Hmm...I wonder if that's a clue. Come to think of it, when these bugs are occurring, if I'm looking at the map in general with no route established, my exact position seems to be a bit jumpy...almost like Apple Maps is having trouble pinpointing my exact location.

Now, I live in New York City. Cell coverage is nearly perfect everywhere. I'm seeing maximum strength signal bars as I drive, and I'm not experiencing any issues with Google Maps or Waze, so I don't think it's my phone. I'm still convinced (for now) that Apple is in high gear making improvements and updates to Apple Maps in the background, and it's occasionally causing these bugs for me. I can't imagine why else it would be "bad" for a week, work perfectly for a week, and then go bad again.
Perhaps, but NYC is death on location aware apps, generally. Trying to use Maps or Google Maps coming out of a subway is always a challenge, particularly in Manhattan, due to the obvious large structures blocking some or all of the GPB constellation and the huge number of wifi hotspots and cell towers that have to be processed to triangulate your location.

Good thing I know where I’m going...or if I don’t, I look at the map first to see before leaving.

Listening to it trying to tell me where to walk when I trekked the 12 blocks to Hudson Yards and back this morning was hilarious.

Beacons need to be installed on every street corner.

Hmmm. I'm also noticing that during these times when Apple Maps is acting funky, the marker on the map that shows me where I parked my car is a bit off. It's usually quite accurate.

How was Hudson Yards? I've been by several times during construction but haven't been down in 6 weeks or so.

That could be Apple. Or the Air Force (GPS accuracy) or the cell carriers. Hard to isolate.

I noticed this morning that I have also lost the new maps updates for New Mexico, Arizona, and southern Nevada. The updates for California are still present, though.

Maybe this is related to the other issues I'm experiencing.

Just looked and I also have lost the visual updates for Az on both 12.1.4 and 12.2.2 B6. I still have it for SoCal for both versions.
If this is Apple's doing as part and parcel of their update / upgrade process I wish they would let us know. :confused:o_O

I never had them...so...I’d love to know how it is determined who sees it and when.

Maybe random users are selected for "unofficial rollouts" for testing purposes. I remember I once got access to a Google Maps update that wasn't public yet. I had it for two days, and then lost it. Everyone else got it a month or so later.

Perhaps this "give and take" of changes is why I'm currently experiencing bugs. I'll keep an eye on things, and let you know if everything else improves once those Southwest updates come back.

I got the new data on my phone this morning in Australia. So if it hasn’t been rolled out to all devices yet it must be getting pretty close.

It seems the updates are "official" for everyone now. Even Apple Maps on DuckDuckGo has the updates for Arizona, New Mexico, and Southern Nevada.

I'm sure my Maps app will fix itself any day now....

Seemingly not for NYC. This is the Washington Square Arch.

Well...New York City hasn't officially been updated yet. Manhattan and a small part of Brooklyn and the Bronx have the added details when in Navigation mode, but not the main map itself.

Not to nitpick, but I don’t think any of these updates are “official “ as of yet. But your point is well taken.

Sure they are...update was announced/explained...they said it would roll out this year.

I’m sure once the rollout is complete (or at least 90% there), Apple will do another announcement about all of the improvements.

September...iOS 13...

Is iOS 12.2 coming out any time soon?

I'm noticing a pattern with my "issues". The common thread here is that, as the days progress, it slowly gets better and better until it finally goes back to normal.

I visited a friend who also has an iPhone, and his Maps app was experiencing the same minor glitch as me. So I'm glad it's not just my phone. I bet by Monday I'll be back to normal.

Next week when new AirPods are available.

They were “announced” in a magazine interview. I don’t consider that an announcement, at least not the Apple way. This is way too big a deal for them not to make it a major announcement with lots of time at a keynote.

I would call what we’ve seen a “beta” of what is to come; a proof of concept. I suspect they will turn on most of the rest of the US at one time, likely with iOS 13 in September or when they announce the Glasses (to highlight AR aspects of Maps).

Almost certainly 12.2 will be released tomorrow.

Agreed.... although, I’m sure they’re pretty gun shy about announcing anything officially with Maps…

It talks about these updates on the Maps website.

"A new foundation for Maps.
Maps is being rebuilt from the ground up to better reflect the world around you. The new underlying map uses Apple data and features enhanced geographic context like pedestrian paths and parks, more detailed building outlines and parking lots, better road network coverage, and more. You’ll also be able to get where you’re going with improved routes, whether you’re on the road or on foot. The new Maps is now available in Northern California and is coming soon to the rest of the United States."

I'd say that's pretty official.

I think his point is that they had every opportunity to talk about it in September and they didn’t.

Again...I wouldn’t either...just make it better and announce it AFTER it’s been working well.
