Yes. But you have to have made 12 payments on the iPhone Upgrade program. The iPhone X has been out for 11 months. Back and forth between Apple and Citizen's One. It takes 72 hours to post a payment over the phone and you can't make a payment on the web if you're current. I have called twice and gotten 2 different answers on whether or not I'll be able to preorder at midnight on Friday even though I've completed the approval process. Has anyone else had experience with having to make a twelfth payment at preorder? Apple says you can't do that.
Where did you go to go through the approval process?

If you're already part of the IUP, you can go through the preapproval process from the Apple Store app, which is what I did and it says I'm ready to preorder at midnight on 14th. My 12th payment would be 10/02/2018, but it seemed to be fine with me moving forward and told me that I'd owe the $56 for the final upgrade payment when preordering.

I guess I'll find out on preorder night. I assumed it would just charge me the $56 plus the taxes for the Xs Max and first month's payment.

I'm really torn on what to do. Entered the IUP last year with the X. I really don't see anything in the Xs that is pushing me to upgrade and my battery is at 100% of original.

Meanwhile my son has a 6 and a crappy battery.

So options are:
1. Get a Xs via IUP and keep chugging along for $49/month; spend $29 on a new battery for his 6
2. Pay out the X over 12 months hand it to him and get the next revision

Any thoughts/suggestions?

I also don’t know WHAT to do! Halfway through paying off X, very happy with it. I wouldn’t upgraded to the Xs, except that I will be paying $40/ month to att regardless. Because I most certainly will upgrade next year.

So really it comes down to paying the taxes and upgrade fee. Still don’t know if I want to.

Maybe gold. I’m not a gold person, but at least it’d be different!

Is there any benefit to going through the 2nd year and then owning the phone? Will there be a good resale value since this was the ‘10 year anniversary’ phone and the iPhone X is now discountinued? This may help recoup some of the money back no?

You’re in the exact same boat as me. Are the taxes worth it. Not a gold person either, but I think it looks pretty good this year. That’s really the only reason I’d upgrade to the XS.

I'm still on the fence a bit about pre-ordering tomorrow night but yeah I pay extra for AT&T Next so I feel like if I don't then why did I pay extra for all these months? Is that Sunk Cost Fallacy at work? Not sure but I'd also prefer a larger screen just now. I drive for ride share and the X screen is just a bit small and cramped for that and my oolllddd eyes.

What do you mean by you pay extra for ATT Next, isn't it the same $999 spread out over 24 months (with upgrade half way though at 1 year?)

Not upgrading this year as it'll cost more overall to do so rather than to just keep my X for another year. I'd end up with 2 month's additional payments over the next year plus the £69 upgrade fee which is not worth the money for the small benefits the XS offers. I'll also be able to sell my X next year rather than lose all value by handing it to Apple.

Yup! Love my X but have been waiting for the bigger screen. My payment will only change by about $4 and I don't have to deal with the hassle of selling a phone. Best of all worlds.

This is basically where I'm landing... the incentive of keeping the X to sell or give away at this time next year, plus saving the taxes and fees. I think I'll skip. If there was at least ONE new feature... even another color besides gold... I'd consider it. There's just nothing. And that's okay. iPhone X was a huge leap and still feels current

Gotta upgrade cuz there are deeper pixel thingies in the camera. And the gold color.

For the average user with the X, it seems like a pretty lateral move.

Upgrading two iPhone X 256s to the Xs Max 256 for both. Completed pre-approvals yesterday. Hopefully pre-order for pre-approvals is much better this year and I get both on launch day.

Is the iUP much better than purchasing in a single payment? I’ve been purchasing full retail for years but lately resale values dropped and makes selling the phone worst or equal to Apple trade in. Any thoughts on it?

Payment only goes up about $3 to go for a 256GB Max from a X. Would have to pay an early payment of $56, plus the first month and full tax again for a Max. Kind of a bummer, but such is the cost of early adoption I guess? Sucks that the one month late launch last year forces us to make a payment to have the new phone at launch.

personally it isn't costing me any more... so there is no incentive to not upgrade.

Oh, yes it is.

If you have already made 12 of 24 payments, you would only have 12 left.
If you upgrade, you now have 24 payments to go.

Your EXACT months may vary, but the concept is the same. Plus sales tax.

Only you can make that determination for yourself based on your needs & situation. For me, I knew I was going to upgrade every year and I absolutely hated having to find a buyer for my old phone every year hoping I'd get enough back. Most of the time I didn't get what I wanted and it took a lot of my personal time that I just didn't want to spend on such tasks. So I opted for iUP. I love it. And you can request for 50% of the Apple Care to be refunded to you once you've returned the old phone.

Actually it is. If you kept your phone for another year, you could sell it at the next release for $300-400, so it's costing you at least $300-400 to upgrade now.

I would keep the X for another year. Get him a new battery now, then next year upgrade and give your X to him. This is what I'm probably going to do with my mom. She has my old 6s Plus, so I'll give her my X next year when I upgrade.
