reported my non responsive issues to Apple, they suggested a clean set up, and not re-installing my old back up at all. WOW it fixed the problem ........ for 2 days, now its back, and getting worse each day.

Just had a 'chat' session, the next stage is to replace the unit. Cant get an appointment until next Sunday, so will wait until then.

Definitely a hardware issue.

Just curious, others who have this problem, is it with the wifi model or wifi/cellular? Mine is iPad Pro 12.9 3rd generation - wifi only.

Do some of you have a smart keyboard? Some no keyboard at all?

Since my ASK died I placed a piece of tape over the contacts and use it as a cover and have had no touchscreen issues for a few days now.

[Edit] Heh . . as expected, just another placebo thing. Issues returned confirming that my ASK and touchscreen issues are completely unrelated.

Why then people (me included) experience the same problem right after software reset? It is true that screen starts to become unresponsive after some time. But after it became unresponsive the first time the problem "sticks" to the iPad. It looks like a failed hardware component.

Failed hardware component which is fixed by reinstalling os? If your is doing it all the time, then it is a hardware failure... but if you read the whole thread you see that the typical phenomenom is that the screen becomes unresponsive after sime time, then only reinstalling os helps and the ipad works fine until it start again after weeks. If it is a failed hardware, it isnt fixed by reinstalling os.

Mine used to be very bad - missing letters when writing etc. now after the latest ios updates i have zero problem when it happened daily earlier.

It is more or less software related hardware issue.

Man, my 1st gen 12.9 ipp continues to be a great purchase. 3.5 years in, still runs like a champ.

Oh good old Apple! I think after year 2013 the quality of their products really started going nowhere. I have MacBook Pro 2013, no keyboard problems, perfect screen, MagSafe adaptor, battery is great. I sold my 1st gen iPad to my friend years ago and he's still using it in the video production! Since then I changed 3 iPads all had problems. (I suspect one of those was Apple slowing down the iOS to make you upgrade, but anyway). Now the recent one with unresponsive screen is just the worst of them all.

My 2017 IPP 12.7" has had this issue for more than a year. Might try the beta angle to see if it makes a difference. My 2018 9.7" iPad does not have this issue and is my preferred iPad, to the point where I barely use the pro. Thought about selling the pro and either getting the 2019 air or just live with the 9.7 which, for my needs, is an awesome device.

How unfortunate because it would be a great iPad otherwise.

The Mini 5 has this issue as well?

I own a 11 inch iPad Pro 2018 and the right side in portrait mode is often unresponsive while scrolling. It truly is annoying. Should I exchange or wait for a software fix? It seems to come and go, so I would think it is software related...

quick update, Unit was replaced with a remanufactured unit ( I said refurbished, Genius said noooooooo, its remanufactured!). Noticed it only had 5%battery left on it.

Took it home (still wrapped in plastic covering), plugged it in to the computer, started to set it up as new (of course it needs a software update), then I ran my finger around the edge, and noticed a piece of metal missing from the bottom corner - quite sharp.

Anyway, went straight back to the Apple shop, and now there is no replacement stock - need to wait until a new replacement (another remanufactured unit) arrives, so should be there by the end of the week.

They kindly offered me to take the damaged one home and set it up, and still use it until other one comes in. I politely declined this as 1. it was damaged and could cut me. 2. what's the point of spending time to set up new one only having to do it again when the next one arrives.

oh well, and so it goes on

Ugh. That sucks. Maybe you should write a polite letter to Tim Cook? That’s not a refurb, it should have been used for spare parts.

So the iPhone X has this issue too? And Apple already acknowledged the problem? Then why are we still waiting 6+ months??

For me the issue used to be related to in application swipes only and other things, such as system swipes (drag from bottom for task switching, drag from top for control panel etc) and keyboard worked OK. Now for some time, app swipes are OK, but system swipes and keyboard became really erratic...

All fixing methods described here have not worked or worked for a while only.

I always setup my new Apple devices at the Apple store just in case there is a problem.

I think iOS 12.3 fixed the issue for me! I have an 11 inch iPad Pro and had the issue for weeks, thought about repairing, but now its gone!

12.3 didn’t fix anything on my end. As always with iOS updates it looked like it was working for a while but after 15-20 mins iPad became unresponsive again (screen heating up? I started rotating it more? Using more fingers? Put on statically charged surface? Only theories, until Apple fixes their manufacturing and admits the issue).

I updated my iPad Pro 11 to iOS 12.3 but yet the issue is not fixed!

I think its a software issue, since force restarting the iPad is fixing the issue temporarily! Once I force restart my iPad its only fixed for a few hours before the issue re-appearing.

It always returns when you do a factory reset, that makes me think it's a hardware problem, unfortunately :(

Hmm I have to correct my statement, the error has returned for me as well. Is Apple aware of this problem? This really makes using the iPad a slog...

The best way to reach out to apple is using the feedback through Apples Official website!

https://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html

Please send your feedback to Apple & let them know, the more we send the more the designated team will be come aware off this issue.

I used to have the iPad Pro 10.5” & it was working great until I updated it to iOS 12 & the issue started to appear, to be honest I thought my iPad was the issue, then upgraded to iPad Pro 11” in February after about 3 months & the issue started to be again, the only way to stop temporarily is by doing a hard restart/ reboot!

I reported the issue and included a link to this thread. I hope they are investigating this. I am quite sure this is software-related...
