Ah it does

If you see an X and an XR side by side it’s super obvious both the screen quality and the larger bezels on the XR. The XR is a nice size but the 11 isn’t exactly a massive upgrade from the X.

But we don’t use our phones side by side with another one. Used on their own I expect you’ll be used to it in no time

Doesn’t JL do free click and collect delivery to a local Waitrose?

Edit: yes for orders over £30.

Slightly OT, but have any of you ever used a skin on your new phone?

I’d really like to go caseless this year, and even though I’ll have AC+, I hate the thought of damaging my phone.
I put a skin in my SE
Skin was in the style of the old MacPlus / Mac II retro colours.
Two years ago passed the phone to the missus when I got the X, and it was only a month or so ago that the sockets for the sides finally flakes off. The sticker on the back is still there.

Dunno if it really offered much protection to drops, but stopped random scratches etc

However, i’d say it worked well on the SE because of the flat sided. The current phones all have curved edges, I suspect that’ll make it a pain to apply the skin

Am I the only one, who uses their phone naked?

I have only dropped and cracked my phone twice in 10 years(iPhone 5 and SE).

I am against using the case, it’s like buying a brand new leather sofa and then putting a plastic cover over it? I mean what’s the point?

Yes there is a risk, but I would rather live my life to the fullest than bubblewrap everything and play it safe.
Nope, you’re not the only one. I always reserve my left pocket for my phone and mine are never any more scratched and scarred than anybody else’s at the end of the year. I don’t like the added weight of even the smallest cases, which also take away that ‘premium’ feeling that Apple phones have.

Like you, I’ve broken two phones in 11 years and one of those would have broken even with a case on. I have insurance with a £100 excess which covers accidental damage. Comes free with my bank account.

Horses for courses though.

For me and no case depends what I will be doing

If I’m just out and about or going to the pub not drinking I won’t put a case on my phone

However when I’m out on a night out or going to the pub for a few beers it always has a case on just in case of a drunken accident and it smashes!

What about a screen protector? And are you on the Apple upgrade programme?

I’m now debating going from iPhone X to iPhone 11. Not sure the extra cost of the Pro for the camera is much of a use I’d actually get from it, especially with the fact I’d look at upgrading next year

Anyone go from X to XR last year and any thoughts on going from OLED to retina

I went from an X to an XR I didn’t notice much difference to be honest, I ran various videos side by side too.

It does amaze me that at the 13th year of iPhone launches the phone networks still cannot get their act together.

My girlfriend was a contractor with one of the big networks for a couple of years implementing new systems and trying to integrate the old ones (read ‘unpick the mess of’), some consumer, but mainly on the business and reseller side, and frankly I’m astonished any of them ever get anything at all together. A lot of what she told me made it sound like it was held together by the metaphorical equivalent of string, with processes often relying on long term experienced staff who knew how to keep the systems failings at bay.

Of course these key staff would often get hit by the seemingly random job cuts aimed at boosting the share price, often taking indispensable knowledge of undocumented systems with them.

I have no doubt they’re all much the same, perhaps down to 30 years of rather chaotic growth and mergers.

I've never broken any iphone since my first (3GS). But I do use cases, be it thin ones (mostly Spigen). Yet it staggers me how much of a difference exists in using it with a case and without. Currently got the 8+ and the experience of holding it naked is still pretty wonderful. The issue is, I've dropped my phone a fair few times (with a case on) I do wonder what might have happened if I hadn't protected it. Think indoors on the sofa, the case comes off. Out and about, perhaps not.

Out of interest, how quickly do you get your phone repaired/replaced using the bank insurance?

Also, is it genuinely “free”?

I am not @-Garry- but I have a similar situation. I pay for a bank account that includes car breakdown cover, phone cover and holiday insurance. The cost of the account is about £12 per month but saves me more than that for all those things. There is an excess on repairs (which is higher for iPhones than other devices) but I don’t recall exactly what the amount is.

I have only once needed to use the mobile cover (from a different supplier as it was years ago, but I am sure it’s still similar) and when that happened I needed to fill in a form then send off my damaged handset. It came back about a week later, fully repaired.

So, if you went down this route and needed to use the repair option you would need a temporary phone whilst your handset was away for repair. I’m not sure how quickly they would pay out for total-loss, or how much for that matter (I’m not sure if it is ‘like for like’ or ‘new for old’).

As with any insurance product, you can get ones with different parameters and levels of cover. Personally my iPhone is not an ‘expensive’ item in the way a car or house is, so just basic cover is sufficient. If my circumstances were different and it would be a big deal to replace the handset then I might be tempted into buying AppleCare+.

Someone asked if you were still limited to 2 phones per order

https://twitter.com/ijustine/status/1172485706721054720?s=21

just spent a few mins on her twitter watching an “old town road” parody :D

Where is the best place to trade in my Xs Max 256gb?

your best bet is to get quotes from places like carphone warehouse, music magpie, CEX, envirophone etc etc and go with who you’re happiest with / offer best value

All colours of the standard 11 still available for Friday delivery.
Doesn’t surprise me. Launch day is for geeks and geeks typically want the biggest / fastest / most high tech. Which is the Pro.

The 11 will be a solid seller but isn’t a day 1 purchase for most.
