I'm looking forward to the ultra wide camera as this gives some stunning shots on other phones that I have tried.

I’ve not done enough research into the improvements in brings? Found any useful examples to look at?

So it looks like it’s the 10th for the keynote! That means we’ll all have our new toys in 4 weeks

Which means an upfront £100 cost for my new phone as it’s not free until 20th and no I won’t wait til the 20th to order as who knows how long the wait may be as I want my new camera on the 11 pro in time for early October Hoilday

Technobuffalo do a good review of the galaxy S10 camera and show the 3 camera modes, ultra wide, wide and telephoto.... https://www.technobuffalo.com/galaxy-s10-camera-review

Looks like this is coming to the new iphone which will be awesome.

Edit: The XR replacement looks to be a dual camera, wide and telephoto.

So here we are again, the time of year we start off by feeling more than happy with our current phones with no pressing need to upgrade, but by the time you've read through the first 10 posts you're ready to throw your money at Apple!

Still a little vague on dates and names (the awful sounding Pro Max!) but that won't stop us getting to 1000 posts before the keynote!

I'll update this with more accurate information as it comes in.

(Times and prices etc will be BST and in Pounds (£) respectively.)

Please consider checking the FAQ section at the bottom of this thread before asking a question. I’ll keep it updated with the most popular questions so that the answers are quick and easy to find.

Latest news
Latest summary for this year's devices can be found here. All things point to little change in the overall sizes and capacity this year but significant changes rumoured are:

  • Triple lens rear camera with a square bump
  • 3D Touch replaced by Haptic Touch
  • Bilateral Wireless Charging
  • Frosted rear glass
  • A13 chip

Looking forward to seeing the regulars back on here! You can use this thread to discuss the UK price points, pre-orders and dispatch of the new iPhones, unlocked from Apple and through UK network carriers.

When the time comes please post to let everyone know if you were able to get your pre-order through to Apple, and if you had any problems. Let us know when your online order status changes - e.g. Order Processing, Preparing for Shipment, Dispatched and eventually Delivered. Last year it was useful for people to update their signatures to display their current status to avoid the endless posts asking for 'whats your status?'

Feel free to discuss cases and accessories too!

FAQ
When is the Keynote?

[tbc] Keynotes usually fall on Tuesday of the 2nd or 3rd week of September.
The 2019 should be either Tuesday 10/17th, September 12 at 18:00(BST) @ the Steve Jobs Theater at the Apple Park campus in Cupertino, California.

Where can I watch the Keynote?

The Keynote can be streamed online on apple.com [link tbc]

Where can I watch a replay of the keynote?

The replay of the keynote can be watched online [link tbc]

There is also a spoiler free link to the replay [link tbc]. I usually bookmark this page to go directly too later on in the day to watch the announcement without hearing/reading anything else.

What time do pre-orders start?

Pre-orders usually start the friday following the keynote, so that would assume be either:
  • Friday, September 13/20th at 08:01(BST) (TBC)

When is the official launch?

When there are no delays in production etc, models are usually available one week after pre-orders start. If this continues to be the case then it wold be:
  • Friday, September 20/27th (TBC)
Should I pre-order from the desktop store, or mobile app?
Historically the app is has been more stable when pre-orders first start, compared to the desktop store. Honestly I've never had much luck in the last few years of ordering to get the first batch of phones.. I've given up trying to guess!

Can I reserve for collection in store?

With previous launches there has ben an option to reserve for in-store pickup. After the official release day there has also been an option to check stock at individual stores and reserve.

How do I know if stores have certain stock available?

iStockNow also have great tracking and notifications for stock and also cover non-apple retailers.

Will my iPhone order be delivered on the Launch Date?

This will all depend on any stock constraints. If you are lucky to get in a pre-order and the estimated delivery shows for the launch date (date TBC), then you will get your phone on that day. If the shipping dates start to push out then you will have to unfortunately wait. Apple's estimated delivery dates are pretty accurate but they have had recent history in bringing forward some orders which has missed the initial launch day release

Is there a limit to how many iPhones I can order?

Apple typically imposes a limit of ordering 2 iPhones per Apple ID.

Will my order be delayed if I order a case/Apple Care with the iPhone?

In the past, people have experienced delays in receiving their orders if they order any accessories along with the phone. It is recommended that you order the iPhone separate to any accessories to avoid the potential delay.

Once I pre-ordered, Apple placed a hold on the funds in my account but released it a few days later without taking the money. Is there something wrong with my order?

When you pre-order from Apple and pay by credit or debit card, Apple will at some point place a ‘hold’ on the amount with your card company. This checks you've got the funds, and stops you spending them. However, a hold only lasts a few days, after which time your card company will automatically make the funds available to you to spend again. When you see this happen, it is nothing to worry about, it DOES NOT mean Apple has cancelled your order. Apple will not take the money out of your account until the day of shipping.

