Wow...something I used to never trust Maps for; road closures.

Entrance to highway I would normally take was open last night but closed today for construction.

When I was leaving my house, was confused as to why Maps was taking me to a completely different highway entrance in the opposite direction.

Would love to know if this was a scheduled closure or if they knew from some other source.

My trust just builds more and more every day.

Apple Maps needs to get better with traffic flow on local roads. Maps is showing no traffic at all in the downtown Flushing area, while Google Maps is showing post-rush hour gridlock, as always.

Oh...another thing that Maps needs to do that isn't mentioned enough, make it available on all computer platforms, not just Mac!!

Maps is one of those things that benefits from as many users as possible (like iTunes, AppleMusic, etc.) versus iMessage, FindMyFriends, iCloud, etc. that keep you in the Apple family of hardware products (for the most part).

They really need to get it out there to help speed up improvements related to their new "use it to improve it" mapping structure.

Totally agreed! Imagine how much more data they could gather by having it available for Android. Plus, if user experience is good enough, it might drive some more people over to the hardware.

I was thinking more about windows computers...but, sure.

They do have https://mapsconnect.apple.com where you can at least add/make corrections to your business, but it is really just a database with small images pulled from Maps. Would love the full "Mac" experience available to route, make corrections, etc.

Just to confirm as of today April 15, 2019. New Maps areas:

* Hawaii
* California
* Arizona
* New Mexico
* Las Vegas regional area

Not sure how to get a mod to make a sticky for the beginning of this thread so we can keep it updated as changes are implemented (make it like a Wiki page where anyone can access the post).

I think the OP can edit this to make it a Wiki. Otherwise, we may want to start a new thread for keeping track of the changes.

How can you tell which areas have been updated?

The color of the main area is slightly darker. Other natural details like waterways, forest area, etc that has more detail in the new Maps just stop.

You can see the “border” between old and new near Las Vegas (hard to see elsewhere since the state lines are there). Look where the word Mesquite starts on the right hand side and see the border going across to the left.

Speaking of updates, I was wondering...does anyone remember the date of the original Northern California rollout? Followed by the rest of California? Followed by Arizona, New Mexico, Hawaii, and Southern Nevada?

I'm trying to figure out if there's a pattern in the length of time between rollouts. I think we're due....

first rollout should be tied to one week after the article came out...third or fourth beta? Actually...I'm sure if you go through all 20 pages on here, you'll see. If I have time later, I'll take a look and add to the first post.

I just took a look around the forums, and this is what it looks like. Feel free to verify and correct:

July 3rd, 2018: Northern California
Early November, 2018: Hawaii
January 2nd, 2019: Southern California
February 27th, 2019: Las Vegas, New Mexico, and Arizona

Sprinkled throughout those are people reporting updates only in navigation mode, so it seems like we should expect New York in the near future.

Was just checking the Apple Van page and it looks like they are wrapping up the US...almost exclusively in the Southeast (Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, South Carolina), and then Alaska is all that is listed for May-July.

I'm sure they will add more if needed, but I think those were the remaining states if I remember correctly.

Pedestrian mapping is following the same release pattern as Maps...Honolulu, CA, Arizona, Las Vegas.... Probably expanding that after it is implemented there and tested.

Oh...and also Apple vans in Spain, UK, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Malta, Puerto Rico, Portugal, and San Marino

So...I started updating the first post this morning to an easier to read format where any notable changes, errors, etc. can be added. I only started it and it is definitely not a complete list by any means.

Since we all probably expect more changes to start coming quicker and more frequently, I thought this would be a good place to collate everything. It's a Wiki, so please feel free to adjust/edit.

My hope is that with over 50k views, maybe this post moves up as a sticky on the iOS12 page instead of as a regular thread.

Thanks for all the updates. Very useful to have in a consolidated post like that. Would it be possible to list the States/Regions alphabetically? I think that might make more sense than by date, and would be easier to parse once the list grows.

I don't seem to have the ability to edit it, or I can't figure out how to. :)

Yep...good idea...changing now.

Editing any post is typically only allowed if you have reached a certain number of posts on MacRumors, so I'm guessing that may be the issue (yep...you're still a "newbie")

Cool, thanks. I guess lurking on this site for 9 years isn't enough to get me editing permissions. LOL
