Glad you cracked yourself up, so you could get some laughs.

Fact is, I've never had a UDP--never needed it. There's reliable wifi most places I frequent, and I have no need to constantly stream movies or listen to music on YouTube every minute of my life. I'm currently on a Share Everything plan with 3GB of data and unlimited talk/text on 2 lines for $99 out the door. That works for me.
Your getting ripped off

warning if we all can not get along in here i will have a mod closed this

so what stay on topic of the fourm and be nic too one of other

Well two weeks ago I used the forever method to extend my udp contract another two years by transferring my upgrade to another line and I got a 6s. So I will see what is up in two years.

How long did you guys think they would keep the price of the old unlimited plan? It's been $29 for a long time.

Replacement for home internet? Maybe not. But when they offer (still today) a $30/mo hotspot feature for those with unlimited data... it seems to me they are happy to let people use gobs of data. In fact when the Thunderbolt came out (their first LTE phone), they advertised sharing data with friends off of it (this is when they launched unlimited data hotspot). They pretty much pushed binged data on people in commercials with video streaming, video chats, sharing your data with friends, etc.

However... I am not complaining about a $20 bump. $50/mo for unlimited data is still highly underpriced and I am happy to pay it. I love their hotspot feature and use it daily as my internet connection. It is faster than most wifi networks available and it is private offering more security than a public wifi hotspot while on the go.

The security aspect alone is huge. Public wifi is a security joke. Whenever I'm not at home I use LTE. I don't burn through hundreds of GB but I routinely go over 20. And the fact is that data usage is only going to go up, not down. 18 GB might seem reasonable today, but in a year or two it might feel measly.

I suspect ultimately Verizon will find a way to do away with all the unlimited plans. But until that day, might as well enjoy the ride.

Just get a VPN service they come to less than $6 a month and use the openvpn connect iOS app which is open source. That way encrypted tunnel when on public wifi. I agree though I don't understand people browsing or using email over public wifi it's all plain text for the most part and can be seen.

I've used VPN services on my phone before and found that they would disconnect without warning, defeating the purpose of using one.

Actually most of us get discounts on top of that $29.99. It's just weird how Verizon does discounts. I pay $24 for unlimited data with my discount.

If price goes up to $49.99 we may lose that data discount. Since Verizon only discounts $29.99 and $50 and up data plans. I do not believe they have it in their system to have 49.99 data discount. We won't know until first people get their new bill November 15th.

I didn't want to take any chances. My billing period ends October 18th. They supposedly have insert for new price changes October 15th being effective November 15th for those not being under contract.

So not sure if you need to be under contract by October 15th or November 15th.

I wasn't taking any chances. Ordered from Best Buy this afternoon for 6S 64gb. I really don't even need an iPhone since I got a 6s plus 64gb already! Best Buy already shipped my phone and it will arrive Monday. I will do the Best Buy loophole method to maintain unlimited data. I could have done transfer upgrade also since i have multiple lines.

Anyways logged onto Verizon and it shows my new contract date as October 9th 2017. So I think I am good for 2 more years at $29.99 ($24 with discount) for unlimited data. It's a no brainier to try to upgrade NOW to get a phone. Because I would already be paying $20/month X 24 months extra. That's $480 extra. Might as well buy a subsidized iPhone for $199-399 and keep it as a spare or resell it or gift it away.

So the price is supposed to increase because?
Oh yeah, so the greedy carriers can rack in more billions in profits?
Great logic.
Carrier competition is supposed to improve service, better plan options for consumers, provide better coverage, faster speeds and competitive prices. Ever heard of that?
I guess you enjoy paying more in order to line up verizon's ceo's and shareholders pockets instead....

I can't help but think that this is somehow tied in with Apple. As soon as I heard that Apple would start an installment plan with iPhones, my first thought was "crap. Verizon wants us to pay full retail". Now, I guess they figured since not paying full retail upfront for a phone, we'd have some extra cash in our pockets. Oh, and all of a sudden NOW we can get on a Verizon installment plan.
I was disgusted when I first read the news about the $20 increase because that's an extra $480 a year added on to my plan. Then I calmed down and realized it's still good. Yeah, I don't feel that way anymore. I still pay for the phone subsidy from a plan that's 4 years old. I buy my phones every year at full price. They told me if I do these things I can keep everything the way it is. Then not even 2 weeks after a full price purchase I have to pay more for my grandfathered plan. GRANDFATHERED. that means leave it alone. Just the way grandpa likes it.

True. After iOS 8 the openvpn app has a seamless tunnel option to enable. So it blocks traffic while its reconnecting to the tunnel. Works well now at least on wifi.

