Snow squall warning in New York right now. It's about 30 here but it should be 30 degrees colder in a few hours.

Thanks for posting.

Of course I missed seeing that, but boy did I feel that wind chill last night walking home from the bus stop.

Not walking today or tonight. Not a fan of the subway system, but glad it exists on days like this.

Not as windy this morning, but very cold. Already at work, because I just couldn’t deal with more train delays.

Stay warm and safe everyone!

So, after 2 days of sub-zero weather we got snow last night. What a mess! My son had an absolutely hellish drive to the university only to have his class cancelled. Now he's on his way back, (no doubt an equally hellish return trip). The highways departments really dropped the ball this time.

Torrential rain, flood warnings, violent winds and thunder due. And here I was complaining about the sudden uptick into the low 80s not long ago. On the other hand, our lawn will look incredible. I'm glad I chose to skip fertilizing the trees and plants that warm week. Also skipped pruning because I had no protective goop on hand to cover the cuts.

We had a little snow on Thursday and Friday despite our Met Office putting fear into everybody that it was going to be the worst snow in years lol.

We had about 2 inches in the end lol.

I haven't seen the sun in over a week. OTOH, I'm sure the score of English expats in the state are cursing up a storm.

Ahhh, finally snow is melting here. Didn't look that way yesterday when it was snowing.
But it's fairly mild now, around 0˚C now, give and take.
So spring you can take your baby steps now, I'll be dancing a spring dance to help it out :D

This roller coaster weather...

First I was concerned about sheet ice in the driveway when it had warmed up from below zero to 40º for two days and then froze again. Now it's been 50º for two days and I'm looking at a few two-inch-deep lakes out there since the deeper ground is still frozen Counting down to another freeze cycle we're already heading into from current 45º mark... supposed to be 28º by 5pm, 11º by morning.

So far I can still shortcut across the front lawn on foot through a few remaining five inches of snow to get to the roadside mailbox. Once those driveways freeze up tonight though, I'm icebound until some snow falls and settles in to make a nice crunchy surface again. This will be a stretch of days I figure that whatever's in my mailbox can rot there until April.

Among blessings I count at the moment are the internet and online bill-pay. :D

This is exactly what I do not miss about living in upstate NY (or Ohio)! Your roller coaster is dangerous. Ours is merely frustrating.

Yah I (re-)learned to keep a deep pantry including items I'd not normally consider good fare... but useful as substitute ingredients when the ice monster rules... canned spinach, canned mushrooms, self-stable tofu, dehydrated broccoli and other camp foods etc. Some herbs and a little oil and vinegar, spicy condiments etc can mask a lot of flaws.

When I first got this place and was living up here just on weekends, I was out of practice on pantry maintenance, having spent so much time in NYC and being a typical New Yorker, i.e. assuming eternal presence of always-open nearby food vendors and produce markets. First February thaw/freeze cycle certainly cured me of insouciance about what was in the cupboard. I was even melting snow and boiling it for water since a village main blew out during the thaw cycle.... didn't even have a few gallons bottled H2O.

For times like that, I have over the boots ice cleats. They are easy to put on, work well, and are inexpensive.
