Right but it’s not satellite view. Airplane or drone most likely.

Right..but any true 3D “satellite” view in Apple Maps is considered flyover. Airplane Lidar view.

Even the London Eye view is satellite in 2D mode (true everywhere actually)

Changing the perspective either gives you true 3D (flyover) or angled view of the satellite image (flattened 2D)

They’ve covered quite a bit (including my small neighborhood).

It’s interesting how some major cities like Salt Lake City doesn’t have flyover yet.

Judging by the Apple Maps vehicle/pedestrian research coverage for the first six months of 2019, it looks like Alaska, Alabama, Tennessee, Florida, and the rest of Nevada will be next to receive the updated maps. With additional vehicles re-traversing existing coverage areas like California, Hawaii, and Arizona.

I wish Apple would fix how they deal with businesses and landmarks in the UK. It is not a big issue in cities and towns as most businesses have a number and street name. However, out in the countryside quite often, Apple Maps will show the correct location of the business, but when you go to navigate it will just navigate to the road name, which is not very accurate. So I usually have to drop a pin next to the business and navigate to that, why not just navigate to where the business is pinned? Google Maps does not have the same issue. It is pretty much one of my only complaints about Apple Maps, and it is these little annoyances that send people straight to Google Maps.

They have the same issue in some parts of the US as well.

I’ve noticed that it is fixed where I came across it in the past.

It happens when the address data received from the third party they are using is inaccurate or, at most, only has the road name, so it defaults to a random spot on the road.

Now that they control POI data (for the most part) the “address” will only be one part of how they route you to the business.

I was able to have them fix more than a couple of these in CA when I was there as I noted in this thread and have even had some corrected in other spots where the new Maps hasn't been fully implemented.

Okay, my bad. Apparently, Apple Maps vehicles have already touched the vast majority of the country over the past three years, and it's only these last three states that they'll be visiting over the next few months. Which means the rollout could continue with almost any state at this point.

Maybe...they’re already hitting states already launched for a second time. I would hate to think they are prioritizing g some states that low as to not even have hit them with a first pass yet...sucks for those loving there and wanting the new Maps.

I still think the data collection portion layer can help, even with older layers on there. That’s the whole point of the new data collection method. It will help fix errors/true road paths even without an Apple van constantly visiting.

We’ll see soon I think.

The London Eye rotates on Flyover view also.

That is SO COOL...I just tried it, and WOW. but then on a whim, I wondered if there was anything else animated that I could spot...how about Big Ben clock (Elizabeth Tower) ? And what do you know...it’s keeping accurate time !!! Cool Easter egg for sure.

Hmm...Apple Maps started acting funky today on Apple CarPlay. The voice guidance randomly decides to stop speaking to me, the zoom acts a little weird, and street name bubbles aren't showing up. It's been happening all day. I tried rebooting my phone, but it didn't do anything.

I wonder if Apple quietly pushed through some sort of update that caused some bugs.

EVENING UPDATE:

The voice guidance seems to be working again, but the street name bubbles are still missing, as are Interstate shields.

Again, this only seems to affect guidance mode in Apple CarPlay. Everything looks the same on my phone.

Wow, great find! Never would have expected animation of any kind in Maps.

I went to Apple Support, and they asked me to see if Apple Maps was working properly *not* in CarPlay. So I used just my phone to navigate to dinner yesterday, and it was hard to say for sure. It looked like it was better on my phone, but was still missing many labels.

I used Maps on CarPlay to drive to work last night, and noticed that the label bubbles *were* showing, but only while driving on a major highway. Once I hit local streets, they all disappeared. In addition, the label of the road I'm driving on still acts funky and doesn't always show properly.

So I followed Apple Support's next suggestion, which was to completely delete Apple Maps and reinstall it. I did, and I'll see how it behaves tonight.

Well, it wasn't like Apple Maps wasn't working. It was just...off. The road labels weren't appearing, and Siri was announcing turns a bit too early, or not at all. I took some screenshots. In two of them, you can see the road labels (white and blue bubbles) just fine, and in the other two, there are no labels at all.

But it seems like everything is okay now.

Dammit...I'm experiencing those Apple Maps bugs again. The road label bubbles are gone again. The same thing is occurring on the phone itself, and not just on Apple CarPlay, as I previously believed.

Is anyone else experiencing the same thing while navigating?

Ran into something like this when I did a weekend trip out here on the left coast.

Ventura Cali to Morro Bay to Ragged point to Salmon Creek Falls. I had attributed it to weak connections which Google Maps handled much better than Apple Maps. (was test comparing both) However, portions of it are remarkedly similar to your experience.

I have not attempted to repeat the experience. Just went back to Google Maps.

Hmm...I wonder if that's a clue. Come to think of it, when these bugs are occurring, if I'm looking at the map in general with no route established, my exact position seems to be a bit jumpy...almost like Apple Maps is having trouble pinpointing my exact location.

Now, I live in New York City. Cell coverage is nearly perfect everywhere. I'm seeing maximum strength signal bars as I drive, and I'm not experiencing any issues with Google Maps or Waze, so I don't think it's my phone. I'm still convinced (for now) that Apple is in high gear making improvements and updates to Apple Maps in the background, and it's occasionally causing these bugs for me. I can't imagine why else it would be "bad" for a week, work perfectly for a week, and then go bad again.
