It sleeps when I close the lid, however only 'sleep to RAM'. Not 'sleep to disk'.
Hmm, as i know, is sleep mode only RAM still power on, now disk. And this is the difference between Sleep and Hibernate. In hibernate mode RAM data is saved to ssd and power off.
So, what about battery in this mode?

See post #2732

Edit: sorry, missed that question: SSD is a Crucial P1 1 TB

ok I just installed High Sierra 10.13.6 on my rMBP 2013, Apple SSD.
Now the BootROM is MBP112.0146.B00

Is my BootROM fully upgraded to use a Toshiba XG5 now or should I also install Mojave?
I read that Mojave uses the same EFI than last High Sierra. Well I hope it will work now...

Thanks, this thread rocks xD
My MacBook pro late 2013 13" 11,1 is running bootrom 149.0.0.0.0 after updating to 10.14.1.

Thanks mbosse. I've been reading old posts and looks like the Intel 770P and ADATA XPG SX8200 are better options.

Think I'm getting the ADATA and returning this Samsung 970.

The bottom of the machine is noticeably warmer now and it doesn't "feel" good to me.

Well - I'm in a similar boat just one day into my 2TB 970 Evo.
Speed is sensational - but even the slightest of activities is now making the fans come on for me.

This won't work. Granted I'm on a 2015 15" 2.8 and I've heard the 2.5 is quieter/less fans - But I'm not sure I want to do all the money losing just to switch to that. Very frustrating, but I knew what I was testing by going with the 970 Evo.

Word to the wise - for many, the 970 evo may simply be a deal breaker due to the heat.

Are Cmnd+Q's instructions still valid for 10.14.2? Wondering if the bootrom has been changed. I've got a rMBP 2014 and will be doing the bootrom hack, but am trying to find out if what's changed since 10.14.2.

Hello I am running a 2014 MacBook Pro 15". I have upgraded the SSD to a Samsung 970 Pro 1TB and I have no issues with waking from sleep but when I set pmset to 25 and when it wakes from hibernate I get the password prompt and when I enter my password it freezes and I have to hold the power button to restart it and then everything is ok. I am using the short board from sintech. I am also running the latest version of Mojave 10.14.2 prior to upgrade.

Hibernate mode 25 will not work with a pre-2015 MacBook unless you today a modified bootrom.

Just an update here, specific to the 2015 15" - which cpu/dGPU or not debate.

My new 2.2ghz 256gb Base Model arrived today and I've swapped in my 2TB 970 Evo and it's like night and day.

Thanks to @Berlinsky for the tip.

I've been using it extensively the last hour and I've yet to hear the fans one single time and things are running dramatically cooler than my 2.8ghz w/ dGPU.

(like 20°C cooler)

Happy as a clam now with my 2015 15" 2.2ghz 16gb model with Samsung 970 EVO 2TB installed.

Hahahahaha. The best Choice ever! Check Post #2485 for details. Battery wise excellent choice.
Best
Just installed it on my wife's Air 2015. Disk Speed Test shows write speed of ~1000MB/s at first run, but then it only gets ~500MB/s. Read speeds don't go much further than ~1400MB/s. It feels like the original SSD. I was expecting something like 2000Read/1000Write.

Specs:
512GB Toshiba XG5 m.2 NVMe SSD for installing on a Macbook Air 13" 2015.
Sintech short adapter.

The air only has pcie 2.0 while the 2015 Pro has pcie 3.0 which may partially explain the lower speeds.

The adapter came with kapton tape that was pre-applied?

Here's a post from someone using an Adata sx8200 in an air: https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...with-samsung-ssd.2099405/page-7#post-26911392

No, It had a small black PCB at the bottom and a kind of a plastic socket where I installed the ssd. Should I apply insulating tape around it?
