a friend who everything was on his computer and the computer stopped to work! He lost everything!
That is hardly a reliable endorsement of the use of a specific machine or the capabilities of the machine. I did a lot of video editing on a M2 Air without difficulty. Certainly rendering is faster on a M4 Pro. That extra 3.73 seconds on a M2 Air is trivial. Those that do major, lengthy, productions, such as movie studios, are not going to be using any laptop for any major segment. They will have machines that cost enough to make your credit cards melt.ChatGPT agree with me about that
and ChatGPT agree with me about that!
Now you're just being contrary.Ok so don’t forget MacBook Air are for people who does normal things like word documents, surfing on the web, video conferences, studying… Theses peoples doesn’t really need 512gb of storage… If you really need more than 256gb, you might upgrade to a MacBook Pro since you are doing pro tasks such as coding, video editing and things like that… And of course that’s why the pro has 512gb on the base model !
I mean yes you can do many things on the air but people don’t have to expect this computer to be optimized for heavy tasks such as video editing who might need more storage!Obviously the onboard storage met the needs of the friend. The Air and the Pro are very capable machines. I own a Pro, upgraded from an Air. In many ways I regret the decision due to the lightness of the Air. I really don't find myself getting anymore work done on the Pro than I did on the Air. The primary advantage of the Pro, for me, is the slight larger screen. The 15" Air is just too big for my travel needs which also eliminates the 16" Pro.
Even if the air is capable, not everyone uses all the air performances… so 256gb is ok for them and people who needs more storage can choose 512gbNow you're just being contrary.
Airs these days are perfectly capable of performing real work, and some of us work in areas where the cloud is not an option. To get a comparable MBP is twice the price.
True, if a person was into heavy duty editing. I really don't think anyone expects the Air to be the "go to" machine for heavy video production.I mean yes you can do many things on the air but people don’t have to expect this computer to be optimized for heavy tasks such as video editing who might need more storage!
Yes that’s why 256 gb might be ok for base storage… In few years we might get more probably and it’s not bad… if someone wants 512gb well why not guys? The 512gb model also offers a 10 cores gpu and a double charger !True, if a person was into heavy duty editing. For most people the Air, especially the M2 and up, are quite capable machines. For the people truly into video production, or audio production, they would be purchasing much more of a machine the Air. The Pro would be their option, if they used a laptop. If I was doing heavy production I would have a desktop system, maxed out, with a couple of TB4 drives connected. A laptop would only be use for onsite or traveling work and I would only carry the files with me I need. I would not store my entire works catalog on a laptop, or even any internal drive on any current Mac.
Regardless, to each their own. It is their money and their way of working. If they find something that works, then be happy. Personally I would like a fully loaded M4 Pro 14" with as much memory, CPU, and storage as I could get. Not because I need it, but because I want it. But spousal considerations sometimes puts a stop to my wants.

For the second: Not everyone has everything on his laptop so cloud people might not need a lot of storage if everything is on cloud… +++ I remember a friend who everything was on his computer and the computer stopped to work! He lost everything!
For the third: I also have a m3 MacBook Air 15 inch at home which is okay for many task but I might not recommend it for video editors, music editors (like Logic Pro), coding… and ChatGPT agree with me about that! Ok you can do a little bit of theses on the MacBook Air but I think apple made the machine for that!
He knows now lol… and yes MacBook Air can run logic but if you are a bit limited on your computer (could be ram, storage or performances) well it’s normal.Tell your friend that he needs a backup for his files, regardless of how much storage he has on his computer.
As someone who runs large projects on Logic, I would never use a laptop as my main machine - only desktop, BUT to clarify, even MBA can run large projects with ease.
And I will not respond to your ChatGPT statement which is a joke.
