If I could get it to work flawlessly I would love it, but one minute it works then it doesn’t, then after I reboot my iPad it works again, then when I put my iPad to sleep and go to reconnect it, it doesn’t work again until I reboot, bit underwhelming considering its 6 months late than when it was expected to release.

I'm finding it very laggy on my M1 Macbook Air and 6th Gen iPad.
Yeah I had quite a bit of lag then it works fine then it doesn’t work… universal control should have been left for the next MacOS version IMO… it’s been rushed out still in beta due to it being 6 months behind schedule… very disappointed with it as every time I put my Mac/iPad into sleep then wake them to start working on them again it’s a right nightmare to get it all working again, restarting devices, unchecking and rechecking check boxes etc… until it eventually works and then it lags like crazy for about 2-3 minutes then eventually becomes usable. An painfully bad implementation of one of the main software features from WWDC 2021.

When it works it works great but getting it to work is a pain in a$$

ehhh, too laggy and gesture controls on my iPad 11 are not working on the Mac. I've turned the feature off and will re-enable it at the end of the year.

Is anyone having issues connecting more than 2 devices? I have a M1 Max MBP and 3 iPads. But once I try to connect a 3rd iPad it tells me to disconnect one in order to connect to the other one.

All this seems to do is turn on SideCar for me.

I have an M1 Pro MBP with 2 4k monitors - does using external displays break Universal Control, perhaps?

Luckily I don't really need the feature but I was pretty stoked to play with it and am disappointed that I can't seem to get it to work.
Hey there, so on my MBP you go to settings, displays, then at the bottom right, to the left of night shift, it says universal control, click that (its like a button) check the first box "Allow your cursor and keyboard to move between any nearby Mac or iPad" you can also check some of the other options if you'd like. Looks like universal control is still in beta but it started working for me after I did this!

My setup: M1 Pro 14” MBP + 2017 A10X iPad Pro

- scrolling from the MBP trackpad is super smooth and not laggy
- using the keyboard is not laggy, although if you look for it you could notice an extremely small delay compared to the native keyboard experience
- mouse cursor on iPad is jittery (not laggy, I think people confuse lag with stutter), it jumps around instead of moving smoothly (while still being usable), is anybody experiencing this? Is there a relation with the age of the iPad and its old silicon? Are people with M1 iPads getting the absolute best UC experience?

Tried it out between my MBP M1 Max, MBA M1, and iPad Mini 5. Works flawless between the three so far.

I plan on getting an M1 iPad Air or Pro because of this feature.

We now need M2 iPad Pros with Magsafe and a VESA-mounting back thingy for a clean dual monitor setup (Studio Display VESA + iPad Pro 12.9” M2 VESA). The iPad Pro could be used for HDR Youtube that the Studio Display lacks.

I don’t get it! Can anyone explain it to me please? I have it working properly between a MacBook Pro with external display and an iPad, now I need a use case for it, It’s all very clever stuff but I can’t think of a reason to use it! My iPad apps and M1 apps sync their content across the internet, what advantages does anyone have in using a mouse/keyboard combo on an app on a iPad over just using that iPad natively?
What is your use case?

hypothetically it could be cool for my plans
i will have a recording studio in one bedroom with a laptop connected to an external display
i could put a tv in the living room connected to an apple tv that will receive airplay from my laptop in the other room
and then use the ipad to control the laptop output on the tv from the living room while still being able to use the ipad natively.
the real dream is universal control coming to ios to allow me to do that with just my iphone

Working great for me between an M1 iMac and 11” iPad Pro.

To me, it’s just a nice way to interact with my iPad next to my iMac. E.g. have Tweetbot and Reminders over on the iPad where they are always glanceable, and now can just mouse over there and do things without having to reach. Of course it isn’t totally necessary but it is a great convenience thing.

I see what you mean, its convenient. Obviously this be done with using multiple desktops too and sliding between which was my goto beforehand. I guess I may have to wait a while to use some decent movie/dev software on my Mac that necessitates a second screen for notes and the like. Thank you.

I get this I think, you are trying to use your laptop as a media server to your Apple TV. I have to say, on a slightly different note, how disappointing the Apple TV macOS/iOS app is, I load all of my 'home movies' onto my Mac (Apple TV app) with all files held in iCloud, does it sync across all iPad and iOS and Apple TV hardwares? NO IT DOESNT!

It works great except for one thing…Can’t reliably use ctrl, cmd, shift modifier keys on the iPad that is being interacted with on the Mac :/ Initially it works, but stops working after a couple of keystrokes. iMac 2017 + iPad Pro 2021. I use the magic keyboard and Logitech MX mouse on the mac.

Well, that worked about 5 minutes between my Mac mini and iPad mini...

No luck getting it working again.

Interesting that UC is still referred to as a “beta” feature in the macOS setting page.

In my case I am now using a 13" M1 MBP but I previously used a 12.9" IPP in exactly this same way. I run my stock trading/monitoring app on the 13", same app I used on the IPP. Meanwhile, I do research, clip things to Notes, and other "general" tasks on my 16" MBP. I now can use one keyboard and mouse to interact with both. If I see something happening on my "summary page" in the stocks app, I can easily mouse over and click expanded view to see if I need to take some action. Generally I may already have my hand on the mouse so this is virtually just like having one system with 2 monitors. However unlike 2 monitors, if I decide to leave my desk, go to lunch, etc I just grab the 13" and I am good to go.

Now that makes sense to me. Again there were plenty of other ways to do this but this way just adds another layer of convenience. Thank you.

Scrolling on a Logitech mouse with scroll wheel is giving me mixed results depending on the app. In this case, Outlook iOS app, gives me no scrolling. Dragging over a Chrome window into iPad and scrolling works as it should. Still really great overall.
Yep, using a Logitech MX Master 3 here and can't scroll at all on my iPad mini, which is a big shame. Hopefully this gets fixed soon as otherwise this is working really well.

My Mac Mini to iPad works but only when the Mac Mini is on WiFi

Is Mac Mini by ethernet cable not supported?

iPad is on WiFi obviously

Anyone have it working with a Mac on ethernet cable? With WiFi OFF ?

Glad it’s been released to the public! One thing I did notice… I’m unable to use the gestures on my 11 inch iPad Pro Keyboard to control my MacBook. Anyone else having this issue? I’m wondering if Apple disabled this specific feature. Otherwise, loving the new update!

I updated from 12.2.1 on my 2021 MacBook Pro and it's great. I'm using it with an iPad mini 5 but from Mac to iPad, not the other way around.

I updated my 2015 MacBook Pro from Mojave and, unfortunately, Universal Control isn't supported on it. 12.3 seems pretty solid though.

I believe they need to be on the same wifi network.....
