Im looking into doing this right now. Here's my plan. What do you think?

1. I'm going to oder an Iphone 6S 128gb from Best Buy online. Can I pick it up in the store or is there some reason I need to have it shipped? If I have to have it shipped I'll need to do expedited shipping. On the Best Buy website it shows a price of $399.00 for a two year Verizon contract. Is that the one I have to select?

2. Will the nano sim in my iPhone 5 work in the iPhone 6S? I don't know much about sim cards.

3. Destroy sim card in new iPhone 6s and use sim card from iPhone 5 in the new iPhone 6s. My billing period ends / starts on the 16th so I'm assuming I have to do this right now?

Cheers

1) yes it must be shipped and you don't need to pay for expedited shipping it's a rip off
2) yes
3) correct

It does not matter
So does all of this mean I will now have a new two year unlimited data contract? I've had unlimited for years (never abused it) but have been out of contract for over a year at this point. Seems almost too good to be true that I can get a subsidized phone (with UD) for $399.00 even though I (finally) understand the process.

I was just like you but I ordered a new iphone 6s and still shows unlimited with my contract ending in 2017

I never insulted you so I don't appreciate you doing that to me. There's no reason to stoop to that level. Enjoy continuing to waste your life away on this topic. I hope it's short...

If you can't read, that isn't my problem, but for the sake of goodwill, I will reiterate one last time. After this, you can claim victory in ignorance's war of attrition b/c I tap out.

That's fantastic, but I never said it was all of you.

False. I never assumed anything, and you would've known this had you been bothered to actually read my statements instead of defensively penning a knee-jerk reaction. I'll quote myself as to avoid any further confusion:

I've bolded and italicized the adjective clause which is serving as a modifier to which users I'm alluding to. At what point do I say "all of those on UDP's"?

...and I honestly have no idea how you missed or misconstrued this one.

Have a fantastic day!

Did you just order from Best Buy? At what point did you see it said you we're good until 2017?
It takes around 2-6 hours. I orders at 348pm eastern time yesterday and when I logged back on at 7pm I already saw October 9 2017 as my new contract date.

My phone shipped and arrives Monday already.

I did. It change like an hour after I ordered
During the Best Buy ordering process what did you select? Upgrade my device, add this device to my account or buy an activated device? Seems like upgrade my device would be the way to go? Thanks

This is what I did
1. Put one number that does not have upgrade
2. select the phone you want
3. is going to ask you if you want to transfer an upgrade from another line. That's when you transfer the upgrade from the UDP

that's what I did and it worked

Hi aneftp,
I ordered one on best buy but the second one wasn't letting me do it so I did it on the VZ website. It is showing a shipping date of 26th. That's the same day the my period ends/start. Do you think I'm safe?

Thanks

I have a second phone (flip phone my mother uses) that doesn't have internet capabilities. Are you saying to use that number versus my iPhone 5? Both of my phones are eligible for upgrades.

I recall reading somewhere that If you use a dumb line to upgrade you will have to pay $30 for data to that line for 2 yrs. Do you have another smart line that doesn't have UDP

I only have two phones. iPhone 5 and a dumb phone. Both are out of contract for aver a year. I'm in the Best Buy system right now and it gives me the option of a two-year contract after I used my current iPhone 5 phone number to check for upgrade eligibility. Of course there was that notice in the beginning that stated no more UD and I'll be moved to a 2gb plan (hoping the sim swap method puts an end to that, lol)

Your huge assumption is your usage case is common. If the numbers don't work then that isn't Verizon's fault. But they do work for people who actually use UDP for serious data amounts. Those puffing about going elsewhere for $240 per year, good luck with that if you are in a too common roaming area. However if the coverage works then just go,no puffing required most here nor Verizon cares.

I'm not making any assumptions actually, and certainly one that all use cases are the same. I fact, it's quite the opposite. I specifically stated that the metered plan, one that I would pay more for than unlimited, doesn't fit my particular use case REGARDLESS of my particular data usage scenario. I choose to keep the UDP so I don't have to monitor our usage nor worry about potentially insecure public networks. For some consumers their cell service serves as their primary broadband access thus resulting in large data consumption which make the UPD a very cost effective solution. That's great. My folks, in fact, are in this use case given where they live.

I understand that a lot of folks are pissed off about this change and I'm fully aware that Verizon doesn't really care given that they account for a certain percentage of attrition - especially in this case where they really don't want people on the UDP to start with.

I'm definitely not saying, or assuming, that all consumers or their usage scenarios are the same. Far from it...

It might work if you do yours and the sim swap but I really don't know. I would suggest you to read this

maybe you can find something similar to your case

Do not order from Verizon directly unless u have a spare tiered data line to do a transfer upgrade. That's the transfer upgrade loophole that works on Verizon dot com and best buy dot com.

I don't know about the contract reset period time line. No one knows. It's either going to be October 15th or November 15th or somewhere in between.

I do have another line with limited line and that's what I did. I transferred the upgrade from the unlimited to the non unlimited and ordered

Just placed an order through Best Buy (iPhone 6s) using the advice I received on here. Paid a little more for expedited shipping just to be sure I don't miss my 16th of the month cut off. Hope this works, lol. Thanks everyone for your help.
