deany, it was the graphics card mainly that made me cancel. Wasn't convinced it was the right way to go for me.

Been looking at purchasing a 21.5 4K iMac to replace my 6 year old MacBook Pro (the 27 iMac is just too big for my desk). Can't afford to max out the configuration so need help deciding what options to upgrade. I no longer store music on my MacBook Pro as I use iTunes Match and Spotify streaming. I have a photo library of over 10,000 photos although I now use iCloud Photo Library so unsure if the originals are still stored taking up space or are fully in the cloud. I do some light photo editing though I find my MacBook Pro too slow for this now and I would like to possibly edit some 4K videos taken on my 6S.

To cut a long story short which options would you guys upgrade to? My current thought is to leave the processor at 3.1, possibly upgrade the ram to 16gb and then go for 1tb or 2tb fusion drive. 256gb of flash storage doesn't seem enough and the 512gb flash is just too much extra money on top.

You and me the only ones who like the 4K 21.5'' for same reason.

I personally would go for 16 GB of RAM as the RAM is not upgradable, its soldered into the motherboard.

The SSD part of the fusion drive is only 24 GB on the 1 TB so I wouldn't consider that.

I am bias towards SSD so would spend the extra £160 more on the 512 SSD v 2 TB FD.

I would then in the future invest in a USB 3 enclosure and a Samsung 2.5 EVO SSD drive maybe 1TB when prices come down....

based on the graph for the 250 GB EVO-

the 1 TB EVO should be a _lot_ cheaper next year. (its £259.99 at present) <£150 would be nice!

Please note this is just my opinion! hope it helps

That's been a great help Deany. 16gb ram is a no brainer and I do agree on the SSD option. Probably going to wait until the new year anyway to see if I get a work bonus.

Shipped a few hows ago, but UPS tracking number still not working.

Serial number shows assembled in Ireland so assume it's coming from there.

Apple site says estimated delivery 21st, which if true seems poor. Cork, Ireland to London takes four days?!

thats about right when we got our imacs, I think they come via Holyhead (ferry) they won't count tomorrow being a Sunday and Ireland (although some people will have to work tomorrow). Lovely people the Irish.
ps
of course the A5 was built - Holyhead to Marble Arch just for this reason (to link London with Ireland) but no stage coach any more......sadly......you will have to rely on the UPS truck, far less glamorous!

Looks like there will be plenty of 21.5'' 4K left. I really thought these would sell well.
Quite surprised if this thread is any indication of % sales
i.e. 100% verses zero!.....who will be the first?
