thanks MisterAndrew, had hope that the bios mod may also work on a RX 480 (as i have no clue about bios mods past the real basics) shame.

in the UK vaga 56 on ebay is only £10 more than a RX 580 8gb pulse new on amazon but a GTX1070 on ebay uk is cheaper than both while a RX480 is close to £120 used (which is why im just confused at what to do)

If just £10 difference, go for the Vega 56 make much more sense regardless what's the "recommended" GPU.

Damn, just installed Mojave (no longer beta) and the framebuffer problem with my Nitro+ persists...

Guess I'll have to find me a Windows PC and start following the excellent guide on page 1 :(

A lot of this goes right over my head, but bottom line, will this give you boot screens or just get the card recognised and working?
Hi Lucas... I'm in the same boat here... this is all way over my head also. I have a 27" Apple LED Cinema Display that has been giving me problems... so not sure if it's my current video card (ATI Radeon HD 5870 1024 MB) or some defect with my screen... but as my current card isn't macOS Mojave compatible I decided to purchase that to see if that would clear the issue up... my screen keeps going black/blank on my intermittently for the past 1-2 years... and it's driving me crazy... want it resolved.... if this new card won't fix it... I will buy a new 4K screen... but I need this new card to work with macOS Mojave... it's supported on the official Apple website... all this stuff is all new to me... and to be honest... I won't be able to work it out.

How will I know I have a proper working Sapphire RX580 Pulse 8GB Card...? That will work out of the box? The most I have ever done is upgraded the RAM... this stuff is complete gobbeldy gook to me... :(

As per post #1, just check the part number on your RX 580 to see if it is part # 113-4E353BU-O4E. If it isn't you will have to mod the firmware. The instructions in post #1 are excellent.

As far as I know, there's no way to tell which part you will get just from looking at a sealed box. You need to plug it in to a computer to find out.

Cheers Pastry Chef... greetings from Ireland... and thank you for that info.... sounds like this could go one of two ways... very smooth, no hitches or a total nightmare and waste of money as I really wouldn't have a clue how to mod that card... excellent instructions and all as they are... very complex for a "old foogie" like me!! :)

The instructions may look a bit daunting but they are not as difficult as it may seem. Plus, there are plenty of very friendly and helpful members here who can help if you get stuck.

It's only cosmetical. I have no problems with my 'new' Sapphire RX 580 8GB, even sleep works.
Hi Synchro3... and greetings from Ireland... did you just install your new Sapphire RX 580 8GB out if the box, and upgraded to macOS Mojave.... no issues... or did you also have this problem with tr=he Product Part Number issue..?

My Sapphire RX 580 8GB will be here Friday and I was hoping to upgrade, but thinking I might hold off until the first macOS Mojave update has come out and see if that fixes these issues... I was hoping for just a plug 'n' play type solution... with minimum know how skills required :(

Please advise and revert if you get an opportunity... :)

Regards,
Anthony

if it helps im using osx10.13.6 and having no problems with the RX580, im waiting for the first few patches before moving to osx10.14 to let the bugs worked out.
it even worked for osx10.12 for me, seems to be working better on osx10.13.6.

if you need to flash it's not hard, i did it first go but it may also just work.
I had to flash as my card was used and had be altered to mine bitcoin or something of the like, vary easy to flash.

If you're on 10.13.6 you can try the card, fairly painless. Besides, if there's a problem with the framebuffer (poor DP and HDMI outputs) you'll know for certain.

The next update of Mojave will only help if Apple decides to use the model number instead of the part number of the graphics card.

Plenty of people here who can edit the rom for you... You just have to take care of dumping the rom and flashing the edited one. (on a Windows PC)

Hi again Orph....

I think I will update to my new Sapphire Pulse RX580 with High Sierra 10.13.6 and see if that fixes my monitor issue... if it does I will wait for a few updates before going to macOS Mojave. Wait for the forums to be a little more favourable to the compatibility of the Sapphire Pulse RX580 video card.... maybe even chat with Apple direct about the possible issues with moving with that card to Mojave as they do say they support it.

