Started crashing again, in sleep, overnight ... last two nights. Razer Core X eGPU attached (5700XT) as well as a CalDigit TS3+ dock. I've tried the Combo updater, SMC reset (both methods), and NVRAM reset. 16" MBP.

have you tried booting into safe mode and see if the crashes happen?

After 10 days since doing an SMC reset I got a crash, a panic actually. Same one. It also has 2 spin reports from WindowServer.

I’ve been seeing similar crashes on a 2018 Mini.

It didn’t help that I added some hardware (Akitio tb3 drive enclosure) (and installed zfs) around the time it started.

High load seems to be involved for mine most of the time, but I’ve also come into the office to find the machine off and upon login it tells me it restarted because of a problem (and presumably then shutdown after X minutes of no login).

I’ll try the combo updater in the morning and report back with any progress.

There is a supplemental update out today. After this meeting im in I'll give it a shot. Doesn't mention this issue but hopefully they pushed the fix under the table

People are reporting that the supplemental update did not resolve the crashes. Some are reporting that the supplemental starting introducing crashes for them that did not happen before.

I have a two-week-old MBP 16" that started crashing like this the day I opened it up and set up the laptop. I've been through two weeks-worth of research and fixes (PRAM resets, SMC resets, etc.) and the one thing that's worked for me: putting the machine through a MacOS recovery. It's been about five days now, and it hasn't crashed since.

I was worried that I might lose all my files and applications by doing this, but everything (all my files, settings, applications, etc.) were right where I left them. Might be worth a shot.
So, it's been six days since the MacOS recovery...and my MBP 16" just kernel panicked again. The MacOS recovery didn't fix things after all.

Hopefully this truly is a 10.15.4 bug, and I don't have to return the machine.

I think I know the cause of this issue.

It only happens when my MBP is not on my desk and it's purely a MacOS issue since it hasn't occurred on Windows via BootCamp yet.

So what's different when MBP is on my desk? I have my ethernet plugged in via Thunderbolt. When nothing is plugged into the Thunderbolt it has the shutdowns.

I had crashes on a 2018 mini with Ethernet plugged in (and wifi disconnected but not turned off) the whole time.

I’ve disabled “app nap” and “put disks to sleep” and have so far had no recurrences.

I’ve been having crashes with 10.15.4. Lots of people have. It’s the software.

Same issue on 2017 iMac Pro. Paid $5k to enjoy Mojave, only to upgrade to Catalina for daily - weekly crashes. Extreme nightmare on a business production machine like mine.

I've tried updating to the latest OS, unplugging external monitors, buying brand new Belkin USB-C to HDMI cables, updated using latest combo fixes. Next I will try reinstalling macOS 10.15.4 and will report back.

Just bought a 2019 5K iMac, it's on 10.15.1....and its staying there! I may apply combo update 10.15.3, definitely staying away from 10.15.4.....

I am tracking this issue.

@wgr73
You are the only report of reverting back. Are you saying 10.15.1 does NOT have the issue ?

Sorry, I meant I bought a NEW iMac that has 10.15.1, didn't revert back. But I spoke too soon. The iMac did have the issue so I updated that to 10.15.4. Odd thing is this one hasn't done it since the update to 10.15.4! But did it on 10.15.1.....I'm confused. The MBP does this 2-4x a day

I get the same kernel panic shutdown and restart message: "WindowServer....."
What has windows (PC) have anything to do with a Mac OS ?
I don't run virtual or parallel windows on my Mac....

The WindowServer process handles graphics and display related activities in MacOS. Nothing to do with Windows for the PC.

I started having Finder, Activity Monitor, and Safari crashes for the last few days after the supplemental update. So frustrating for sure!

I tried PRAM reset and SMC reset last week after it started. Didn't really help. Crashes/freezing starting happen more frequently yesterday. I even started having issues trying to reboot when all the icons and menu bar disappeared, but then Finder froze. No way to shut down- except forced power down by holding power button down.

After doing some research- limited info out there- but someone suggested booting into Recovery mode (power down, power on and hold Command + R keys at the same time. You might have to enter T2 firmware password.

Then selected Disk Utility. I ran First Aid on the 3 partitions MacOS, MacOS data + Mac boot (don't recall the exact wording).

After Disk Utility corrected a lot of data mis-matches on my MacOS data partitiion from my 16 Time Machine snapshots and found the other partitions ok, exit and restarted.

Fingers crossed- 10.15.4 on my 2018 MBP 15" i9 2.9 seems happy again (knock on wood)- although only .

Apple Sucks! Their software, especially MacOS, used to be their Crown Jewels. Now, other OS’s are looking better and better.

I've been having issues with 10.15.4 too, a couple of crashes but most importantly the Macbook Pro 16" not recognising it's connected to power.

After Apple Support sent a new charger (that didn't fix it), I found out that the macbook can only charge when I swap the ends of the USB-C cable: the end that was in the charger to go into the macbook and vice-versa. This is replicable with all 4 ports, it's a really odd behaviour.

I had a similar issue on 10.15.1 but it resolved itself after a software update (unsure if back then the swapping of the cable would have helped). Now, every time I disconnect it from the outlet, I need to flip the USB-C cable when I want to charge it again. As it happens on all 4 ports it's very unlikely for it to be a hardware issue: the ports have different chips managing each pair, so both should have gotten fried at the same time. Not impossible, but definitely unlikely...

Sounds like it could be a cable issue. Have you tried another USB-C cable?

Thanks for your advice! Apple Support shipped a new USB-C cable and this time they sent a thunderbolt USB-C one (0.8m, really short). The cable appears to be working fine, however I honestly can't say for sure it's the USB-C as you suggest because I've see at least other 2 users having the same issue since 10.15.4 and solving it by swapping the USB-C ends every time they want to charge the macbook. A Thunderbolt cable is quite different from a USB-C one, as the Thunderbolt also contain a small chip (a controller) on both ends. Hence why I wouldn't feel comfortable saying it was definitely the cable until I can test it with another "simple" USB-C one! :)

This fix from outluch.wixsite.com seemingly resolved my issue. No crashes since applying this fix. Will post an update if it happens again.

Edit: I am using a Belkin Thunderbolt 3 dock which has an ethernet port. I believe that was causing the crash. Reinstalling macOS did not resolve the issue.

Restart issue happened again about 12 hours ago without any crash / spin report in Console.

Appears it's a 2-part issue on my side. Latest kernel panic in Console > Log Reports shows "Bridge OS 4.4" crashing. I have Parallels Desktop installed and see other users reporting a similar KP. Followed some suggestions from Parallels and will report back.
