I have been with Apple from the start, I have most of their products mainly because of the quality, engineering and design BUT recently they have gone haywire with daft ideas, where is the wireless charging pad I was waiting for, why are they so late at embracing some technology, because they want to trap you in their eco system and I am that trapped person. My kids choose my phone, after a year it goes down through the family, big kid to little kid to grandma to grandpa so 5 people benefit, I live with my iPad, I bought the new 12.9” Pro with magic keyboard, it’s fantastic, I rarely look at my phone it’s only there for when I’m out and about, it’s the kids that use them, I rarely use my Apple Watch but it does store useful data, as for iMacs, MacBooks and iPads we all have one of each, have maybe 30, we don’t sell stuff so it builds up as we update, time for a clear out I think 👍

I have been around longer enough to remember the good old days before all the marketing rubbish, I get what suits my needs and I don’t care if it has an Apple on it or not, but as I said some Apple stuff is great and the integration between devices is brilliant, it’s just a shame there is some much better technology and gadgetry out there now that Apple make difficult to connect with.

Standard stuff.

On a totally unrelated note, my Belkin MagSafe car mount thing is dispatched and arriving tomorrow. Initially said 7th December so will be nice to see it come tomorrow.

Let's not kid ourselves it's all about enticing you into their ecosystem this is the way all big tech companies work, Amazon & Google are no different from Apple, in fact in a lot of ways they took their lead from Apple.

I changed to Apple when the first iPhone came out that was the first Apple device I'd ever owned, it was limited in functionality compared to the 3G but the leap in tech and the attention to detail was amazing, Apple knew exactly what they were doing, the first iPod & iPhone were gateway devices for many out there in a PC dominated era. The first iPhone more than anything else it could be argued boosted consumer visibility of Apple into the stratosphere and for good reason their core products are the best out there, I remember how impressed I was with the build quality and operating system on my first MacBook Pro and to be fair to them I've never seen that quality drop on any of my devices having had many iterations of their devices.

Some would argue but what about Samsung and co they have all the latest cutting edge features why doesn't Apple innovate as much as them. I'd argue why would they! most of those "Innovations" are rushed and half baked at best, Apple plays the long game they sit back and watch what works then try to perfect the concepts that survive.

Would I say I'm imbeded in the ecosystem? sure but I can't see a downside, I know that doesn't work for everyone but to be honest it's not like you buy your first Apple product and get press-ganged to go all in, all tech companies do the same thing I've just found Apples model to be better than any other company out there due to their emphasis on privacy and the fact that unlike Amazon & google I'm not getting data mined the hell out of.

When it comes to the HomePod Mini is it as cheap for a somewhat similar set of features as Echo Dot's no but then the reason Amazon gets to sell you all that gadgety goodness for much less is not altruism, they're making the difference up through what they can market to you and what data they can gather on you and sell from that device. Is the HomePod Mini as good as the Sonos One, no but it's half the size and half the price. And given most peoples complaints that Apple overprice all their products, Apple selling HomePodMini's for £99 is frankly bargain basement prices for them.

Now Accessories well I can see it from both sides, It's all about notional value, Apple can and do charge £59 bucks for the leather case, is it worth it? again this is notional value, if I'm willing to buy their top end phone why would I blink at a £59 case, is the case the best on the market probably not but it's one you can be sure as hell will fly out the door otherwise they'd have to rethink their pricing point. For what they are I've had them since the iPhone 6 and never had an issue, it'll be getting replaced with the next iPhone so longevity to me isn't an issue I just like that it's designed to work perfectly with the £1,000+ phone I've just bought.

With the wallet is it necessary? no, is it practical? depends on your viewpoint, Do you have to buy one? no. But bear in mind regardless of the reviews just try and find one for sale that delivers tomorrow outside of marked up e-bay sales, I'll wait.

Apples a company after all not a charity and they have a duty to their shareholders to increase profit year on year, people see Apple for some reason as the big bad for this like it's a bad thing, if anyone here can tell me they'd run it differently well done! you get a gold star for altruism and relegation to obscurity because that's the way business works, you can't spend billions on R&D if there's no cheddar in the bank to fund it.

As to the good old days, lets not kid ourselves Apple has always been a PR/marketing machine it was Steve Jobs signature move from the start, that's where his genius lay, from the reality distortion field to the 1984 Mac add, to "your holding it wrong" anybody thinking it was any different has got rose tinted glasses on!

Now does that mean they're not a good company? hell no, they're the best one out there. Their customer service is second to none, I've been gobsmacked with the way they've just dealt with issues I've had from replacing a motherboard on an 19 month old MacBook Pro for free totally outside of warranty when it should have been £700 because "that shouldn't have failed this soon" to the time they swallowed the £150 upfront cost of my new iPhone 7 because O2's systems were playing up on launch day, Just try and get any other company to do that without arguing with them.

For those and may other reasons they have my loyalty.

