that's why i bought crucial p1. still has the original battery time.

Where you buy your J6100 Adapter?
The ones that i find are almost 50€, for that price I prefer a Matt Card

I bought it on ebay from a korean seller. Even if its expensive, I think I will probably update more Macs in the future (family friends), so it's cheaper for me than a MattCard.

Currently I'm trying to install boot camp, but not having luck.
Basically Always I want to install Windows, the Windows installer says "Cannot find partition" even if I selected BC partition.

Also, when holding "alt" at boot, my SSD is still showing yellow - is this expected, even after bootrom update?

Hello, I have MBP 13 "Early2015, I want to increase the capacity of the disk. I'm thinking about buying an Intel 760p or SX8200 Pro (512GB). Which drive will be better, more energy efficient and cooler? Will it work without modification only with the ST-NGFF2013C adapter?

Since your MBP is a 2015, it will work with virtually any nvme drive and not have hibernation issues.

In Canada, the 512 GB 760p is $140 CAD vs the 8200 pro for $150 CAD so I would go for the 760p. If you want to save even more money, the 512 GB Crucial P1 is $100 CAD. Quoted prices are before the 13& sales tax.

I just messed with mine - the eeproms did not match between the dosdude tool and a direct backup. But I flashed a rom I made based on the dosdude backup anyway. Everything seems to work fine. I imagine some minor variables get altered during shut down.

I do wonder if as a workaround we could use something like rEFInd to load the proper driver before booting the OS.

I am in the same situation. I have a MBP Late 2013 (MacBookPro11,1) and I don't have the original m.2 SSD. I have an OWC Aura Pro X which is not detected by the bootrom.

I managed to boot the drive first with Clover, using NvmExpressDxe-64.efi driver, and after first part of install I had to add APFS.efi too.

You can boot an installed OS with Refind and load those two efi drivers (just put them in the drivers_x64 folder with the other .efi files) But you cannot boot into the second part of the install process of HS/Mojave using Refind. This only works with Clover. (Boot macOS install from "Name of your Partition")

After installing refind I also created a folder BOOT in EFI folder, copy the refind_x64.efi and renamed it to BOOTX64.efi, so it gets detected by the mac startup manager. (this is already done in Refind.zip)

The firmware will not flash, but you can use a USB with clover or refind to use your MBP until the problem is really solved.

Also, I tricked the mac into thinking newer bootrom was installed by changing the version number with clover and it works. It fully goes through the install process.

If you want to use Clover, it's quite easy, you don't even need a config.plist file (only serial number will be changed, so if you want to load your original rom and smbios values, you need to inject those using config.plist or switch to Refind)

If you can make an step by step guide that will be perfect
I am going to sell my 256 Apple SSD for 100€, the guy that is going to buy It has a 128gb one, I can buy his for 20€ , in order to keep an original Apple SSD for futures bootrom updates

Thank you for your response. In PL prices are similar but 8200PRO is a bit cheaper.
I'm asking for parameters. Which one is better, power consumption and tempteratura?

Bootup macOS.

Open Disk Utility and format a USB or SD as GUID / MacOS Journaled.

Close Disk Utility and open a terminal window.

Type:

diskutil list

and determine the identifier of the USB/SD EFI partition.

example:

diskutil list

/dev/disk0 (internal, physical):

#: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER
0: GUID_partition_scheme *160.0 GB disk0
1: EFI EFI 209.7 MB disk0s1
2: Apple_HFS MJ test 86.0 GB disk0s2
3: Apple_Boot Recovery HD 650.0 MB disk0s3
4: Microsoft Reserved 16.8 MB disk0s4
5: Microsoft Basic Data W10 73.2 GB disk0s5

/dev/disk1 (external, physical):
#: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER
0: GUID_partition_scheme *16.4 GB disk1
1: EFI EFI 209.7 MB disk1s1
2: Apple_HFS Clover 8.0 GB disk1s2
3: Apple_HFS Install macOS High S... 7.9 GB disk1s3

So my identifier is disk1s1.