Apple has taken funds buy my order still shows 'preparing for dispatch'?
Pre-orders which are due for launch day delivery will usually see a change of order status to dispatched the day before delivery. Launch day stock is typically sitting at Apple's logistics partner, Syncreon, in Hinkley. The devices are handed over to a local courier (DPD or UKMail) from around the afternoon onwards on the day before. From this point your tracking would become active.

What courier will my order be delivered by?

On past releases, people who have been lucky enough to snag a launch day pre-order are likely to have their orders shipped from Syncreon in Hinkley. These deliveries and then usually handled by UK Mail and UPS.
Orders which have missed the launch date typically come direct from factory via UPS.

My order has been shipped with UPS, how can I track it?

On your order page there will be a tracking number starting with ‘1Z’, simply copy and paste it into the tracking box on the UPS website and it should display your tracking results. Please note that tracking numbers may take some time to become active.

My order has been shipped with UK Mail, how can I track it?

If your tracking number starts with '309', enter it into the UK Mail Tracking Page. Entering your post code is not required, however if you do enter it then you'll be able to change your delivery date or select to pick your order up at your nearest depot. If your tracking number doesn't start with '309', select the 'Customer reference' option and then enter your tracking details along with your post code. UK Mail should text you with a one hour delivery window, and you can view delivery progress online.

My order has been shipped with Syncreon, how can I track it?

Enter your 'Delivery Number' in the 'Order No/Delivery No' box on the Syncreon tracking page, and your Apple order number (starts with W) in the ‘’Web Order No’’ box. If your tracking number starts with '309' you will then be able to track it to delivery on the UK Mail Tracking Page. Please note that tracking numbers may take some time to become active.

How can I pay for my iPhone?

What is iPhone Fast Charging?

The science behind it

  • Watt (W): Total power and capacity of either a battery or an adapter.
  • Amps (A): The current at which power can flow between a charger and a battery.
  • Voltage (V): The amount of power being pushed from an adapter.
When you charge an iPad, iPhone, or computer, you're resupplying its battery (measured in watt-hours) from a power source like a wall outlet, usually via an adapter. That adapter controls how much power you can get (volts) from that outlet, and the speed at which you get it (amps). Those two factors multiplied result in the adapter's total available power.

Remember it's not about total watts — it's all about the amps and voltage. Modern iPhones and iPads support charging up to a current of 2.4A at 5V, while older devices charge around 1A at 5V. To get the best adapter for your device, you want one that charges at the appropriate amps (1-2.4A) while supplying the right amount of voltage.

A 5W iPhone adapter will pull just 1 amp at 5V, for instance, while USB ports on a computer can deliver 0.5-2 amps, and the 12W iPad adapter can deliver up to 2.4 amps.

The new 29W USB-C Adapter is special because it supports 5V charging at 2.4A (~12W), but it also supports USB Power Delivery for compatible devices, which allows them to charge at a much higher voltage (14.5V) and lower amps (2A). Because the amps are lower while the voltage is higher, it's more efficient from an electrical standpoint andoffers more power to devices that can take advantage of the technology.

What do I need for the iPhone?

To get the Optimum Charging times for your iPhone you will need the 29W USB-C charger and a USB-C to lighting Cable.

Its likely that 3rd party chargers and cables would work too.

Wireless Charging

What is iPhone Wireless Charging?

iPhones support wireless charging using the Qi (chee) standard. Qi wireless charging uses inductive charging technology, which involves two coils of copper wire (with a core of iron) - one in the device you are charging (or in a caseattached to that device) and one in a pad or mat on which you lie the device. When you put the two coils next to each other an electromagnetic field is created and that allows electricity to be passed between the two coils. While the two devices need to be touching or within very close proximity, the coils can be sealed within the devices.

The iPhone supports up to 7.5W for fast charging, but the latest Qi 1.2 standard actually offers up to 15W.

A suitable wireless charging device would need:

  • Qi - sounds obvious but it needs to support Qi
  • 7.5W of power. Some devices out there support less
  • Wall adapter - make sure the wall adapter you use with the wireless pad supports the speed you are after. A 7.5W pad with a 5W wall adapter will only charge at 5W.
  • Future Proof - the current Qi standard (1.2) supports charging at 15W. Interesting to see if this years iPhone will support charging above 7.5W You might want to buy a wireless pod that supports this in case.

Would a higher powered Charger damage non fast charge devices?
The short answer is no. Modern devices are built to only accept specific amp levels, so even if you plug your iPhone into an unsupported adapter, you'll only get the bare minimum the adapter supports (either the 5V/1A or 12V/2.4A charging spec).