As a shareholder I have an interest on what they do, but I am seeing discontent from customers, just check throughout the internet, I don't want to be seeing that and the reason for this need to ve explored by them, you need to have insight of the bigger picture, you see what you recognise and you recognise what you now, so in order to facilitate this you need to have exposure to lots and lots of things, so staying locked down within a barricade could be their and some of their customers problem. I never turned down the chance to see, experience and learn from others, this is also critically important for Apple for competition reasons, they have missed the boat on the Echo / Google smart speakers, they brought out a flop of the initial HomeHub and have tried to rejuvenate that with the mini, lets see how it goes but I am less than impressed with it, I don't feel its up to Apple standard or at least the sponsored reviewers hype, its a cheap plastic speaker.

As for what else you say I agree, I have some very old Apple kit that looks and works like new, even original ipods, as for things failing within 24mths they have a legal duty repair it, EU law also stipulates that you must give the consumer a minimum 2-year guarantee (legal guarantee) as a protection against faulty goods, or goods that don't look or work as advertised, so they have not done you any favours they have compiled with the law.

I am fully integrated into the Amazon world, it seems I'm a sucker for these types of business models, but I just find the technology used, efficiency, convenience and high standards the winner for me.

You don't have to look far on the internet for discontent with Apple, as a $2 trillion company there's a big ol target painted right at them and mostly that's from peoples individual expectation on what they should deliver against what is realistic and works for the masses, Steve Jobs never believed you should listen to what people want, but rather to give them what they don't know they need.

You mention lockdown and barricade well that's no different from Google & Amazon, if you buy all in to their ecosystem then you're gonna find there's parts that don't play nice with Apple and vice versa that's just how companies stay relevant (god knows it frustrates me to no end that I can't integrate my Nest cam with Homekit) It's all about trade offs what's good for you with one system limits me with mine.

As to the HomePod Mini for £99 I was never delusional enough to expect it was a top end speaker anyone that does is hopeful to the point of delusion, but I will say it's anything but a "cheap plastic speaker", I'd love to know what else they can make it out of as all of Amazon & Googles offerings are the same yet to see something different metal doesn't lend itself well to acoustics.

I remember 4 years ago getting a Beats Pill and it didn't have anywhere near as many features and comparable sound to the HomePod Mini and they're now going for £179 from essentially the same company, the difference is I think Apple's discounting the overall cost of the Mini with the hope of increased service sales (not data they can sell) and if that works then your next dividend will increase 😁

It's great that you think that "I need to have an insight of the bigger picture & only see what I see and know what I know" with no exposure to "lots and lots of other things" but the reality is I've been and will always be a gadget nerd that has seen and owned lots and lots of "other things", some I find useful and some I don't, where they deserve praise I'm happy to give it where they don't I won't.

For you Amazon's system works and more power to you, for me it didn't, different strokes for different folks.

It's true there's the 6yr EU guarantee on products that suffer a hardware failure but most companies including Amazon would still argue the point as to Apple waiving the £150 upfront cost on the iPhone 7 that still stands out to me as they footed that bill not O2.

I do have to agree with you that Airpower was a flop, they should never have announced it but now there's the Belkin charging stand coming out soon that I'm looking forward to 😁

And you know what? we will still be buying the stuff and I appreciate all on here for making me shed loads of money, BUT I would rather a little more ethical ness, but a fool and their money and all that, and yes I have a HomePod mini in the drawer so I was sucked in faster that a Dyson vacume cleaner.

Still I have avoided the stupid bah bah wallet, rip off phone case to stick the wart wallet on and an ugly car MagSafe that DOES NOT include a charger. I have however in the last month bought AirPods, Airpod pros, 12.9" iPad pro 512GB with magic keyboard, a magic mouse, Apple pencil 1 and Apple pencil 2, the New iPad, 12 Pro Max 256Gb, iMac, 13" MacBook with touch bar, so I do help Apple out ;)

Kudos to you for all the Apple product purchases 😁

But I fail to see the lack of "ethicalness" Apple for it's size is one of the more ethical companies out there, for their size of company their ethical standpoint is as far as it goes good, try asking Google or Amazon where they source their components/materials from and see if it stands up to Apple's standards.

As to quality of products they state the price of the product up front and sell it, buyers choice there's no deception there, if there's a cheaper alternative out there then great but it's up to the buyer to make that decision.

The ugly car Magsafe Charger is all Belkin not Apple.

To be honest as a shareholder in Apple I'd decry them left right and centre all over the internet if I thought the company was failing in performance and screwing up badly, but the fact is they keep going from strength to strength. Given that I wouldn't go on one of the biggest forums for Apple fans around and knock Apple over Amazon over and over, the only thing that gains is a loss of Dividend to you🤗

You may answer that with you feel a duty to call them out on their failings, and I respect that but that's what an AGM is for where every investor (technically, I Know, technically) gets to call the board and senior management out, that to me seems a better angle of attack than an online forum. 🤗

I feel its better to say what I feel needs to be said within the community, that way it hopefully makes people think and they in turn give their honest feedback instead of being afraid to go against the flock, lets face it most people on here are in the eco system as am I, as I said on one of my earliest posts you never know who reads this from Apple, it may just make them think, anyway lets see when the real reviews start to come out, I watched the one on the phone itself but felt it a little unfair, I think the 12 Pro Max is a beauty and have no reservations about my purchase, Apple accessories, well that's another matter, there are already other version about and I have bought a Belkin type unit for my car, looks a lot nicer though and works perfectly.

