Using Peloche's new writeup I'm running into a brick wall. When pasting the dd code block into Terminal I get the following attached results. The instructions are also slightly off. When it says to change Number mode it's under the Edit menu, not File. It's Find, not Finf. :p

Why it puts twice "blocknum=`printf %d "'\`dd if=EFIROM.rom bs=1 skip=2 count=1 2>/dev/null\`"`" ?

In fact it's its home made wall

Why it follows instructions so lightly ?

Instruction doesn't say copy line by line and in double, instruction says:

Copy the TEXT located in the right box and paste into terminal, hit return:

When copying the block of text located in your text to paste attachment and pasting into Terminal as instructed yields those results. There was no line by line pasting or doubling.

If you copy the block of text you must get something like the first picture, the second picture shows that you have twice the same command which are nor in the script wrote by Pipomolo42 neither in the file "Text to patch".

I can't install my Asus 4890 in my Mac Pro 1,1. The bottom heat sink (like here http://www.legitreviews.com/images/reviews/1056/Sapphire_4890_2gb_back.jpg) is in the way (theres no room for it above the box of the memory board). Or am I getting something wrong? I'm supposed to install the grapics card in slot 1 right?

I tried to install the asus eah4890 ddr5.
It didnt work and I totally bricked the card.Either by following the (at that time) not so perfect instructions or because those cards just dont work.
With the present Cindoris prog things might work.
But think long and hard if you want to go that route.

It had the exact same memory heatsink in it, wich I promptly removed with needlenose pliers. After that it fit there.

But in short, that card might or might not work. Probably wont.

Oh sh*t, that doesn't sound too good.

But I don't think they'll let me return the card to the store anyway...

Macinposh, weren't you the guy that bricked your card cause you flashed using iMac firmwares instead of 4890 roms? so basically, no one has tried the asus yet.

Wich probably bricked the card because of the said issues...
Probably.
:)

I tried to write the "sudo rm ATIFacelessFlash.app/Contents/Resources/*IMG"

but it gave "rm: ATIFacelessFlash.app/Contents/Resources/*IMG: No such file or directory"

I (still) wrote after that

"sudo kextload ATIROMFlasher.kext"
"sudo open ATIFacelessFlash.app"
"sudo kextunload ATIROMFlasher.kext"

Then I restarted.
Then it got stuck in the neverending boot chime...

probably.

streetwise: go try the asus with app in my sig. I would try a sapphire rom. Be sure to backup your rom with GPU-Z in windows first.

So there's no reason the ASUS card couldn't work?

I think I'll try to return the card and get a Sapphire one. If they don't take it back I'll try to flash.

Removing those heat sinks won't cause any overheating issues?

As far as I know, every model of the 4890 we have tried to get working, we have made to work. Except the Vapor-X sapphire. If you can get a sapphire, great.

What else can I say Peloche? I'm following the instructions as given and that's what's happening. I'm not the first to have this odd behavior using Pipomolo42's method but he/she never got a resolution to the matter.

Treksdot,

Are you saying you tried the ROM?

On which card?

Did you get rid of the misbehaving XFX?

I tried your linked ROM on my HIS 489F1GP; my card is likely where you got the stock ROM from since I've linked it previously. It had been working just fine with the modified MSI ROM included in Cindori's previous flashing package but if there's a custom made HIS ROM then why not use it instead? I flashed the XFX card back to original ROM and sold it to a friend a couple of weeks ago. I've been warning people against them since.

I just got the Powercolor HD 4890 1GB GDDR5

Installed Natit
Shutdown
Remove old 1900xt, installed new Powercolor in slot
Booted, Blank screen, hard drive seemed to work, and load the OS, then nothing happened.
I shutdown from the button, put the monitor in the different DVI slot, hard drive booted the OS (still blank screen), then went in a loop of rebooting every ~30 sec (could hear chime).

What should i do ?

I tried to flash using the DOS atiflash on the pc. and i got

SSID Mismatched
OLD SSID: 2282
New SSID: 8030

Update: I put the card in my PC, and it works fine, but on my Mac Pro 1.1, still no luck.

Update 3:

Here are pics of the video card

dsc2846.jpg

dsc2845b.jpg

it seems that newegg sent me the wrong card.

Instead of
AX4890 1GBD5-UH they sent me
AX4890 1GBD5-PPH ,

can i make it work with this ?

do all of the output connectors (say, two DVI connectors) work after having flashed the card?

i was able to flash it using

atiflash -p 0 MACROM.ROM -f

but now the card seems to be briked, it doesnt work in either MAC or PC

Mac -> chime, chime, chime loop fast
PC -> no response.

how can i fix this ?

i flashed it using the Sapphire OC rom

Hi Treskdot,

Could you please make available the original rom you've used to get these results, i would like to have a look, if you could md5 it.

Hi kronoss,

You just need to have another graphic (x) card installed on your PC and this one, but monitor connected to the other card (x).

Boot with dos:

atiflash -i to know the number given to your GPU, if you've got only one ATI it should be #0,then

atiflash -ai 0

to be sure that 0 is the one you want to flash

then atiflash -p -fs -fp 0 thename of your original rom

Good luck, don't be afraid i've flashed mine may be 150 times, and sometimes with very bad rom, once nor the pc neither mac started, but it still alive and working well.
