Anyone seeing major improvements after updating to 12.4 beta 2? Regularly had issues with touch but it’s been fine for like 2 weeks now.

Since 12.3, I have been running the latest beta version and still experience the same issue.
I have never felt so disgruntled in my life.

At least the issue showed up in the conference today, I hope it will hit there iPads as well.

Maybe I have found a reason for the unresponsiveness: Due to the special coating, my screen most of the time looks like a total mess of fingerprints. The coating on the newest iPad Pro 11 really sucks, it always looks so dirty after a few uses, and I clean my hands regularly. Anyway, after a cleaning it up with a cloth, which makes it look like new, the issues seem to have gone away again. Maybe the oils on the screen get the touch screen confused, which makes sense because it feels like always the places stop working that you use the most.

Tried to clean up screen many times and it did help... for some time. My theory is that when you clean it and apply the pressure to the screen you fix up loose glue or maybe a loose connection of the screen to motherboard that results in unresponsive touch.

I want to believe that it's not Apple's manufacturing problem, but a year of tries and different solutions that never work in the end (not just for me) convince me that it is Apple's manufacturing problem. Unfortunately unresponsiveness comes back after a while no matter what. I think if it was problem with fingertips it would have affected almost everybody but it doesn't.

This is so depressing; it simply means no firmware update would solve such a thing (iPadOS). I am trying to learn a pattern of use or certain gesture of which the unresponsiveness might go away upon doing it (like shaking iPad or so), but it seems that the problem is much more sophisticated to be solved upon shaking the iPad. This device costed us a lot of money and stressful time; while Tim keeps bragging about vague customer satisfaction figures to trap even more people.

Yesterday my replacement unit Touch Screen responsiveness was so bad, it keep on failing.... I restarted the device and now it is normal for the time being... I seriously don’t think the device will able to last beyond the 1 year mark... the device is too expensive for suffering from this kind of problem... purchasing the new redesign iPad Pro turn out to be the worst purchase I ever made....

I used to have it with 11.0, then apple replaced it and it went away. Then my second unit started doing it again recently, around 11.2.
There are many discussions online about this problem, including in the iFixit forums. Seems to be hardware.

Exact same thing for me. They replaced the unit and the second one started doing the exact same thing after 6 months.

Update: my 12.9 was replaced. I asked the store team member if the notes on the system said what was wrong with the original device. All it said was that they had activated my iPad as a new device, been able to reproduce the error, and the hardware was free from any indications of damage. So it was replaced.

Just restoring it from back up now...

Just a word of warning. They replaced my unit too and the problem came back (in the new ipad) 6 months later.

I’ll keep going in for replacement units until I see the iPad working as it should, there’s not a hope in hell I’m paying £1500 for a device that does not work properly!

I’m not letting Apple away on this one and I’ll be back time after time!

I have the first gen 12.9” iPad Pro, and over the past two months my iPad has also increasingly stopped registering touch input. It’s gotten pretty bad now to the point where it’s becoming more of a nuisance than a pleasure to use.

Is it mostly 2nd gen iPad pros affected by this though, or also 1st gen devices?

I think 1st gen is included, but just because of how many more people jumped in on the 2nd gen with the inclusion of 10.5, you'll see more reports about it.

Dealing with iPad touch problems for more than a year and reading all available forums, Amazon, Youtube and iFixit threads I noticed that all iPads are affected including normals, minis and 1st, 2nd and 3rd gen (2018) Pros.

Somebody needs to sue Apple out of business so these problems to fixed!

One of the wealthiest companies in the world with one of the highest customer sat. scores (based on various independent surveys)? Good luck.

Hey, don't get me wrong, my 12.9" 2nd Gen. is practically unusable some days and I'd love to see Apple issue an extended warranty program for it, but I also have to accept the fact that while this is an issue, it very clearly is not the majority of devices. The best way to combat this is to vote with your wallet; it's what I did. I've replaced my iPad with a Lenovo and Surface.

Any place but here or there....
Repost from another thread: Heat is an issue that Apple is aware of (Whether or not this causes touch irresponsiveness for everyone is Unknown). I can say the symptom is exactly what happened with my 2017 12.9 and the 2019 iPad Mini before touch irresponsiveness started.

If your iPad Pro (or other type of iPad) gets excessively hot in one area, Apple has acknowledged this flaw and replaces them:

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/ipad-pro-left-side-heat.2186790/

Every iPad Pro, 2018 iPad and the 2019 Mini I’ve tried or own (just 2018 iPad now) has had this issue before the touch irresponsiveness starts.

In fact, it happened again today after long Twitter session (using website Twitter not the app), and appeared in Procreate.

I have to wait to do anything until early July, but I will probably take my 2018 iPad in and see if I can get a new one.

I just wanted to post this here in case other owners notice this issue before the touch irresponsiveness starts.

I have just got rid of my iPad Pro 2nd gen (a replacement already) by selling it.

Yesterday I decided to give it one last shot by installing iPadOS (iOS 13) and it was the same sh*t.

Although I have sold it exactly for 50% cheaper than its original price (it was 256GB - 4G with Pencil), I am not regretting it at all.

Now I will start looking at the 10.5 3rd gen pro and see whether there are any complaints about it.

I am still waiting for the Karma to hit Apple's developers for this faulty product that wasted my money.

I'm switching to Surface device anytime soon. Apple doesn't address their hardware problems, while Microsoft does.

P.S. Yeah I know this forum is all about love for Apple. But I don't have any left! My iPhone 7 was replaced 3 times (screen not working). I'm ready to replace my iPhone XR which developed speaker problem. I tried MacBook Pro 2017 that died in a week due to keyboard failure. iPad Pro... you know the story. I live literally next to Apple's offices in USA. They can't make it work even for the area around them. What love?

Your experiences sound just a little worse than my own. FWIW, I've been using a Surface Go for a couple months now and love it. It's a great little device and if it holds up well I could see myself buying a Surface Pro in the future. There are rumours that Microsoft will be updating its Surface line this fall; so if you can wait, I'd recommend it as you'll get newer hardware.

If you mean 11”, yes there are touch disease complaints (at least one thread in this sub forum). Ditto for the 2nd gen 10.5 iPP.

I feel you, I took a $1k wash on my 2017 12.9. I hope Apple fixes the heat issues with the fourth gen and every other iPad going forward.

Well about 3 months ago I had my 2017 12.9 (512GB cellular) Pro replaced for touch issues. Replacement came with ios10 so I was enjoying having that again. Touch issues started happening again, so I upgraded to ios12 again. Seemed fine for a couple of days, but then the issues started happening again.

Just took it to the Applestore again and they will replace it again. 512GB cellular model must not be common as they have to order the replacement in again.

Been fairly frustrated by this iPP. Used the 1st gen 12.9 for like two years without any problems before switching to this one and my 9.7 iPP is also working fine without any issues.

Still have 2 months or so left on AppleCare, but think I will sell this off in case issues pop up again after my warranty ends.
Looks like I'll stick with my 9.7 iPP (128GB Cellular model) for now and maybe look for a new one again if they release new models later this year.

Can I just ask about the Warranty in the UK

If you have a 6 month old iPad Pro 11 replaced with a refurb, do you have an extra 3 months telephone support added

Or does this not exist and never has

I remember a few years ago when you received a refurb there was people selling, when they go their refurb back, because there was something added for the first 3 months which is why people purchased them

Maybe I’m get confused with iPhone or ....
