Need help with flashing Sapphire Radeon HD 4890

could you please help me flash pc rom to work on macpro1,1 10.9.3 ?
(right now i'm on 10.7.5 with black screen, but can operate via screen sharing)

i also wonder, if it is possible to use both dvi ports (i have dual 24" monitor setup)

what steps do i need to do further?

To use 4890 requires an OS hack.

I believe that there is a fix at Netkas, you need to register to see attachments.

4890 also requires different EFI than 4870. You will need to do some research and you may find that all the effort is not worth it, every OS update has to be patched to work again. Lots of bother for little speed advantage over 4870.

Not messed around with Mac Pro for years.
I made an EFI rom using Zeus and attached in this post, but afaik this card should boot unflashed on mavericks, just no bootscreen. Won't guarantee that this rom won't brick your card, so don't use it unless you got backup card and can use bootcd+atiflash.

This card also needs driver patches, specific to OS version, which some guys at netkas forums still produce and share:

You will get better help over there, as I said, not messed with this for years, and I don't give support for Zeus anymore.

HD 4890 really can boot unflashed on Mavericks (MacPro1,1), tho without bootscreen.
Installing Exotic Patch, I got nice and fast graphic. But....

But only one display goes on.
I can see in System Report, that both displays are recognised properly. Also Screen Sharing shows me dual desktop, but one display wont go on. If I switch the ports, only one display at the time goes on.

Would be there any benefit (working dual display) if I flash the card?

Help With XFX HD-489A-ZDFC v. 5.4

Hello Cindori,

First off, I would like to say that, as a novice computer scientist, I really admire all the work you've done for the community. I hope to one day get to a level of understanding where I can do a fraction of what you've done.

I have been trying to setup my XFX HD-489A-ZDFC 5.4 with Mavericks 10.9.4 for the past few weeks, learning little by little what needed to be done but I can't seem to get there so I've decided to ask for help. I've downloaded QE/CI kexts done by Fantomas, specific to 10.9.4 but everytime I install and boot (normally, not in safe boot) I get either a white(grey?) screen with black lines or a black screen with white boxes (if I boot verbose). I've tried various ROMs for the card, (I have two so I've been using one to recover if I reach a critical error) but seem to have no luck. I'm going to attatch my orignal rom if that helps at all. I do remember reading one of your old posts saying that there were no working ROMs for that specific card but I'm not sure what's changed since then, I'd hope that somebody else with my card has been able to do it.

Specs:
Asus P6t deluxe v2
Core i7 920
2 XFX HD-489A-ZDFC rev 5.4

I used latest Unibeast and Multibeast with a DSDT-Free install. Used Fantomas' 10.9.4 QE/CI Exotic kexts. Before installing those kexts I can boot in (in a lower resolution, 1024x768 or 1400x1050 if I set resolution to 1080p in boot.plist). After installing kexts, I get those problems (with or without graphicsenabler).

Let me know if I can provide any additional information/documentation or if you know that you can't solve this now.

Even if I don't get this card working, I've learned a lot from you. I'm mainly setting this hackintosh up to develop in xcode for a school project, so worst come to worst, I will just use safe boot and program in a lower resolution, it's just annoying to look at my screen in a lower resolution.

Hi Jarryd
Flashing a card does zero for a hackintosh.
Flashing is strictly for use in Mac Pro's. It does not benefit a PC hackintosh in any way.

To solve your problem, you will have to mess around with the bootloader/graphicsenabler and QECI kexts. I can't help you with that, but there are great resources over at http://www.insanelymac.com and http://forum.netkas.org.

I can't get my Radeon HD 4890 working in any of the Yosemite releases on my Early 2008 Mac Pro.

Works fine in Mavericks etc.

Hello there,
I know it's a really old thread, but I need help with a HD4890 in a Mac Pro 1,1.

Where can I currently find the files needed to have Mac OS X load the related kexts? Currently I have the card in the machine and System Profiler says it's just a "Display" and Kernel Extension Info at the bottom reads "No Kext Loaded".

I have a Mac Pro 1,1 running 10.11 El Capitan (I also have 10.7.5 handy if needed).

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi Friends, i have a mac pro 3.1 early 2008 with the 4890 flashed and loaded in the preferences panel as a RADEON 4890HD
But i only can load a monitor 1024x1200 monitor in a 1 dvi, nothing in the other dvi and no more resolution capable, for example i can't use my cinema display 23"

What can i do? I'm using MacOS "El Capitan"
