Also, it's weird. The main app shows as "Intel" under Activity Monitor, but the processes for the websites show "Apple". Is this expected?
How odd. It's Apple all the way here.

Wow Edge is so slow compared to Safari, according to Speedometer 2
That's as maybe. Safari hasn't scrolled smoothly for me on a Mac for a long time. Edge is much better and pages load instantly - so that's plenty good enough. I also dislike the way extensions work in Safari and that there aren't many available.

Microsoft Edge (Canary) is now a universal app. This thing flies! I can finally get rid of Google Chrome!
I am running Canary version 89.0.736.0 and Activity Monitor still shows its Intel - can you check what version you are running?

I'm running Edge 89.0.736.0 too. How odd. Mind you, how I got it was odd too. I found out that the MS Office release candidate is now a universal build so went in and turned off insider build. The Microsoft updater app started doing its thing and also updated Edge. That's when I got the Apple Silicon version.

So does this mean that the regular non-insider Universal app is months away since the Beta channel is only updated every 6 weeks?
I have no idea what Microsoft's release plans are, but I bet they'd push the release of a Universal version to an out-of-cycle release rather than stick to the established schedule.

After the Canary version, features come to Beta channel and once it’s stabilized there, it will be available in the general build.

There's the Dev channel between canary and Beta. I'd forgotten about that and have amended my earlier post. Dev is a weekly release, Beta 6 weekly. Hopefully the Apple Silicon version will permeate down through all releases earlier rather than later - it's not offering any new features per se above and beyond the Intel versions after all.

Figured out the edge issue - if you go to the Insider download page now and select Canary you get an option for an Apple Silicon version.

That was it! Made a huge difference. Score went from 88 to 192! It's even faster than Chrome M1 (187). Safari still leads at 219 though. But I may switch to Edge because I can sync between Mac and Android. Will think about it. Safari is so fast..

Anyone has issues with auto-updates of that version? It seems to keep hanging and never completes the updates.

I’ve had that issue with Chrome betas before, and have had to just download/install again. I’d assume Edge would/could have the same issues. I’ve read that sometimes during the beta testing process, it can be easier to just overwrite everything with a new install instead of relying on updates thru an installer when that might be what has a bug. Stuff like that usually always gets corrected for final releases.
