Best to avoid Steam for now

This release was so slow as to be basically unusable. Takes forever to launch, and then is sluggish and slow to respond to clicks when running. Not to mention it's distinctly un-Mac-like interface. What a stinker.
:(

Performance is the only thing getting me with running Steam on a Mac. I have a newer 27" iMac and I have troubles running the games at a decent frame rate set at 1280x720. Within BootCamp I can run Full Setting Maxed at 1920x1080 at well over 100FPS with all Valve Games. It truly is a huge performance difference and I knew a performance drop was to be expected but this is to greatly different.

Ouch, my mid 2010 17" MacBook Pro runs the Valve Games at 30-60 FPS at 1920x1080 with everything maxed except turned of AA and down to Triple AF in OS X. I don't have windows set up so I can't compare there. You have an ATI video card don't you? Maybe that's a big part of it. It has seemed to me that Apple optimizes things more for Nvidia cards for the last few years.

i've always thought nvidia and ati were releasing drivers for their cards, not apple.am i wrong ?
anyway i noted too that nvidia cards runs much better than ati.. even hardware acceleration ,witch is available only for nvidia :/

I have an ATI Card. 256MB. Maybe they have some optimization still to work out.

Like with HL2 in the beginning of the game it ran smooth but as soon as I stepped outside the building frame rate dropped to 5-10 and hung up bad. It wasn't even playable at this point.

Yeah ATI/Nvidia giving Apple drivers makes sense, but I'd assume there is more tweaking that Apple can do from OpenGL's side that could enhance one or another.

Jumping up and down in my office. People looking at me weird. Oh sh** here comes the supervisor. Slinking into my chair. Freaking awesome. Hooray for Valve.

Where is Call of Duty 6: Modern Warfare 2! Put that game on Mac please as I hate having my Windows partition!

Isn't free which sucks.

Really??? You will pay thousands for a Mac Pro (according to your sig) but you feel entitled to get what many consider the best multiplayer game out for free? Its only $20. Also unlike most games they keep adding more content for free.

: Does happy dance:

:Stops when realizes he will have to split time between DS, FFXI, AND TF2:

:Remebers he's unemployed and has too much free time on his hands:

:Starts dancing again:

i really wish they'd release counter-strike!!!!!

To be honest, I think fully team co-op games like TF2 and L4D series are more fun then CS. Too many people try to solo CS and if you are only "good" and not "great", you get ripped on by teammates and enemies alike.

...... Yes I am still bitter.

Is that Jobs in front?

Anyone notice how the guy carrying the baseball bat looks like the model of Steve Jobs? Do you think that's intentional?

:(

It runs fine for me. Not too much different from steam on win7.

The scout is considered to be modeled after Vince Offer

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vince_Offer

Although I have not find confirmation of these new taunts, the scout wiki said: http://tf2wiki.net/wiki/Scout
With the release of the Scout update, lines such as "If you order now, I'll throw in an extra beatin', absolutely free" and "No other class is gonna do that" were added to the game files.

I bought Orange Box the other day when it was on sale (Half Life 2, Episode 1 & 2, Portal, and Team Fortress 2) but Team Fortress 2 isn't showing up in my games list. Is this happening for anyone else?
