I found myself experiencing many of the problems mentioned in this thread on a new Macbook Pro 16" with OS-X 10.15.4. Symptoms included freezes when multiple browser windows were open (Safari or Chrome), browsers failing to load any website (a restart would correct it, temporarily), system not waking from sleep, TouchID bombing out every day and requiring re-recording fingerprints, etc. These incidents were happening several times a day.

On the Apple forums I saw someone recommend removing Avast antiviral (which I was thinking of doing anyway; something I don't quite trust about that company, and its recent, frequent popups suggesting I upgrade were system-level adware). So I uninstalled Avast, temporarily turned off SIP and removed the last remnants of that program (do a Spotlight search for "Avast" to find them), and re-enabled SIP.

In the three days since, every problem has completely disappeared. No more crashes, no more problems with TouchID, and so on. I'm comfortable with this solution, both because of Catalina's tighter security and because I have a healthy paranoia about opening weird email attachments, even if the sender is apparently a friend, or following links in emails.

I have noticed frequent crash reports for Lastpass in the DiagnosticReports folder, and have reported that to Lastpass. Their developers are looking at it, although those crashes do not appear to be affecting system performance. I may switch to 1Password or Apple's own iCloud keychain.

If you're running Avast, or any other malware screen, try turning that off to see if it addresses the problem.

1) If you want to reinstall MacOS you dont need to download anything. See https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204904 .
If you want to install the same version you are on right now again boot the Mac while holding cmd+r.
If you want to (re)install the newest version boot with opt+cmd+r.
Then press "reinstall MacOS" and follow the next steps. 20-30 minutes later you should be able to use your Mac again.

Is there a specific reason you guys want to download the whole OS for installation?

You can use https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201260 to select the OS version (not the specific .X update just the Big Upgrades) you want to download. I think in the step 3 or 4 of the linked Articles there is a link to download the OS.

2) I can guarantee you that most of the time if you have an issue after an update, its an error during the download or installation of the update. There are millions of people with Macs so if it was actually an issue with the intended update, the world would be on fire... or at least Apple Tech Support lines.

So like mentioned before: Errors happen and sometimes they are annoying as hell, but not an issue with a whole update.

Ive seen it often enough that updates make a Mac not boot anymore, so to be on the safe side - especially if you depend on the Data on your Mac - Backup your device with Time Machine or give our Corporate Overloards 1-3€/$/£ a month for some Cloud storage and sage your data there.

I've already been to the Genius Bar and have been told there is a problem and to wait for a fix. Meantime fiddle with Energy Saver settings, turn off "Automatic Graphics Switching", which does seem to crash less. Yet there has been no official acknowledgement from Apple, or timeline for fix. A big scandal ! I have a new MBP 16" 2019 purchased in April 2020.

Hi, just purchased a brand new 13” MBP 16gb, i7. One week old. I’m a graphic designer so I have the CC subscription. About every hour the computer crashes seems to be only while the CC App is on. Did a reinstall of the OS and it still does it. Hopefully there’ll be a fix.

Open the Console app and look at the crash report to see the exact reason for the crash.

Absolute joke Apple hasn't fixed this yet. It's pretty serious.
In the many logs posted by those who had this problem (shamefully still present), I noticed that all the kext listed contained at least one application that was not from the AppStore... Am I wrong?

^^^^His point appears to be - Only use Apple applications or those from the AppStore. Sort of Silly IMHO

This problem occurs directly after a fresh install. Has absolutely nothing to do with external software.

I've posted this elsewhere. I'm on a 2019 NcMP and I had been experiencing one or two panics a day since I updated to an RX5700XT last year. Last month I replaced it with an RX6800. Since the last GPU change (a month now) I have had no panics. I'v postulated before that IMHO, Apple's 5700 drivers might have a problem❓
