Has this file changed since 10.15.4? If anyone here running a pre-10.15.5 version of Catalina can please post their version of the file then that would be interesting to compare with.

Well I added the file back in, with the correct permissions and user, and compared to other plists. I restated, and now I am getting tons of the termination due to SIGKILL entries in the log.

I have noticed that the Activity Monitor on my mid 2015 Macbook Pro no longer functions properly. It lists the tab items but not the data that belongs. Here is a snippet shot

What the ****... is this still happening on macOS 10.15.5???
This bug is present since the earlier builds of Catalina, since the first betas... and I’ve asked them to fix it repeatedly. I can‘t believe we’re almost at the end of the Catalina cycle and they didn’t fix this.

Can you try the following:
  1. Quit Activity Monitor.
  2. Delete the following file: ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.ActivityMonitor.plist
Does this fix the issue?

Can you clarify on what you did to fix it. I don't exactly follow what was done to fix it.
I deleted the mdworker.shared plist from /System/Library/LaunchAgents. You can either do this by turning off SIP, or directly in recovery mode after mounting the system disk. Do take a copy before deleting.

Note that mdworker handles Spotlight indexing – according to various sources – and removing this services hasn't affected my Spotlight – though it might affect yours: who knows? mdworker still runs regardless and does its indexing thing.

Without mdworker, your Spotlight index probably won't update.
DESCRIPTION

mdworker is the metadata server worker process. It is used by mds to scan and index files as a volume

is mounted or a file changes.

As nice as it would be to stop some of these infinitely repeated messages in the console log, messing with system plist files really is something I think I will avoid right now.

com.apple.mdworker.shared.plist is identical in 10.15.4 and 10.15.5, but /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Frameworks/Metadata.framework/Versions/A/Support/mdworker_shared has been updated
Without mdworker, your Spotlight index probably won't update.
There is a difference between mdworker and mdworker_shared, take a look in Activity Monitor. mdworker spotlight works even if com.apple.mdworker.shared.plist is disabled.

First OS that I had to go back to the previous version in my 10 or so years with OS X and macOS. I am usually positive about updates and understand that things need to be worked out...but I am very surprised that this late in the game (with the next version coming soon to start all over again) there is still some obvious issues at .5

If the next version is the gold version .6 and it is final with issues still not resolved...then macOS Catalina will have to be an OS that is shelf and is categorized as a "Nice attempt" OS and left at that. Yes, people say that it works for them, but I have only noticed that it "works" with just casual internet surfing and MS Office type of activity. This is from my wife's usage (she has no problems) and my own usage on a basic system.

But if you do any processing (15" i9 MacBook Pro 2018 (maxed) and Mac Pro 2013 12-core for work (and I work with Final Cut Pro X, Logic Pro X, Motion etc.) there are still issues and macOS Mojave overall is still better.

Very disappointing.

or you could have looked into troubleshooting... i use logic X and FCPX (mostly, logic) on my imac, and am getting all my work done without issue.

your experience is not everyone's, and resolving an issue is usually a reasonable alternative to reverting to a previous OS.

Have you noticed that when you check in Activity monitor and check GPU and CPU usage that in macOS Catalina it throttles down both GPUs and CPU, but in macOS Mojave it uses all of the GPU (both dual)?

I use a 12-Core.

You shouldn't have delete it. If the problem was fixed in another way, you could have moved it back.
I just made a topic about this

my MacBook is going crazy with this MDS PROCESS

at different times they're just going crazy

each one is losing its mind

MDS and also MDS_STORES are showing up to 400% CPU usage.
I also get a cluster of like 8 MDS_WORKER_SHARED processes.

Very minor use of the 2019 MacBook Pro 16 inch and it goes crazy every 15-20 minutes

anyone have any ideas how to fix this? Ive been looking at spotlight and why im getting this all the time and I can't figure it out.

I also reset the SMC

What devices do you have attached to your MacBook Pro? If you detach all of them and just use the computer as a straight laptop do you still see the issue? Have you installed 10.15.6 yet?

This is safe. Update to 10.15.6. This one is the newest and probably lates Catalina update cause Apple will focus on Big Sur now.

this just happened ...its happening on que every like 15 minutes

My suggestion is to create a new Container partition on your internal drive, clean install Catalina 10.15.6 to the new Container, restart to the clean Catalina install, don't install any third party software and see if you have the same issue.

Does the 10.15.6 update fix the mdworker.shared killed messages in the system log which 10.15.5 introduced?

I see those messages but I don’t see any effect and the CPU usages from the mdworker is < 1%. So no system impact as far as I can tell.