[doublepost=1565867409][/doublepost]how are people set for this years iPhone? disgusted by the big square camera bump? Not bothered and will stick with what you've got?

Personally being on the upgrade program, its a bit of a no brainer for me to change.. I'm not expecting prices to differ this year. Also feel that pre-orders should be plentiful again.

I'm not overly fussed by the need for 3x optical zoom.. I'd love to see an equivalent of the Pixels Night Sight and see the improvements in low light.
Good post JinJin. You mentioned the 29W charger, but I haven't seen any thread showing that the iPhone 11 will support that. I would assume 18W like the current model. Maybe I missed the news.

Have to admit a lot of that first post is a lift and shift of what I did for what the X launched. I think you can get faster charging with usb-c power delivery. So where my MacBook has a 29w charger, I could get the appropriate usb-c to lightning cable to make use of it. Tbh it’s a non issue for me as I charge over night so no specific rush to quick up.

Was hoping for lightning being ditched for usb-c as per the iPad and then all my newer charging accessories would have worked.

I don’t think there will be a problem with supply. There isnt a frantic rush to avoid waiting like there used to be. It was so easy to get a new phone last year . People were more focused on getting the AW 4. Those were far more difficult to get hold of

But even so with carriers the wait can be 2-3 weeks if you order a fair few days after release. Will see though

Like most years I’ve been saying I wouldn’t upgrade this time and would stick with my Max. However I’m seriously considering opting for the 11R (or whatever it’s called). Always found the XS Max a little too unwieldy and could reduce my monthly payments significantly.

Ultimately I’ll probably depend on the camera. Hopefully it gets the same ultra wide angle and improved sensor rather than a telephoto.
If the screen resolution on the 11 is the same as the XR, you'll really feel short changed. On its own the XR screen looks fine but as soon as you used an XS or an XS Max you can't go back. The colours look washed out on the XR. I can't understand a 750p screen in 2019.

Yeah that’s definitely the worry. Going to have to swing by an Apple Store and get some hands on time before launch

30W Fast charing is actually possible as the iPad Pro comes with an 18 Watt charger but supports up to 30W Fast charging. The battery on the 11 Pro Max will be about 20% bigger than the XS Max so why not? This 50% charge in 30 minutes soundbites might be worth the effort. 45W just like the Note10+ however is not going to happen. It requires USB-PD revision 3 and PPS support, and Apple is always about 2-3 years late with new charging standards.

Recent rumour doing the rounds suggests 128GB will in fact be the base storage this year.
Recent? Latest rumour is 64,256,512GB, from the Foxconn leaker.
There was a Twitter rumour a few months back that stated 128GB.

I’m more inclined to believe the former...it’s Apple.

Yeah, last couple of days from Max Weinbach (usually a trusted leaker). But I also find it hard to believe

Just stumbled upon this thread. Awesome detailed post Jinjin. Most appreciated.

Current have an XS but considering going larger to an XS Max so keen to see what the 2019 line up brings. Might just go with the IUP since I practically get a new one every year anyway.

Thanks Jinjin for starting the thread again. Great to be back!

My main reason to upgrade this year is for the camera. I will probably go for the 11 Pro (possibly the 11 Pro Max), upgrading from an Xs. I don’t need a new iPhone, but it’s my yearly treat! :)

IUP works well for us yearly upgraders but bear in mind you also pay for apple care. Quite a few of us didn’t do the official route of the annual upgrade and sold the phone off (envirofone had a decent price iirc) and then paid off the loan. As the sale price was greater than remaining balance we were left with money in our pockets!

I’d tend to agree with you. Apple will always justify the 64gb saying they want to keep the entry price down.. not that they could ever do so at £1k!

Yeah I'm in the latter category. Sad to see EXTRA5 (envirofone) and TECH10 (Music Magpie) no longer work. Maybe they'll come back closer to the event. I've got a HUKD alert set up :D

I did this for my iPhone X, I came out with about £150 profit lol. I'm no longer on the iUP though, I just buy my phones outright now, less hassle.

Music magpie is offering 720 for my XS max 256gb. Not bad seeing as it only cost me 1000 shortly after launch. It’s very tempting to upgrade again!
Dam that quite a nice price I only got £770 in June for a XS Max 64gb.

I went on the IUP last year (in the UK)

Im aware you can upgrade after 11 months of payment - is there usually an option to pre-order the new iPhones on pre order day through the IUP?

I found it easier to pre order online with a credit card then swap to IUP in store after launch

This may be the first year ever that I don’t upgrade my phone. I’ve had every phone (apart from the 5c) since the 3G.

There isn’t really much appeal (for me) for the extra features this time around.
