I upgraded my 2019 MacBook Pro to 10.15.4 Tuesday afternoon, and yesterday morning after working for awhile, I did the lock screen, and closed the lid - no hibernation or anything. I came back, and it restarted with a crash in Adobe Creative Cloud. That's crash 1 below. Since I don't use Adobe CC much, I actually uninstalled it, and considered it an app bug.

About an hour ago today however, I left my laptop, and it turns the display off after 15 minutes; no hibernate or other energy options. I came back, and it restarted again! Second crash with a restart in 2 days, on a laptop that NEVER crashes - not had one in 6 months (I watch for them in the log).

I am guessing this is not app related, as I have crashes in two places in 2 days. The second is "WindowServer", which I read is the process responsible for the graphics in MacOS.

Are others seeing crashes with 10.15.4?

I've had a similar issue. While I'm actively using my 2019 MBP everything appears fine. However, after stepping away I come back to my laptop powered off. When I power it up via the power button, a dialog box appears stating that it rebooted due to an error. I've had other odd issues too. They very well may be unrelated, but I was trying to update a Photos library and it failed and ended up somehow erasing the container on the drive. I tried repairing the drive to no avail. Fortunately it's an old external drive, so I can mess with it later, but it's still a huge pain.

I was happier with my 2018 mini on 10.15.2

10.15.4 is worse in terms of EGPU quirks.

Very disappointed in Apple

10.15.4 is generally fine and there does not seem wide spread issues with it. Mine and many others are working better than 10.15.3. With every upgrade there are occasional problems on some machines. Some are upgrade related (failed upgrade). And some are hardware issues coincidental to upgrade - or simply happen randomly but are associated with recent upgrade. We are sorry you have problems, but let's keep it in perspective.
First thing to try is to assume it was failed upgrade. Just download standard full Installer from App store and upgrade in place. It will not remove/change your applications/data, but reinstall system and setup all services again. Works lots of times, is non destructive and relatively fast. Make sure you have backup before, just in case.
Second is possible hardware failure. Upgrade strains disk and memory more then regular use. Hardware issues are more likely to pop up after upgrade. Happened to me also. Turns out it was disk, which failed.
OPs problem looks like memory failing. Can happen any time...
And just stop this "this XYZ version is bad upgrade" crazy talk. Like we really need than nonsense now...
If you would search back in here, you would find same/similar message about EVERY version of macOS ever released from someone doing "service" to community.

Ok. I’ll download the installer. I have never had an issue with an upgrade before. I doubt it’s hardware. My MacBook Pro is 6 months old. I’ll post the results on this thread. Thanks.

Most of your remarks are right on the money. But one thing that really annoys me is not being able to download the FULL INSTALLER from the App Store. This has been going on ever since Catalina was released. Myself I did not "move from" Mojave until all my third party applications were compatible with Catalina. Due to that, the last of such apps, Tech Tool Pro, finally released a Catalina-compatible version after OS 10.15.3 was released.

Now, I never just upgrade "in place" whenever I move from the prior version (different one) of the Mac OS. So, I wanted to download the full installer for OS 10.15.3 from the App Store. It was a no go! No matter how many times I tried, kept getting the message "Not available"! That had NEVER happened to me before. So, I used doddude1's patcher to get that full version, did the clean install, and then a migration of needed files, folders, apps, settings, etc. from a just completed SuperDuper! backup. All fo that went well, and I have had no (real significant) issues ever since.

But, when OS 10.15.4 was recently released, once again I could not download the full installer from the App Store. Just so, so frustrating. I subsequently used the OS 10.15.4 Combo Updater, and it worked like a charm.

If there is a last version of Catalina, I will want to do a clean, fresh installation of it. But I suspect I'll run into the same App store frustration. And given Apple's attitude, I am anticipating the same issue when the next Mac OS comes out, and will want to move from Catalina to that new OS. As has been my experience, once again that will most likely be with the third version of that new OS, given that Tech Tool Pro will again not have a compatible version ready until that time. But that's OK, as 1) typically too many bugs in the first couple of releases, and 2) typically nothing earth shattering in the new OS that would compel me to upgrade right away. But not being able to download that full installer for OS 10.16.3 will be frustrating!

I am the OP, I did a power off/restart, whether that helped or it was just an anomaly, no crashes for over 3 days now. Fingers crossed!

I spoke too soon! Just got a panic in WindowServer, I was working on the laptop, walked away from my desk for about 2 minutes, came back and it was all frozen. I just let it sit there, it eventually shut down. I powered it up, and it reported this (I have more of it if anyone is curious):

panic(cpu 2 caller 0xffffff7f94da0ad5): userspace watchdog timeout: no successful checkins from com.apple.WindowServer in 120 seconds
service: com.apple.logd, total successful checkins since wake (2260 seconds ago): 227, last successful checkin: 0 seconds ago
service: com.apple.WindowServer, total successful checkins since wake (2260 seconds ago): 215, last successful checkin: 120 seconds ago

I did some looking around, I have seen 4 "Spin Reports in the last few days on WindowServer - and none on anything else. What are they, is it relevant?

So far, things are good after upgrading via the OS 10.15.4 Combo Updater. I still, though, have the "infrequent" issue on my late 2018 Mac Mini (but not on my MacBook Air) with the "phantom" launching of either Brave or Thunderbird at start up. Again, does not happen much, but somewhat annoying. And can't pin down why it only happens on the Mini.

all good here on a 2017 MacBook Pro 13".

although I haven't done much since the update. I've watched YouTube and did some design in gimp... and talked on discord. that's pretty much it.

I have a 16" MPB and experiencing crashes nearly every night since upgrading to 10.15.4. When I open my laptop in the morning it boots as if I turned the computer completely off when I closed it the night before. I can't leave anything processing overnight because it might crash and lose work. Super annoying.

10.15.3 killed the camera on my mid-2014 Retina MacBook Pro, which was rather inconvenient for videoconferencing. 10.15.4 fixed the issue. I have not had any crashes like others described above (knock wood).

my 16' has had 4 crashes as well since updating. I'm attaching one of the logs, but also seem to notice the crashes only when using the Drift screen saver. I changed it off this and haven't crashed since. Might be just a coincidence, but anyone else use drift and get the crashes? Log:

Just did a reinstall. See if it makes a diff.
Sadly no, the issue is related to 10.15.4 (and 2020-002 security updates for 10.14/13 as well) itself. It manifests itself mostly when video camera is on, sometimes the computer can crash from watching YouTube alone (GPU Hardware Acceleration?)
And lastly, this issue mostly affects 5th gen Intel CPU Macs, which were 2015-batch machines.

Check the thread, there are numerous 16" 2019 MacBook Pro's, an iMac, a 2017 MacBook Pro , a 2018 MacBook Pro .....I think this is not correct at all.

I am also seeing some odd issues - my iMac is a 2019 5K and after installing 10.15.4 I have been having odd behaviour.
When logging out then back in again sometimes none of my drives are listed on the desktop. Remains blank. Menu along the top is there and dock but no desktop icons. Spinning wheel when I move over to the apple icon area.
No way to reboot/just have to power it off then all the drives reappear as before.

I had some issues when it installed the update, 10.15.3 - 10.15.4. Update hung after it downloaded. Had to use the "CMD/Opt/P/R/ keys numerous times to get it to finish.
Once installed had reports of low level drivers not supported. Avast, WACOM tablet driver and little snitch.

Not sure where this is going - but I uninstalled the 3 applications but still have this odd behaviour.

Dan

Can you try applying the 10.15.4 combo update and see if it helps: https://support.apple.com/kb/DL2037?locale=en_US
