I have bought the same one for mid 2014 macbook pro 15 inch because the long one gonna take few more days to arrive. I got the adapter today but my nvme ssd is still on the way. Did you had any luck ?

Nope. I followed others suggestions and ordered a sintech ngff2013-c which is taking its time to get out of china. We'll see. I may end up loosing patience and get back to this ;P

Did anyone try this :
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DCJW2QP

JetDrive 855
  • PCIe NVMe Gen3 x4 interface . - Would it work on my Macbook pro mid 2015 A1398 model

  • If there is no option I would go with : Putting Samsung 960 EVO to work with sontech adapter
  • I have High sierra installed

Hi guys, I know it is a little abusing you but I got lost amount options.

For a MBA mid2013 with High Sierra and no other OSs, 480GB requirement, no high demand applications and on a tight budget, what would be a sensible configuration?

Cheers

AleBec

Does Macbook pro Mid 2015 model require a sin-tech adapter for using Samsung 960 EVO Nvme SSD ?

I see an empty Nvme in the list in the system utility, so I guess my macbook should read the SSD without any adapter???
Please help

yep, need the adapter, but you are in the lucky boat that doesn't need a modified boot rom, just install the drive and hibernation etc will work fine :)
Do you mind linking to the various parts required to flash the bootrom? For starters a programmer that gives the correct 3.3v required; as well as a clip of some-sort?

I've got a Late 2013 (A1502) rMBP with a 512GB Evo and the battery life is not particularly great. I've already dumped the bootrom; and added in the driver into it so its just a case of flashing this next. I know Mojave has updated the bootrom several times (across the various beta's) for Mac Pro's - has anyone noticed if there have been any updates for MBP? Specifically the pre-2015 ones that require it.

I swapped out my 970EVO 500GB for a SX8200 480. This is the past 24 hours. You can see where it was turned on for the first time after restoring from Time Machine, spent some time caching and then dropped to standard. It idles at 0.19A most of the time, instead of the 0.5A of the 970EVO.

As far as Blackmagic, I get about the same (1250/1470) although they sustain longer than they did on the EVO which dropped to about 700 on the 2nd attempt.

whooo... so much struggle just because Apple doesn't allow us to upgrade to latest technology at an affordable cost :(

Relax. From what I remember, it will take about a week to leave China but only a couple of days longer to get to you once it does. 10-14 days seems to be the average.

The Chinese government subsidies export postage; up to 100% for low value items. The trade off is that you may have to wait for cargo space on planes.

This is the tracking I had on mine. It took a couple of days from landing in the UK to turn up at my door. If it took a month, you might have to look at Poste Italiane for the reason why.

Or maybe there are far fewer direct flights from China to Italy so that stuff goes over land.

It's all Cupertino's fault anyway.

I got linked here as I was desperately trying to find a way to upgrade my sorry 256GB SD in this new (NOS) 2015 15" Macbook Pro I just bought. I used to have a late 2011 MBP for many years, fitted with a Crucial MX500 1TB and this is quite the downgrade storage-wise, ha! So after reading horror stories about the so-called "only official upgrade", that being the "Aura X" SSD from OWC, I kept digging for answers and other possibilities and here I am.

So my consensus for upgrading a 2015 15" MBP is...

- buy the new SSD (1TB Samsung 970 Evo or Pro is what I'm interested in)
- buy the proper adapter from Sintech, the longer black one.
- no need for Kapton tape (?)
- create bootable High Sierra on externa USB drive
- Do the swap, transfer OS and data to new drive using Disk Utility

That is all well and can be done painlessly.

My only concern is reading a few conflicting reports about heat and wake-up from sleep issues.

Are these still a concern when it comes to the 2015 or did it affect only the 2013-14 models?
Should I do something about this "bootable" issue?

Or can it be as simple install new SSD + adapter = done!?
(oh how nice that would be!)

Thanks for any advice!

2015 models have native NVMe support with the latest firmware update. Your only concern is power draw. If battery life means much to you, the 970 EVO is probably not the best choice.

I'm on road quite often so yeah, that is quite a bummer!
Would this apply to all the similar Samsung models (ie: 960/970 EVO as well)?

If you want best autonomy, you'll want a WD Black or a kingston (think thats the brand) KC1000. Samsungs are the worst for long runtimes, my XG5 is not much better, but I still get around 6 hours out of the computer.

Some time back I remember I tried on my Macbook Pro 13 "2015 a 1TB Kingston KC1000 SSD with the long black Sintech adapter but I had the problem that the lower cover aluminium did not close, The Kingston KC1000 1Tb has dimensions of 80 x 22 x 3.5 mm and I see that the SX8200 is also equal in dimensions. The cover of your Macbook Pro 13" 2015 could close without problems? Your SSD SX8200 is the 480Gb or 960Gb version? Is the SSD SX8200 single sided or double sided?

I have SX8200 960GB on my Mbp 13'' 2015 with this adapter:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073F9LDD5

It fits just fine. No bend or any issue with the back cover.

960GB is double sided.

Is the combination physically too big for the MBP using the long black Sintech adapter, (for the the best reliability so I understand, please correct me if not), with the 960GB double sided SX8200? I am using a late 2013 15' MBP.

Otherwise it seems other 1TB implementations of the SMI SM2262 controller look attractive re performance: power draw: price: reliability. Aka Intel 760p, and HP EX920?

I am concerned about power draw and am avoiding the 970 EVO due to others' experiences in this thread. I'm very keenly watching out for anyone's experiences with the WD Black v2!

Hello. I have a rMBP mid 2014 15 inch. I have a 256GB ssd but would like to upgrade to 1TB, is it possible? do I need the JSER adapter? which SSDs can I fit? any M.2 ones? Thanks!

I did a upgrade today with intel 660p 512Gb( just $99 in newegg, comparing the high prices of samsung) in my mid 2014 15" macbook pro. I bought the black short sintech adapter (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FYY3H5F/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) because longer one was out of stock. The steps I followed:
- Full time machine backup.
-Downloaded latest high sierra and create a bootable usb with diskmakerx.
-Inserted the new intel 660p SSD using sintech black adapter.
-The disk utility detected intel ssd with no issue. Formatted the drive in apfs.
-Restore from a time machine backup.

Everything is working so far but I can feel little more heat comparing to when I had a original apple ssd. Also the ssd shows up on nvmeExpress with link width 4.
I am not sure if the heat issues is because of the adapter I am using. Many folks here has recommended the long c adapter. I am still waiting for that to be delivered. I will update again.