Good to know! I'd still rather not use public wifi if I don't have to though, and with unlimited data I don't have to.

How does the Best Buy loophole method work? I used some type of loophole three years ago I saw on the Internet. I have a second phone and I think I renewed the contract on the second line (not a smart phone) then transferred the number over to my iPhone 5. Thanks.

Lots of google searches.

But the Crux of the loophole is since Best Buy is third party reseller. Once u upgrade via Best Buy. Best Buy will notify Verizon to extend your contract for 2 years.

The "data plan change" authorization is tied into the nano sim that ships with the iPhone I ordered. All Best Buy cares is I "activate" the phone. Once phone is activated Best Buy lets me off the hook and confirms with Verizon system the transaction is complete.

Verizon system doesn't know the nano sim that ships with the new 6S that will trigger the force data plan change was never activated. That's the key.

It's a little confusing. Google it.
1. Order upgrade from Best Buy. Best Buy confirmation even says "keep existing plan". If someone goes wrong you can always return the phone to Best Buy with no restocking fee within 14 days and get ur unlimited data back

2. Receive phone. DO NOT TURN PHONE ON. Take an already activated nano sim (presumably your Verizon active nano sim from ur phone you been using ) and put it in the new 6S.

Take the nano sim that was preinstalled out and destroy it. Yes. Destroy that that nano sim. Because you never want anyone to use that nano sim that's tied into your account that will trigger the data plan change.

You are good to go.

The reason I went with the 6S over the 6s plus was I didn't want to risk having to wait 2-3 weeks for the 6S plus. Time is of the essence here. Either your contract needs to be extended before the October 15th "notification period" or November 15th date.

Since my billing period ends October 17/18 (can't remember which one). That means officially Verizon can say they inform me that date in the billing insert my data price would change. And that's the 30 day notice.

This is the detailed link other methods to keep unlimited data.

I'm making no such assumptions about all users. If you aren't included in the group I mentioned, great. I simply brought up the fact that on this forum as well as other venues, I see many of those on UDP's brag over and over and over again about how much data they use.

These 1% users who are consuming gargantuan swaths of data every month (and absolutely bask in the glory of bragging about it) pitching epic tantrums bc they're getting charged rates more comparable to the current market seem to come across as the greedy ones.

I'm in the 1% and not consuming a huge amount of data, not basking in any sort of glory nor pitching an "epic" tantrum. You're assuming everyone in the 1% is the same and that's not true.

I do agree with you that I've seem the same braggarts. But that's not all of us. I simply don't like paying more for less. Simple as that.

My searches have let to accounts with multiple lines, I have one line with an available upgrade. Can I still do this?

And essentially I'll be paying the subsidized price for the phone and keeping the UDP?

If you can't read, that isn't my problem, but for the sake of goodwill, I will reiterate one last time. After this, you can claim victory in ignorance's war of attrition b/c I tap out.

I do agree with you that I've seem the same braggarts. But that's not all of us. I simply don't like paying more for less. Simple as that.
That's fantastic, but I never said it was all of you.

False. I never assumed anything, and you would've known this had you been bothered to actually read my statements instead of defensively penning a knee-jerk reaction. I'll quote myself as to avoid any further confusion:
These 1% users who are consuming gargantuan swaths of data every month (and absolutely bask in the glory of bragging about it) pitching epic tantrums bc they're getting charged rates more comparable to the current market seem to come across as the greedy ones.
I've bolded and italicized the adjective clause which is serving as a modifier to which users I'm alluding to. At what point do I say "all of those on UDP's"?

I'm making no such assumptions about all users. If you aren't included in the group I mentioned, great....
...and I honestly have no idea how you missed or misconstrued this one.

Have a fantastic day!

I just ordered one using the VZ website it says that the phone will ship until the 26th. The 26th is also the that that the period close. Am I safe or I'm getting a contract with the 49.99 for the unlimited?

No you are now losing unlimited data ! You can not order a phone from Verizon and keep unlimited data unless you pay full retail price and then your paying $49.99 just for the data

Im looking into doing this right now. Here's my plan. What do you think?

1. I'm going to oder an Iphone 6S 128gb from Best Buy online. Can I pick it up in the store or is there some reason I need to have it shipped? If I have to have it shipped I'll need to do expedited shipping. On the Best Buy website it shows a price of $399.00 for a two year Verizon contract. Is that the one I have to select?

2. Will the nano sim in my iPhone 5 work in the iPhone 6S? I don't know much about sim cards.

3. Destroy sim card in new iPhone 6s and use sim card from iPhone 5 in the new iPhone 6s. My billing period ends / starts on the 16th so I'm assuming I have to do this right now?

Cheers
