Managed to get a iPhone 16 Pro Max 256 Titanium Black from Amazon with a case I don't need (forced bundle) before it sold out, the second it went through it immediately went out of stock.
You should've held out for the White you wanted! 🥲

Was that a 256 or a 1TB?
256GB. They emailed me saying their call failed to go through (they didn't try... as I didn't have my number on my account lol) so I phoned back and they said they are on backorder until 27/10.

So there seems to be a difference of opinion on when stock (if available) shows. Below is my approach, but it may be completely wrong (and I just got lucky with people returning / cancelling at a timepoints).

I assume that stock only shows when the physical delivery is checked into the store. So I was checking around 0930 onwards (using the available pickup in the checkout on the Apple site). In my case, around 1000 they showed the 256GB/Natural as being available in Norwich (and was for about 1hr). I also saw some available devices in Battersea for a couple of minutes and also Edinburgh.

I have 3 sets of postcodes (I live in Cambridge and don't mind a train ride to a store anywhere that's a few hours away) that I use working on the assumption that availability is via shipment from China that hits lots of stores in the UK on the same day:

WC2E 8HB (the Apple Covent Garden store) so this looks at all the London stores
NR2 1SU (the Norwich Store) that gives wider area North of London
G1 2JX (the Glasgow Store, an idea of pipeline if any are available).

As noted, another poster says stock opens at 0600 so it may be that I just got lucky !! The approach above has worked over the years to the point where even though there is a store in Cambridge, I've bought about 75% of my store reserved iPhone and Watch in Norwichwithin about 1 week of release.
They can show at anytime. One previous year I was about to drive up from West Yorkshire to Newcastle (reserved early morning). I went to buy petrol before setting off (around 14:00) & decided to have another check for stock - there was inventory showing in Leeds & Meadowhall. This saved me a long drive.

The thing to remember is that the delivery couriers could show up at different times throughout the working day. I guess the very esrly morning stock is when the inventory updates for iPhone’s that have not been collected.

In order of preference white, black, silver, gold, also saw on Amazon one for sale without a bundle, grabbed that instead, not keen on paying ÂŁ39 extra for a case when I have one already Which is much nicer.

Delivery Sunday

The last 2 Pro Max's I have just ordered the day after launch either from Apple or John Lewis. There was a delightful individual in the Oxford Street JL yesterday evening, who expressed her disgust at the poor employee there was none in stock for her to buy IMMEDIATELY. This, after clicking her fingers repeatedly and shouting at him across the room. I'm grateful I don't work in retail...

Good point on the couriers. I suspect that the store also vary the time for security reasons (let's face it Apple could mandate a timed delivery to the store if they want).

On the early morning, I think this will be cancelled orders. For collection I think they keep for a fair amount of time. A few years back I had arranged collection and tested positive for Covid. I called the store and they said they hold it for a fair amount of time (in my case over a week). This of course could have changed !

If you buy an iPhone from any other retailers other than Apple (Curry's, Argos, John Lewis etc..) can you return it if you don't like the phone like you can with Apple?
with Argos I don't think you can, since you can only return unopened items.

If you buy it online, it is UK law:

I'm appalled of how many people are doing this.

Just go to a store and check them. How can you spend over ÂŁ1k just to see if you like it?

The waste that this generates is absurd... and makes you wonder if the phones we get are actually new; or just refurbished.

This lack of stock of iPhone 16 Pro Max, reminds me of the madness that it was to get a PS5...
It's ridiculous!

Still in the hunt for a 256, Black, ProMax

this why if spending all that money I like it or not. It's not the same to check it in the store than in real life. John Lewis for instance have the phones locked up you can't even feel the weight properly with all security cables

Argos wouldn't let me return an item I bought online from them because I opened the box , they only accept unopened or faulty items
Was it click and collect, or delivered? If it was delivered, and still undamaged, and with original packaging, you should have stood your ground.

There’s a 512gb Natural Titanium available at Apple High Cross.
