Indeed! There was once a time Apple said people didn’t want large phones and now they have 6.7” monster out soon
Yea I like big screens, but 6.7 is getting a bit large. Although if the difference is only as much as someone posted pics, I might go for it. But it is still going to depend on the announcement if I will even upgrade at all

Question for someone that's previously been on iUP and the wanted to upgrade on launch day. On the day of pre-ordering, what do you actually do? I use the Apple Store app on my phone and was wondering if I:

1. Do a brand new order, select in store pickup and then sort the upgrade when you get there?
2. Is there a specific route of pre-ordering for an iUP upgrade?

I ask as I just went onto the 'Apple Store' app on my phone, and it says my iPhone 11 is eligible for upgrade, but then when I click 'Start now' it just says go into your local Apple Store to upgrade. So it made me wonder what route I actually take when it comes to pre-order day.

Though I’ve not actually ever “upgraded” with IUP (I usually settle up and pocket the cash) you should be able to use the ‘upgrade’ option in the app when pre orders go live to them reserve your new phone.

Also check out the first post, I put screen shots of how it was last year to reserve for IUP. You can also do that route too and then when you go to your appointment, tell them you want to upgrade

Thanks for that

I was going to buy the 11 pro but decided to wait. So the 12 pro will be .4 inches longer than the 11 pro?

Remember the screen size is on the diagonal so it won’t be a massive amount bigger than the current max phones.

...if the new 'mini' version is near the £500 mark then I may be tempted - I'm really not happy about delving into yet another £600 - £1000 2 year monthly payment plan again on the IUP, especially due to the fact that my XS has had minimal use during the past 7-8 month lockdown period.

I may just save my dosh and go for the new 2020 iPad Air this year - now THAT is a viable and worthy upgrade for my current first generation iPad Air 2.
;)

How will IUP work this year given you can’t go in to store?

And I think actually will open iUP a week or so early so people can get their stuff settled and setup their upgrade to use as a favorite for preorder. That's at least how it worked when I did it for the first time. I haven't done a second cycle yet.

...stores will be open - I'm not aware that they'll be closed??
I've heard all of TX is closed. I've heard some only have like one store in a reasonable range which is closed. Some have no stores in a reasonable range. We are fortunate with one within like five miles and a few around 50 which isn't too bad

Back in April this year I purchased a new Mac Pro for my business. Today I've just called the Apple Business Team and ordered a new iMac for the receptionist in my business to work on too. Because I've a business account and have spent several thousand with them recently they gave me a discount on the iMac.
Anyone know if there's a discount on the new iPhones at launch too or is that not possible?

...I guess nobody knows at this stage.

I'm sure you'll be able to apply for the IUP online once all the iPhone 12 links go live from Apple.
Been discussed before on this thread but some debate that would in reality be the case. Presumably fraud / security issues - proof of i.d. for example.

But this would be the same when applying for finance for anything, we bought an OLED TV online using Barclays Finance and the TV was worth more than most iPhones (apart from high end storage versions). Barclays do have systems in place to prevent fraud, but I suppose its down to them and Apple if they want to take the 'risk'

That’s an interesting point. I’m not going anywhere near shops unless I absolutely have to and buying an iPhone is about as low down the emergency list as you can get. I don’t use the iUP myself but I bet it’ll impact Apple a bit unless they create a workaround option.

I’ve always found visiting an Apple Store is on par with going to the dentist at the best of times too :p

Just wear a mask, or better still a space suit, not only will you look cool you'll drastically reduce the risk to catching C-19

When should the invites or announcement drop if it’s a Oct 13th online event

I reckon next week, giving a weeks notice (ish)

If they are announced the 13th, that means pre-order 16th delivery 23rd (based on previous years)

It is a fraud and security issue, yes some TV’s look fantastic but they are not going to be as in demand as the latest iPhone or any phone for that matter from any manufacture. In 2018-2019 more than 329,000 people had their mobile phone stolen, and with things like card details for Apple Pay & PayPal kept on the phone, there is a high risk of fraud. I know that Apple’s encryption is amongst the best in the world but anything programmed does have the ability to get hacked.

Yes I could be completely inaccurate but it is just how I see things.

Ready to give Apple my money the 16th for the regular 12 6.1" 256 GB
I would go on the Pro one only if there is more than expected.

I'm coming from an iPhone 7 purchased day one 4 years ago, can't wait the upgrade :)

As we were talking about IUP and not being able to attend a store to upgrade and show ID etc, and as its a new phone, card details wont be on the phone at that point which makes your points kind invalid. The only risk to Apple/Barclays would be the loss of a phone, but they would ensure delivery to the address the person lives at with no option to deliver to a neighbour etc (like DPD), in the world today you can never fully prevent fraud, just try and reduce the risk of it happening.

We can mention figures (for example 296,000 burglaries in the 12 months preceding March 2019) but obviously not every burglary involved stealing a TV, likewise out of the 329,000 stolen phones, how many had security activated on them?

Pretty sure the fraud and security issues will be on the new phones with signing up going missing, so nothing to do with Apple‘s encryption and card details stored on devices

.....I received a Barclays statement the other day (not sure why as my account was cleared in April this year) which showed that back in September 2018, my IUP cost me a whopping £1129 for my iPhone XS

.......just WHAT was I thinking????!

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Kinda cements my decision to not upgrade again this year and get a new 2020 iPad Air instead (when its released), which will cost less than half the price of my phone!!
