there are people on this thread that clearly cannot read... I'm not even american, english is not my native tongue and yet it amazes me how people really CANNOT READ seriously.

You can't unlock it to work with verizon or sprint because they are CDMA NETWORKS!!!!!!! you can unlock it from sprint or verizon to other GSM carriers like T-MOBILE AT&T, BELL, ROGERS, TELUS, TELCEL, CLARO, O2 VODAPHONE etc etc etc GSM GET IT? GSM

GEEEEEE SSSSSSSSSSSSS MMMMM carriers only!!!!

**** sorry, I just chose two random US carriers LOL cause theirs more US users than Canada users on here. But what I'm trying to use is TELUS and Rogers not Verizon and AT&T. Both Telus and Rogers is GSM.

I'm trying to understand how this unlock is useful for 95% of the people out there. I must be missing something?

I have an iPhone 4S with AT&T and there's a chance I'll have to move to Canada in a few months. If I understand correctly, I can't use this unlock unless (a) I have in my possession the SIM card of whatever carrier I would be using in Canada (say Rogers), and (b) that SIM card is currently signed up with a plan for Rogers?

Slightly different scenario- two of my family members are traveling to Italy in a month. Like above, they can't use this unless they already have a SIM card for some carrier in Italy and a plan?

Right. There is nothing different about your other scenario.

I travel frequently between US and Canada. Will this solution work with only one SIM at at time? Or will it accept the SIM from the original carrier the phone was locked to PLUS the spoofed Canadian SIM?

This is something I'm also interested in knowing!

Also to add to that what if you got your "Spoofed" sim much like OP here I also travel between Canada....one of my iPhone 4S is Locked to Rogers and Currently I use Gevey to run it on AT&T...But my iMessage and FaceTime don't work...so once a person starts using the spoofed sim does the original stop working? I wouldn't think so to being with.....but don't have a jailbreak 4S thats locked currently to test things.....if it dose stop can we jus do a simple "reset network settings"..?

Can someone please test iMessage and FaceTime Activation? that would be great....Thats one problem that we have with Gevey....let me know guys thanks

Did you use SAM to deactivate and then the Gevey + SIM to activate again? That should fix Facetime and iMessage.

so once a person starts using the spoofed sim does the original stop working?

You will have to plug in the iPhone to iTunes the first time with the original SIM installed. Then you can switch freely between them. I'm not sure if you can use a 2nd original SIM though without iTunes activation though.

We're going to have to wait and see on that one. This is unexplored territory. Some have said that once doing this and restoring that the unlock was persistant. Will a new firmware release solve this? Who knows.

All iPhone 4S's with the exception of 5.1 Sprint/Verizon can be unlocked via the Rebel or Gevey. Just check the eBay listing to make sure it's compatible with 5.0.1 or 5.1's baseband. You also probably need to run SAM first to deactivate and then activate with iTunes to get Facetime and iMessage working. I'm not sure if that will enable it for another SIM card that you don't have in your possession yet. The iPhone 4 Gevey for all basebands/firmwares should be out in about a month or even a week if you want to pay $50 instead of waiting for the price drop.

Is this a unlock that still stays after you upgrade?

You need SAM to spoof the activation, so you will have to rejailbreak after every restore/upgrade for the time being. Apple has the ability to patch this with future firmware releases, but I hope they don't address it yet as it's not as universal as the ultrasn0w method.

umm there is no jailbreak for 5.1 so I cannot deactivate....problem is because its Rogers Wireless Locked....when I turn on iMessage it tries to send a message to the shot code 2639 which is setup by Rogers/Telus/Bell as its a Canadian Local Shortcode so that all the iPhone's from the canadian carriers aren't sending the activation text in background to the UK number which Apple has set for all international users. Similar to that AT&T also has a local activation short code for iMessage+Facetime. Problem is with Gevey because you program it based on the "original" carrier when you put in another sim it doesn't change the info on the .plist so it continues to try and send the activation text to the short code in my case the 2639 but because its not a USA short code so it comes back as a invalid number.....hence leaving iMessage+Facetime in "waiting for activation" state as well as the iPhone continues to send messages to 2639(again in my case) which continue to receive "invalid number" replies from AT&T....

