Hmm ... general email passwords (for standard IMAP accounts set up in Apple Mail) should be part of the backup. it's only when using third party apps which have a "device specific password" that need to be set up again.

Oh, and about banking apps ... I guess it depends on the app. Some of mine seem to need me to use my password to log in each time I add/edit/delete a finger print (I use touch-id as my phone doesn't support face-id). So I assume moving to a new phone triggers this too.
First Direct’s app definitely needs re authenticating, you have to ring them.

Yeah! There is no way most of us could resist the 2020 iphone - if it it just comes in a new form factor with 5G....

I'm hoping that's the case. A new form factor and a 5G chip would be awesome and worthy of the upgrade. Hopefully by then the networks will have 5G as a rollout across almost the whole UK.

For anyone who is undecided on an upgrade from last year’s phone, think about your photo albums.

You’ll want to look back at all of your photo memories in 5 years time knowing that you had the best possible phone camera at the time.

My wife and I have the OG versions from when it was a one-off App Store purchase.

Worth moving to a subscription do you think?

It's always the dilemma isn't it? I've bought licences for things like 1Password and MacCleaner etc, as I prefer to minimise the number of things I have on-the-drip (same as outright purchase vs IUP etc) but then there's a new version needed to be compatible with a new OS etc ...

I work for a software company though, so fully appreciate that these guys need to make a living & recoup their investment in keeping things updated. 1Password do seem to be on the front foot though, their updates & communications are spot on & I'm a big fan.

So Apple Chat person is suggesting that they check there are funds available by doing a pre authorisation even though it is a reservation for IUP. Then they will deduct the money once it is available for pick up...............

I dont recall this before!
Sounds like you went through the regular checkout route and chose instore pickup - i.e. you have paid for the phone and are simply collecting it.
If you wanted to reserve via iUP there was a completely different option to choose and you didn't provide any payment details.
I believe you can go to your pickup appointment, effectively 'return' the iphone you've paid for, get a refund, then set it up on iUP

Ha! - nice try, you owe it to your babies to make sure their lives are documented as perfectly as possible! ;)

My kid recoiled in horror when I told her that my Photos archive would one day be hers ... I do look back at some of our earliest digital photos (Fuji FinePix, May 2000) and tiny Nokia 7650 pics from 2002 and wish that they were better, but I think we may now be at the point of diminishing returns until I can get a Princess Leia hologram on my table.

Wish I was! If Apple are reading this I’ve bought every iPhone since the 3G! You owe me one!

I didn't provide payment details I just selected a reservation time. They've charged (or preauthorised) to the default card on my apple account.

I know there’s not a lot of us here, but anyone had any movement/change on o2?

My Data Usage on the line i am upgrading changed for about 1hr - but now back to normal - so maybe just system issues anyway - other than that no change beyond the initial emails then the text advising that Tuesday was not the collection day on Monday afternoon

I have been checking the reference number in dhl parcels tracker but does not exist yet.

I dont recall this before when reserving for IUP!

I had this last year when I thought I'd reserved under the iPhone Upgrade Programme.

Turned out I'd mistakenly in my haste chosen to only pick up in-store and hadn't gone through the correct link on the store for the Upgrade Programme.

They put me on to the Programme in the store, then refunded my card.

Were you quoted a monthly price on your reservation email?

Nope! :(

Yep!

So just about had a heart attack when I checked my credit card to see that over £2,000 pending (no details)

It appears that my in store reservations for Friday have been charged to my card in full despite my understanding that i was reserving to pay via IUP. On chat now..............
ouch sounds like you didn't do the IUP route? did you have to confirm your payment details when you did it?

my IUP checkout process was just picking the model, store and time.

how did you get to reserve the phone under IUP? I put some screenshots in the first post of this thread showing the steps I went through at least.

was it the same?

....what a load of *'#%?!?!!

That's not how IUP works.......:eek:o_O

At no stage during iUP Reservations do you provide payment details - you literally reserve the phone and sort the payments out in store. Heck, you can even change your mind and not turn up - what are they gonna do, keep your 'Pre-Authorization' fee.....?!!!

I have ordered from O2 every year apart from this year. From experience you won’t receive any email/text until Friday however if you go to my o2 and click your order number a tracking number will appear this will be any time between now and Thursday late. They ship with UkMail and DPD. I’ve moved to Apple this year for simplicity.
Last year they added DPD tracking numbers but said it was UK Mail

I think I did that with my first order through the app. Got to checkout and there is a big ‘apple pay’ button, and next to it is a button about alternatives. I clicked that one and selected a store for pickup and a slot. Thinking this was just a reservation and I’d do iUP when I arrived

But my email receipt included details of my debit card apple has on file so I think that was effectively pay and collect?? Cancelled just in case

Ordered again using the little banner that pops up on the website when you select a phone for ‘reserve for pickup’ - and that receipt email just has my time reservation and a QR code to show - no payment info is there

The pending transaction disappeared from Amex app. Still the order seems normal in Apple. This is for pickup from Cambridge Apple store.
If I remember correctly from Iphone X, they asked me and charged the card once I picked up the phone, so it should be the same process (convenient if someone is considering to switch to IUP)....

Are you upgrading again from Series 4 cellular to Series 5 cellular?

If you're keeping your Series 4 cellular and just upgrading the phone, you'll be fine. You get a couple of options when unpairing the watch - you just need to select "Keep Data Plan", and it'll remember the plan when you pair with your new phone.

The problem, as you say, is when you're upgrading from one cellular Apple Watch to another, whether via warranty exchange or upgrade from one Series to another and require EE's intervention.

Yep, basically, getting the new phone on Friday, the new watch on Monday/Tuesday... so I'll probably be fine for paring the existing apple watch plan to the new phone via migration, but I'll have to phone EE to sort out the e-sim for the series 5 ...