Have a great week!

And that's the way it should always be, it's a forum after all! Lets face it we don't all have the same point of view but sometimes once in a while we'll learn something from each others experiences, and given your history with Apple I'm sure we'll learn a few more tid bits that'll help us all 😁

Well I thought I knew quite a lot but have learnt so much since browsing the forum, I’m pretty new so just quietly finding my way around, felt sorry for those with phones delayed so stuck around for some moral support, looks like all is working out fine.

Keep safe out there, cheers!

Apple products are expensive and overpriced but no one has to buy them. I do because I love them. Had really bad experiences with android and windows devices (years and years ago), bought a Mac and have never had any problems since. Been with Apple ever since. Android and Windows have probably improved but I don’t have the time or the inclination to look into it. Apple works for me and I’m lucky to be able to afford their products. We’re all different but to me it’s a simple decision.

I think a lot of people on this forum remember too. I don't think it's a big deal tbh.

I remember the marketing hype started around 1984.

I'm not talking about the core Apple products, I'm talking about the fluffy chavvy nonsense they are getting involved in, why not leave third parties to make the frilly accessories, what on earth do they need to make wallets for, I tell you what, pure profit! Ask yourself why would they design a beautifully engineered phone and sell an overpriced cover to cover it up, even an ugly cover if your looking at the clear silicon with a ring on it and a dash, not only that they get even more greedy and convince you that you now need a wart wallet to put cover what they claim is the best ever wallet over what they claim is the best ever designed phone, then you have to remove the wart wallet to get your cards out or charge it! Look guys, smell the coffee and help put an end to that, let them concentrate on what they do best and thats the tech, leave cases and wallets to others to get a share of the pie.

I have never gone naked, I have always had a case on my phone to protect them as my old phones pass down through generations and up again, we get 7yrs out of a phone at least, same with iPads, MacBooks and iMacs. I did try going naked with my XS Max but it was such a slippery object I had to cover it up, But with the 12 Pro Max I actually feel so comfortable with it naked, its a bit bigger and fits perfectly in my hand, I think returning to the square edges does it for me, but I do have quite a few cases for it already, my free silicon one is favourite at the moment, it came with screen protectors and a black silicon case that was advertised on a deal through here on Amazon.

I'm just waiting for the iRucksack to put all this stuff in, talk about simple clean lines on the phone, the steel band around the edge, the special back, the new colours, all covered up in nonsense with nonsense over that nonsense,
really!

Oh and by the way you can get up to 3 cards in the wart wallet BUT the Apple card is so thick you can only get that and one other in, well of course you always have your proper wallet with you anyway won't you, so you can use that 😄 And I guess there must be numerous people on here with metal cards of different colours, they won't fit either.

I don't often hand this gen product down the line, quite often like others I sell the last iPhone I had and that funds the new one. but that's just me, different situations 🤗

Why not design add ons that you can sell at a premium? it brings in money, are the third party offerings better/more advanced, sure but that's the buyers choice.

In reality Apple harms no one by offering their own accessories, it's the buyers choice to go for them against other products, I'm damn sure if Apple stopped offering accessories there'd be a backlash.

But if you've got a link to the iRucksak (we made a rucksack like no one else could) can you share it🙏

I have run out of people to give phones to so have a Gold Xs Max 512GB I bought in March lying in a drawer in an original Apple black leather case, see I do buy the odd bit of tat :D I guess it will lie there until someone breaks their phone and used as a spare, its as new so I'm not giving it away to a re seller.

I'm sure the iRucksack would soon be in the iSuitcase and then onto the iPlane to iIsland for an iHoliday not forgetting your iSunscreen! I will let you know if I see one 👍

Here is a 1 week later review of the 12 Pro Max from an influential reviewer, I'm happy with mine just concerned I should have got the 512GB, maybe I need to delete that Arcade crapple they got me to download, and all the games that followed, never going to use it I keep dying.

Spot on. Companies offer choice and it’s for the consumer to decide.

Also, companies are there to make money, sometimes for the majority shareholders who are VCs not the Jonny-come-latelys. For certain accessories they charge for the privilege such as the MFi program. Which brings in more money from third-party accessories.

A bit off topic but my 12 pro Max PB arrives today and I’m yet to buy a case for it.

any recommendations? Good grip and not bulky. Would be cool to get a clear to show off the blue BUT open to suggestions. Thanks all.

I find my clear silicon the nicest, it’s a cheap, why not try one to start only £5 or so, as mentioned mine came free in a pack with screen savers and lens savers, why cover a beautiful piece of engineering if not absolutely necessary?

You get ONE and only one chance to get a screen saver on a brand new phone the second you take the protective front off, with this kit you can’t go wrong, you get a frame you quickly clip on then peel the back off the screen protector and lay it in top first and it just fits perfectly checking all air is out, then clip off the frame and put on the cover, I didn’t bother with the lens caps, you get 3 screen covers https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08HV9HSB1/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I've gone for the Baltic Blue leather case but Spigen have always been my go-to for cases in the past
