I reckon there's a 10% chance Apple goes E-Sim only in the UK this time - Not likely, but not impossible.

The European model is also the model supplied to Africa, I would think the chances of it being an eSIM only phone is a lot lower than 10%.

Thanks for the tip, although I could only get £680 on both sites, which is the same as Music Magpie (through their postal method). What prices did you get offered for a iPhone 15 Pro Max 512GB?

I don't think I mind taking the £30 hit to use their machine for an instant payment, so will take myself off to the nearest machine on the day after my new iPhone arrives (hopefully I get one for launch on what is expected to be 20 September)
Also when you factor in special delivery to cover the value of the item you are the best part of £10 so really only £20ish hit.

I agree with taking the £30 (£20) hit comment.

I used their machine for the first time last year. By the time I’d got back to the car, the money was in my account and I paid Barclays off straight away.

Can anyone with Sky Mobile remember if their pre-orders go live at the same time as everyone else?

If say, Apple's pre-orders go live for 1pm on 13th (or whenever it is), do Sky's mobile/upgrade pages update at the same time or later? I seem to remember recently they went live a little bit earlier (like 12.45pm).

Thanks

Hello, hello gang! Good to see some familiar names back on the scene!

Still on the fence about upgrading this year. Didn't upgrade from the 14 Pro Max to the 15 Pro Max, but feeling like there's something worthwhile after 2 years of updates.

Currently, I'm thinking of the following:

- 16 Pro
- 1TB
- Barclays 24 months

Downsizing feels sensible, especially if the screen size is getting a marginal increase. Also hoping the camera system parity returns between the Pro and Pro Max.

1TB also feels sensible, as I'm now on 450GB and would look to keep this for another 2 years.

Trade in with Apple against Barclays 24 months would likely see ~£500 to £600 bringing my upgrade to ~£30 to £37 a month.

I'm away on business on the 20th. Does anybody recall what the rules are on somebody else collecting on my behalf? Wife doesn't work Fridays anymore, so could be her first ever iPhone launch day pickup.

Apologies as I'm sure this has been asked many times, but can you do a trade in and take out the 24 months 0% in store at the same time? Still using my iPhone 12 and think it's time for an upgrade, trade in is currently £170 but that may drop next week, but makes the 16 Pro around £35 a month. Thanks

I think I’m out this year. I normally upgrade every year but each year there is so little change that I always wonder why?! So I am going to try and stay strong and stick with my 15PM this time but I will be replacing my Series 7 AW with either a normal series 10 or an ultra 3 so at least I still get some launch day fun!

Heads up for anyone with EE. They’ve overhauled their plans from 29th August with some big changes to All Rounder and Full Works plans. Seem to have reduced the number of included extras but now including roaming options and the watch data plan within Full Works. Multi line discount also capped at £12 now rather than a full 30% ☹️ They also seem to have dropped Anytime Upgrades

Wait so is the Anytime Upgrade thing going away? my 2 year full works plan ends on 15th sept 2024 and was hoping to jump on another one with the new 16PM

Those on the upgrade program can you sign up online? Or does it have to be in store?

I am thinking of joining this year but not sure how it works. I’d ideally sign up online before the release day and then order. If I have to wait for release and go the store I’ll probably not get a release day phone as I assume I’d not be able to sign up before hand. Plus the store isn’t accessible to me as it’s in a fully pedestrianised area (I’m disabled. Can’t walk very far) so I can’t get dropped off anywhere near it so I’d have to hire a mobility scooter etc.

Can you apply online or does it still have to be in store?

IUP is in store to complete, but you can pre-order along with everyone else. the 0% 24m can be done in advance of preorder (usually the evening after the launch event) and that makes the checkout on pre-order day just a few clicks and easy to do.

edit:

its the same credit check/amounts if you go IUP or 24 months... with the 24 months you dont have to go to store and can have it delivered.

IUP is good if you want to upgrade every year and happy to just hand phone back to apple after 11 payments have been made. In reality, you would be a little worse off (if that is an issue) as you can typically sell the phone via a reseller like music magpie, UR or Meelie and get more than apple give. You can then pay off the Barclays loan directly and keep the difference.

also with IUP you have to take AppleCare, with paying 24m/0%.. the choice is yours on if you want AC

I've been toying with the IUP instead of the 0% Barclays credit (and pay off after 1 year) approach I normally do.
I sell (eBay or The Magpie etc) my phone every year so I keep it in as good condition as possible, using a case. Which I hate. Id much rather go naked.
Thats where the IUP with AppleCare becomes attractive (keep your naked jokes to yourself please) - I dont have to worry as much about it being pristine to protect its value. Apple will accept reasonable wear and tear, or fix anything bad with Apple care.
The thing holding me back is that I dont completely understand the logistics. If Im right, I can apply and set up the IUP about a day after the launch (next Monday), and be pre-approved.
Then I go to the Apple website for the on sale day (guessing Friday 13th) and order, where my payment options will include the IUP.
Then on launch day (guessing Friday 20th) I tootle along to my friendly neighbourhood Apple Store, hand over my old phone (they can have the bloody fine woven monstrosity as well) and run away into the distance with my new phone.

Then next year, rinse and repeat.

Does that sound right to everyone ?

Agree to an extent. I stuck with my 14PM last year and coming around to the thinking that every 2 years might be a sweet spot to feel a noticeable difference EXCEPT will likely want the 17 next year if rumours of more radical line up changes are accurate.

I think you can preorder or to be more accurate reserve for collection on IUP but don't think you can get preapproved or set up the IUP in advance. That I believe has to be done in store when collecting when I looked back on last years chat.

So you don’t even know if you are approved? That’s not good as if you fail you have no phone and be waiting weeks to get one
