Things routing fine in Florida...although, not sure there’s going to be much of a change in Alligator Alley.

My biggest issue is not a Maps issue, but a UConnect issue with the rental car. A known issue I’ve experienced in the past. Car default compass location overrides Maps in CarPlay and says your where the car was first set up. Can take 5-10 minutes to update. A real pain when you have no idea where you are driving

Yeah...I’m NOT in SE Tennessee....

Apple Maps needs to do better with its information on road closures. Google Maps seems to have that down pat.

Drove up to Bronxville in Westchester County for dinner with family yesterday. Normally, the best route from Queens is to take the Hutchinson River Parkway all the way up to the Cross County Parkway, but Apple Maps insisted I take the Cross Bronx Expressway to the Bronx River Parkway, due to some construction congestion on the Hutch. It worked out just fine, as the Cross Bronx was moving well.

Coming home from dinner much later, Apple Maps told me to take the Cross County Parkway to the Hutchinson River Parkway, as I would normally expect. But construction on the drawbridge behind Co-op City had all southbound lanes closed, and it was backed up for two miles. Apple Maps initially only showed a very minor delay up to the drawbridge. As I sat there for 40 minutes, it slowly got redder and redder. The northbound lanes eventually reopened, but they had trouble with the gates on the southbound side, so it remained closed. We all had to funnel off onto the Orchard Beach/City Island exit, and go around via the Pelham Bridge.

When I got home, Apple Maps was still showing just heavy traffic in the area, but Google Maps was actually showing a road closure there. If I was using Waze, I could've at least populated a closure there.
Never take the Hutch on a Sunday ;-)

Words to live by!
OK, off topic but maybe you guys know. I'm like a kid with construction and always trying to figure out what they are building....so, what's going on with the Harlem River Drive? Are they making it two levels, adding a ramp from the RFK bridge directly to the HRD? Its been under construction for like four years. And yesterday, I saw them building a new ramp to the GWB from Harlem (I guess). You can see it when you curve up from the WSH to the lower level. Is there going to be more of a merge? Its crazy busy now!

So weird...while reading these latest posts, got an email from the Apple Maps team asking for clarification about the corrections I made to the Philly Airport last Wednesday.

I assumed an indoor map at an airport would either be ignored or have to be reviewed with the airport.

One can only hope about the direct access to the HRD. The 125th St intersection is a nightmare...

That was the plan...connect the Triborough Bridge directly to the northbound Harlem River Drive.

Another email from Apple Maps today accepting my additional clarification at the Philly airport indoor map. Correction made and should hit in the next 24-48 hours. :)

They do a lot of these notifications at night, I've noticed....

No new updates to anything recently, as far as I can see. Although I noticed the update to iOS 12.2 adjusted the size of some of the boxes you select things from when using Apple Maps on Apple CarPlay.

Noticed on my car i can now select alternative routes by touching them on the car display which i couldnt do previously. To choose an alternative route before i either had to do it on the phone or to do it on the car display you had to end the route, choose the destination again and use the more routes option to flick between them. Now you can bring up the overall route on the car display and touch on the time difference bubble and it chooses the route.

I’m really hoping the new Apple Maps comes to Oregon in the next set of updates! You would think they’d just finish the whole West Coast first... hmm

Maybe Alligator Alley isn’t the best place to test Maps....

Seriously though, prompt timing all seems to be back to normal, no issues with labels, route options were there, arrival estimate was perfect!

That's a hell of a drive. So far into the middle of nowhere, that I can't tell if the map is zoomed out or not. lol

I'd say it's likely they will finish off Nevada, and include Arizona, Colorado, Oregon, etc. in the next update. Just a guess.

Although the East Coast needs some love, too. Come on, New York City....

Arizona is already completed by the looks of my map. I hope you’re right about Oregon though!

My buddy was just in CA visiting from Utah and was amazed by how Apple Maps looked compared to Utah. Hoping it goes there too!

I’d imagine it would come to NY sooner rather than later because it’s one of the biggest cities. Lots of people live there!

After some careful observation, I think I've spotted a few more minor changes with iOS 12.2. Bus stops are no longer visible on the main map, and can now only be viewed on the transit map. 3D buildings are a bit more defined during the day map, and in fact, the day map in general looks a bit better. I always preferred the night map for its deep blue hues, and the 3D buildings used to appear too bleached out on the day map, especially when Maps switches to a top-down view approaching turns.

In addition, while driving on highways (at standard highway zoom level), local roads are more visible and better defined. They used to almost fade into nothingness.

I definitely noticed the highways looks a bit brighter

Every day I seem to notice something better...wish I had enough forethought to take screenshots every day of certain areas.

Seems as though, outside of the main visual changes seen in the new Map areas, Apple is slowing introducing other minor changes.

Guessing there will be some sort of update announcement showing old versus new at some point. I really hope this is an iOS13 thing. Only a couple of months away. If not, maybe they are so gun shy, it will just stay on this steady rollout wiht another article showcasing it in action. Wouldn't blame them for never talking about Maps again until there is some third part analysis about how much "better" it is than other map options (assuming that day comes at some point...hah).

When will this be in Chicago area? Is there a schedule or is this just quietly happening?

I really expect to see a US-wide rollout of this by the time iOS 13 is released in September, if not before.

Do we know if Apple has finished gathering the additional map data needed for the new maps?