Type:

sudo mkdir /Volumes/EFI

sudo mount -t msdos /dev/diskxsx /Volumes/EFI

(change diskxsx to your identifier)

in my case: sudo mount -t msdos /dev/disk1s1 /Volumes/EFI

You should now be able to see the EFI partition in Finder.

Copy the contents of the Refind.zip or Clover.zip (attached to this post) to your EFI partition, eject the USB/SD and you should be good to go.

To be clear, when you open your EFI partition you should see a folder called EFI which holds the Refind/Clover bootloader files.

If you want to inject your own bootrom version and serial number in Clover copy the config.plist in the 3rd directory to your CLOVER folder and edit it with Clover Configurator or Plist editor (for advanced users).

If you want to install macOS do it after the install, else you won't be able to install macOS.

So te be clear, if you want to install macOS High Sierra 10.13.x/Mojave 10.14.x you need Clover, when the install process is finished you can switch to Refind (so you will have your original SMBios and bootrom version (this is changed by Clover) or if you want to keep using Clover, edit config.plist and add your values manually.

Good luck.

Kind regards,

Damian

What is the current recommendation (Sintech adaptor) for a 1TB or 2TB drive for a 2013 MacBook Air?

I don't need or care about Windows compatibility, but do need (macOS) hibernate and sleep to work properly.

The Sintech adapter was shipped yesterday and will take about 3 weeks to arrive in Canada. I won't be buying a nvme drive until I get the adapter.

I look forward to your report on the Air 2017.

Thank you.

Hi Audit13 and hello others.

I was replace stock 128GB SSD on MBA 2017 in last weekend.
Work fine. Speeds UP, but no to much =), but capacity is much bigger.
I use ADATA 8200 PRO 512GB and smal Sintech (smal is better than big one long Sintech adaptor, becouse log adaptor is HIGHER and You will be problem to close a backpanel !)
New OS was installed from network and working fine.
I was change the PMSETtings to "hibernate mode 25", becouse hibernate mode 3 (default) drain too much battery over the unuse (night). Now thats looks like it is OK. No problem with this setting unlike in MBP 2014 =(.

Now Im testing power consumption and leave feedback in future. Good luck with Your update.

I chcecked ssd on desktop motherboard and work fine. Anyone bought damaged adapter? I bought second adapter (black, long version). It will come tomorrow. Anyone has any suggestion?

Hmmm I cannot get Windows 10 to install through bootcamp...

At first it just fails with a bluescreen, but I was able to resolve this with the mentioned fix in ResEdit.
Afterwards it fails again with no way to fix it at reboot.
Anybody else experience this kind of problems?

Are you sure the air isn't an early 2015? I ask because the bootrom indicates an Air 7,1.

Your current bootrom should work with an Nvme drive: https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...ssd-to-m-2-nvme.2034976/page-26#post-25679632

There was another bootrom update with High Sierra: https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...ssd-to-m-2-nvme.2034976/page-48#post-26002978

I'm getting lost in the 100+ pages here.

I have a mid 2015 MBP running High Sierra. I need to add a 2tb SSD. OWC is pricey when converted to CAD. Am I able to use this?

https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147692

Do I need an adapter - or need to change any settings in the laptop or is it simple plug and play?
You can use that drive but expect higher running temps and battery drain.

You will need an adapter to use a non-Apple drive.

I recommend using the Apple SSD to install Mojave before using a new drive to ensure that the MacBook is running the latest bootrom and smc version. High Sierra will run on a MacBook with a Mojave bootrom.

Thanks for the reply.

Not concerned on battery life as it's almost always plugged in. Would it be dangerously higher temps?

Is this unique to that drive, or are there other drives out there I should consider?

The MacBook has built-in thermal controls so it's unlikely it would get hot enough to cause damage. There are people in this thread that have used the 970 Evo in their MacBooks without an issue.

I would look at the Adata sx8200 pro and Intel 760p too; however, I'm not sure the 8200 is available in a 2 TB size from a Canadian retailer.
