Apple has never banked on yearly upgrades, and the majority has never yearly upgraded. It used to be two years, now the average is closer to three.
Correct. It's not to upset people who just bought one last year and/or don't want to upgrade. It's to please the people who didn't just buy one last year and/or do want to upgrade. Apple has acknowledged more than once that the replacement cycle has lengthened, and they've leaned into it by using more durable materials so that if you're going to keep your phone for 5 years it will be unlikely to fall apart in your hand.

What Apple is betting on is the second hand market continuing to thrive and good quality products continuing to grow the base. That's exactly what is happening.

My wife is upgrading to the iPhone 15 Pro Max 512GB Natural Titanium from the iPhone 11 Pro Max 256GB Space Gray.

I am upgrading from the iPhone 14 Pro Max 512GB in Space Black to the iPhone 15 Pro Max 512GB Natural Titanium.

Upgrading from the 12 pro. My battery is at 78% health and severely degraded message pops up

XR and most likely 15 Pro.

I do kinda want a larger screen but the 15 Pro Max seems too heavy. So I'm kinda torn about 15 plus vs 15 Pro. I wonder if the 2x is enough zoom for kids sports vs the 3x for the Pro camera.

I still find my XR perfectly fine. I do want a better camera hence want finally upgrade.

Back in the day I went from a 7 Plus to an iPhone X. Even though the screen was technically bigger, it felt smaller. I bet you missed that real estate all year.
I most definitely missed the real estate upgrading from 7+ to an X. I stuck with that size screen for 18 months, before upgrading to the XS Max. I will never go back to a smaller iPhone again, as long as Apple continue to make the PM.

14 Pro Max 256GB in deep purple to iPhone 15 Pro Max 256GB in White titanium mainly because of the new frame - no more fingerprint prone stainless steel that looks amazing until you touch it and finally not more Lightning so one more cable type I can get rid of, and of course the WiFi 6E - hardly use the iPhone camera and prefer my DSLR camera instead - larger and heavier and a lot more equipment. I also get to trade in my previous iPhone and get around AU$1,000 trade-in value. Will have to purchase a new Magsafe clear case due to the different design and I do think the white and clear case will stand out.

iPhone 11 Pro to iPhone 15 Pro.

I’ve spent the last six months or so on a Nothing Phone 1. It’s a beautiful piece of hardware, and I think that company will go far, but I hated Android, I feel unclean even using Google services, and I missed a lot of the conveniences of iOS given my computer is a Mac, I watch TV with my Apple TV 4K, etc.

iPhone 12 to 15 Pro Max
iPhone 13 to 15 Pro

The 13 to 15 Pro should’ve been 11 to 15 Pro but the 11 failed (pSIM/eSIM not working, out of warranty) so we ended up replacing it early.

We’ll be bringing a mirrorless camera and GoPro on an overseas trip but we probably won’t carry those all the time. Hence, I’d like to have better cameras on the phone.

Won't you miss the bigger screen? A lot of people who had the Pro Max and go to the Pro miss the bigger screen...

Lol, I’m on the iPhone SE3 so not at all. My mom and I both prefer smaller phones. Only gripe is the short battery life.

My dad and brother are okay with larger phones so they’re the designated photographers. They’re not downsizing at all. My dad is going from 6.1” (13) to 6.1” (15 Pro) while my brother is going from 6.1” (12) to 6.7” (15 Pro Max).

Realised delivery dates, at least for the 15PM, are receding. And I certainly don't want to make my mind up then find myself waiting into next year. So have just ordered a white 15PM. Delivery date:

Delivers 9 Nov - 16 Nov

Should be plenty of time to get to a shop and feel one. And change my mind before delivery.