NM, I thought you had an iPhone 4. I guess you'll have to use Skype for now

Just change it in the .plist and add your phone number except you need to be jailbroken for that. Run a tethered jailbreak if you have to, but if you're going to that trouble, just run SAM. Tethering isn't that bad if you know how to use a computer and have daily access to one or a power source.

it work on ATT phone on China Unicom

Tried this yesterday, after spending 8 months in China frustrated with an AT&T locked iPhone 4, OS 5.1 and BB 4.12.01.

Used iTunes 10.6.1(7) - latest version as of 4/23/2012 - jailbroke with redSn0w, but this is a tethered jailbreak because of OS 5.1 (people on early OS may be OK with untethered) meaning I have to reboot connected to the computer after a hard reset, and installed cydia as part of redS0w. Downloaded SAM (got error msgs on the download but it worked), tried a couple of times spoofing as per the directions, before it finally worked (i think your SAM and SIM numbers need to be the same).

iTunes never properly said it was activated, but just showed a normal screen when the phone was connected (with the iPhone4 icon and name on the right side), and didn't show the message "your phone can not be activated because it doesn't have a proper SIM in it".

Finally after 3 hrs of download, reading, button pushing, the bars showing signal on China Unicom appeared!!

You need the NEW SIM card to get this to work, you do not need your old AT&T SIM. I already had my AT&T iPhone4 synce to this computer before, so I'm not sure if a brand new unsynced iPhone will work with this hack.

iMessage works, and so does 3G, so I'm pretty happy - especially since it is free.

Best of luck everyone, -I think it is interesting the original hack came from a Chinese netizen- times are a changing, as I can see in the P.R. China.

----------

There is a jailbreak for 5.1 on iPhone 4, you just need to be tethered still, try redsn0w.

----------

Keep trying, it didn't work about 10 times, and then I got it to finally work. Dunno why, the server was up when I checked in the browser, not sure if it'll remain this way.

is there other way to add (repo.bingner.com) to cydia I been try to do that for a week now I keep get a message "verification error"

can you please enlighten us? who the hell said you had to have a plan at all!!!¡???
no dude it can be just a prepaid sim... you can buy a prepaid sim from a carrier and then go to their offices and ask to transfer that prepaid sim to a plan

just buy a carrier sim off ebay, choose an italian carreir lets say (the one you intend to use) take advantage of the loophole, save the lockdownd folder with redsn0w and that's it... whenever you travel just replace your local sim with your international sim you bought off ebay and it'll work, some countries offer prepaid data pay as you go not all use the plan model like in the US

Anyone having issues with the source? I'm adding the source correctly but keep getting a timeout error.

Could the Bingner source be down?

(iPhone 4 5.0.1)

So I have a prepaid SIM Card from Germany that I plan to use next month. I am currently on AT&T, iphone 4s. After going through the process of unlocking the phone for the prepaid SIM Card, can I just pop the AT&T SIM CArd back in and the phone is ready to go again on the AT&T network?

If you are talking about the 7 AT&T sim ID's, I left that unselected, worked for me.
However, after completing all the steps with SAM, I changed manual to AutoDetect and that is how I got this to work.

Yup this is how I had to do it for both of my friends' iPhone 4's. It would never work with the manual settings, only with the Auto Detect.

Well, we know you didn't have 5.1 for 8 months, so part of it is your own fault for updating the fw constanly and you could/can buy a gevey sim/other ones to use other carriers even using iOS 5.1.

You should change to title to "Unlock any JAILBROKEN iPhone"...

On the matter of the topic at hand, this is great news for people that constantly need to travel to the same country and have a SIM card stashed for every time they go on a trip (Can be either prepaid or post SIM card).

If you guys don't have the foreign SIM card since you have not taken your trip, then just buy a Gevey 1.6 or one of the similar ones that can unlock 5.1

perhaps it's the nature of text on the internet...

to defend myself - BB 4.12 was the problem with GEVEY, not OS 5.1.

not everyone has time to keep track of every single change on our iPhone BB OS etc etc.

This unlock fix is FREE, gevey is a third party product that costs money and IMHO a bit more effort, than just sitting in your house and trying this hack.

My post was intended to help those who are trying to unlock, not incite or inflame.