The whole "Flashing the Card" just seems very scary to me... upgrading the RAM in my computer was the most difficult upgrade I have ever taken on.... all this seems very beyond my capabilities and understanding :(

Again... thanks for your sensible advice.

Hi there OneyedK

Thank you also for your advice and assistance.

I will stick with High Sierra to get the new card working.... how will I know if it's a problematic card with macOS Mojave... will there be give away signs if I try and upgrade to macOS Mojave... will the installer refuse to upgrade ?

The "Flashing the Card" sounds all very complicated to me... and I could end up causing myself more issues.... I have a busy workflow and I can't really afford any downtime.

if this fixes the intermittent (blackout out) problems I have been having with my Apple 27" LED Cinema Dsiplay, I will be happy with that.

Thank again for you help and advice and greetings from Ireland. I'm a big Belgian Beer lover... and would love to visit you country one day... maybe for Tomorrowland... best of both worlds... great underground music (not that main stage EDM crappo) and beers... :)

The RX580 behaves axactly the same in High Sierra as in Mojave. Installing Mojave is not a problem.
The loading of the incorrect framebuffer will show as discoloration on the edges of white letters on a black background (very visible and annoying in everything of the Adobe suite) only on the displayport and the hdmi outputs...

And yes, Belgian beer is great, but with an upset stomach, nothing beats a pint of Guiness!
Greetings from Belgium ;)

Thanks, OneyedK... you have explained the situation very clearly for me. I just have to hope so that the RX580 Pulse card that I do get will be the correct one and the Framebuffer will be correct..... and I suppose I will only find this out after install it... :)

It might sound strange, but I'm not a Guinness fan at all... my fav drinks are Leffe, La Chouffe & Kwak... :)

Every boxed Sapphire card has a label that states the product number. But trying the card in High Sierra won't hurt anything and it's easy to revert back to your old card.

Give Duvel a try : http://www.duvel.com/en-gb

Only the middle 5 digits are printed on the box (e.g. PN 299-xxxxx-000SA), which means the ROM part number could be something like 113-xxxxx0U-O49.

May be it's possible to decode the ROM's part number via the sticker, but sure it's not pure direct matching.

OOoooppppsss... forgot about Duvel.... love that too... but it's a little too strong... and blows the head off me... I'm an OLD TIMER!! lol

I'm going to go with your suggestions for sure OneyedK, and see how the new card performs in High Sierra... if no obvious issues using Adobe Creative Cloud CC apps... with the defects you highlighted.... you reckon I would be OK then in macOS Mojave...?

Will, there be another way I will know I have a card I need to "Flash", in the About This Mac... would some info there highlight it's the wrong card..?

Cheers again for all your valuable info and assistance... :)

I had hoped this video card upgrade with me nice and simple, but looked like that may not be the case. Nothing worth having in life is easy... as they say. Greetings from Ireland and again, thanks for all your info and for highlighting this issue to the MacPro Community... :)

Don't worry too much about this part number / framebuffer stuff. Any Sapphire PULSE RX580 8GB should be plug and play regardless part number in High Sierra / Mojave.

I hear you h9826790.... but there are reports that with the incorrect card.... "The loading of the incorrect framebuffer will show as discolouration on the edges of white letters on a black background (very visible and annoying in everything of the Adobe suite) but only on the display port and the hdmi outputs..."

The display port is the port I will be using to run my Apple 27" LED Cinema Display (using a DisplayPort Male to Mini DisplayPort Female 4K 60Hz Adapter, Benfei Dp Male to Mini Dp Female Converter - 6 Inches cable).

The Orinoco framebuffer is the correct one...

I have to admit, the incorrect framebuffer was a problem with my Nitro+ card, maybe it's not a problem with a regular Pulse card. I don't know, you'll know when you receive the card and test it in High Sierra, it behaves the same in both operating systems...
