I’m not sure this is the best comparison. iPhones cost way more now, iPods went above their launch price in a few iterations and i’ve never spent less than 2500 on a Mac. i guess i see your point in that these product prices shocked people at launch… but i feel instead of paying less it just became the new norm lol. I really hope that isn’t the case with the vision though. As much as i love mine I can’t afford a new $3500 device every few years lol
Apple's long term target price level for this product is not close to $3500.

I still think it's worth it for many use cases. I'll wait for rev 2 as others are. Mainly due to them learning from this devices use and making adjustments for it. Maybe even rev 3. But, this is awesome. I really want it.

Counterpoint: The iPod, and associated iTunes Store, changed the entire music industry and, arguably, digital sales. The iTunes Store model is what underlies the App Store, which undeniably has changed the entire mobile computing landscape.
This is completely different, you bought an iPod to listen to music. that was revolutionary coming from Cd players or mini discs. This is like the 3D fad of movies. You don’t need a vision pro to watch content or listen to music, this is adaptive entertainment and it’s niched at the moment. Back then everyone had a cd player and wanted to listen to music without the cd skipping every seconds.

The Airplane Travel video is really one of the best ones I have seen to showcase what the product can and cannot do.

well done folks!

I showed my wife a few videos on the AVP, which she had not heard about previously. One was MKBHD’s review and the other was Casey’s video. My wife’s first comment - I want one. This is a woman who isn’t a techie, doesn’t work in tech, but sees the potential uses as being exciting. She thinks the same thing others have said - it’s the future of computing, even if today‘s version isn’t exactly a svelt device. I can see her wearing it for work, as she spends most days on video calls, while reviewing spreadsheets and presentations.
My wife had the exact same response. It could be that women are just a little more perceptive than men and less limited by preconceptions and biases. Or maybe it's just mine...

I disagree. This is going to go EXACTLY as Apple planned. The 1.0 was always intended to be the SHOW ME product that pointed where things were going. The key target buyer is developers. The 4.0 product will be the price of a MacBook Air, and everyone will want one.

The key target is devs? That’s why Apple is sending Tim Cook on Good Morning America and to do a shoot with Vogue? Do devs spend a lot of time watching GMA and reading Vogue?

Same thing was said when the original iPod was announced. I suspect things will change.
No we didn’t said that. it was more expensive than the rio player, creative nomad or Sony wathever but it was not crazy expensive. I bought it for $399 after selling my Sony cd-mp3 player, saving some cash for two months and asking my mother for the rest, less than $50 bucks. I don’t see that happening for any z teen trying to buy a Vision Pro.

When the average middle class American is struggling to pay their bills I think this product segment might take along time to flesh out.
It’s not going to be like the iPhone or iPad. Those devices were easily accessible by the masses. But this one…. Nope.
You can’t use this headset when it’s night time. Tracking completely stops working. It has a two hour battery life and we’re starting to see morons driving with this on, walking around cities with this on.
It’s only a matter of days before this item is clean ripped off someone’s head and stollen.

It’s a cool product don’t get me wrong. But man is this not going to go the way Apple had planned. If anything it’s going to spark interest in the segment more and drive people to AFFORDABLE competing products.
Careful - people said the same thing about many Apple products, including the iPhone. When the iPhone came out it was much more expensive than other “smart” phones of the time. Many people expected it would fail.

I’m not saying it’s a sure winner, just saying there is a chance it will surprise you.

They will never be glasses. The idea that all of the tech in a Vision could fit into regular glasses is absurd fantasy.

I really hope you are joking around, otherwise this is a very silly thing to say.... iPads have as much computing power as computers that use to take up almost entire rooms.... iphones do what 6 or 7 separate big bulky devices did back in the days. If AR/VR is indeed the future you better believe that the tech will evolve and get there eventually.

Let's wait the cheaper Apple Patch Pro.

I think the reality is none of us knows

Many, myself included, are saying things like "glasses or contacts will be it" because it's something we have now

Who knows what the future holds for interacting with tech

This is what's going to happen... everyone else disembarked... got to their meeting, got to their family... got to their holiday resort..

while the person wearing AVP is still wandering around the empty aircraft in their own world... blissfully unaware

Your mistake is imagining that tech progress has no limits. That there’s a never ending cycle of miniaturization. But there isn’t. You run into the limits of physics itself. The idea that all these cameras and LiDAR sensors and screens and processors and batteries and so forth are going to be small enough to fit in standard frames is flatly absurd. The battery alone makes it impossible. There isn’t going to be a revolution in battery tech that makes them 100x smaller any time soon, if ever.

How terrible is that carrying case? I knew it was awkwardly huge, but watching them handle it in that airport video...sheesh. Loose, saggy fabric makes it look like it's a case that came from Wish or something. Very un-Apple-like.

The case really is unattractive and unsettlingly large. Why the floppy fabric? What purpose does that serve other than making it look like an under stuffed pillow or a saggy marshmallow?
