Clearly, the multiple colors available on the current MBA line are meant to fit more different styles and make more of a fashion statement than the monochrome wedge MBA. The slanted keyboard was also more comfortable to type on than my previous retina MBP 13, MBP 16, and current M4 Pro MBP 14. I had multiple sizes of Macbooks over the years and the wedge MBA is still my favorite design without anything to do with seeking attention.

The MBA wedge came in 3 colors, gold, space gray, and silver, the current M3 MBA comes in 4, silver, starlight, space gray, and midnight, if you want to claim a big deal on color cool. I dont. Over the 10 years of the wedge I owned 4, all 3 colors (not that it matters). 10 years is a long time for tech, it was time for it to go for an improved design. I appreciate good design based on intended use, and for me, the current design is easier to carry, pack, and is lighter. the previous poster said he liked it for how the wedge was different, shrugs, you claim the current design is plain and basic. Sure sound like we are debating form over function. But cool.

The MBA 15 display is still impressive in its own right. For non-miniLED, the image quality is still pretty fantastic compared to the competition. The MBA screen just falls short when you have it side-by-side with a MBP, but honestly in-store I couldn't tell much difference in image quality between MBA and MBP unless it was some HDR stuff.

My wife won't care about 120Hz nor nits. The MBA 15 screen is big and bright enough for her. We will see though what she ends up with in March, either M3/M4 MBA 15 or possibly M4 MBP 14. Still undecided.
Personally, inside my house, I don’t care about nits but you will see a big difference by using the macbooks OUTSIDE when it’s sunny!

I stand corrected and completely forgot the M1 MBA was available in other colors. I only remembered silver because I didn't choose the MBA for "fashion or attention" as suggested. The tapered form had practical functional aspects too with the more comfortable keyboard angle. I could've went with another MBP at the time but the M1 MBA was appealing because it ushered in a new era where a fanless and silent MBA could provide all the performance I needed. It was the combination of factors that made the M1 MBA so special and standout.

I've packed the wedge MBA on a few international trips and I find it hard to believe a laptop sleeve, bag, or backpack that fits the current MBA 13 wouldn't also fit the wedge MBA.

So, I didnt say you personally chose on fashion, but certainly others have stated that as the reason they prefer the wedge design. Nor did I say the wedge didn't fit into a backpack, I said I find the new design easier to pack with... it has a uniform thickness. Going to stand on that. I fly internationally and domestically three times a month. It makes a difference to me. And sure kudos to the M1 MBA wedge for being the first fanless design. That's why it deserves mention in history. The new design is fanless too. I owned four wedges over 10 years, don't find typing on the new design any harder. I prefer the trackpad of the new design. blah blah. The wedge was retired four years ago. If the new MBA M6 comes back in a wedge I will buy it, because it will still be a good tool. Just won't put it on a pedestal as the best design. In the end, I just use these things. Shrugs.

If anything, the 14” MBP M4 costs too much for what it is. However, if you find these differences useful to you, then you've made the right choice.
I agree but because I choose the educational price, it’s TOTALLY DIFFERENT! In my case in Canada, the MacBook Pro is only 100$ (CAD) more than the 15 inch MacBook Air with 512gb of storage (yes 512 since the pro has 512gb too) so for an extra 100 cad… the MacBook Pro is A MUCH BETTER CHOICE!

So much passion that goes round and round in circles.

The best choice is the one that you prefer.

That being said I think most people would benefit making a trip to BestBuy or Apple Store or wherever they buy a MacBook and use them in store. Test each model you are considering and don't consider cost unless you are on a really tight budget. However my advice for those on a really tight budget is to wait and save up until they can afford whatever model they prefer regardless of cost.

When people become too cost conscious they tend to make poor choices based on a perceived value or savings. It has been my experience over the years that buying what you want and saving up for that will make you much more happy over the life of ownership rather than settling for something less expensive and always having the question in the back of your mind as to what if I had, x, y, or z feature or latest m series chip just to save a few dollars on a device you will keep generally at least 3 years.

Go to a store and test each model you are interested in and uy what you honestly like and need the most.

For some the air models without a fan and lower weight offer more value than a bulkier and heavier device with fans. For others having the better screen, speakers and more ports are more important than portability. The thing a lot of people on here don't consider is weight and distribution of weight can make a much bigger difference than specs will tell for some people. That extra lightness and no need to worry about blocking vents can be a very liberating feeling while still providing excellent performance for 80-90% of users. Screens on all MacBooks no matter the model on current line up are excellent. So it really comes down to how you use your Mac and what you prefer. Everything else is just noise.

I have a 2tb ssd
I have 8 now. I don't want one hanging off the side of my Air on a dongle all the time.

Apple's base storage offerings these days are totally inadequate, and frankly kind of insulting. Of course then they get to charge you ridiculous amounts to upgrade knowing you pretty much have to if you do any kind of serious work.

Before upgrading to the MacBook Pro, I was thinking ok it has a better screen but after I have use it for few days… I realized it’s much better!

Ok so don’t forget MacBook Air are for people who does normal things like word documents, surfing on the web, video conferences, studying… Theses peoples doesn’t really need 512gb of storage… If you really need more than 256gb, you might upgrade to a MacBook Pro since you are doing pro tasks such as coding, video editing and things like that… And of course that’s why the pro has 512gb on the base model !

I don't think that how much storage one uses is necessarily indicative of if they use their laptop for professional work. These days anyone can have a very large media library. That's why even the Air goes up to 2TB of storage.

Oh ok, well in this case I suggest you iCloud + or an external ssd… Since you aren’t always watching your photos… you might not need 512gb of base storage…

Then it depends on usage… For example Xcode might take some storage because of simulators but that’s it! I don’t know why someone would need more…

Another usage is a gamer… who likes MacBook Pro screen, performances… I think 512gb might be ok for him…

But for others, maybe they might need more (by the way, I am a Final Cut Pro user and I usually delete files from the library since I don’t need them anymore) So yeah I think 512gb is ok!

Can the MBA still fit in one of those large business envelopes with the tie-string-thingee?
