OK now it let me in and order in. Less hassle than last year where I ended up with 2 because the order system screwed up and didn't think it had gone through.

Yeah, it was super easy this year and I didn’t even bother using to pay Apple Pay as that can get rejected sometimes. I just used my debit card and it’s sailed through.

Done too. Last year 15 mins before I got in. Today, 3 mins ish.

Difference? I didn’t refresh (kill and relaunch) the app on the phone at all since I opened it at about 12:30pm.

The other two windows (desktop browser and ipad store) I kept refreshing, and they’re still showing please wait.

Not suggesting thats the reason, but if others see the same thing then maybe its a sign.
