yea same here, is that for real, I have to have that for my collection.

If you think that's something, try doing a Google search for the Apple set-top box...

Apple has a pretty rich and crazy history of things that never took off (Pippin, anyone?) and yet seem like really great ideas - though a bit ahead of their time. A lot of them were also horrible mismanaged and bungled of course, too.

Also, they made a lot of Performas.

Trusty G4

The release of Leopard has has raised my awareness of how many others, like me, still rely on G4's as our primary systems.

I thought it might be fun for people to post their vintage Macs in action. I'll start with my G4's that I use every day at work.

The 500 MHz TiBook is mine, but I'm letting a lab-mate use it. It's running Leopard great.

The Quicksilver is a 733 still running Tiger, but I'm trying to get the owner to let me upgrade it for her.

Opposite the Quicksilver is my workhorse, a dual 867 MDD, with 2 gigs of RAM.

Excuse the mess, like I said, these are real-world action shots of these "vintage" beasts.

More to come from my home setup.

HOW DID YOU DO THAT TELL US!!!!!!!!!!!

Here's my PowerBook 5300 that I resurrected yesterday:
<snip>

Very nice 5300 bartelby! I have 4 5300cs'es, great little machines. What do you do with yours?

Also....

All mah old Macs and computers, not in action, I don't have enough powercords.

Also, props to my little sister for holding da Wallstreet!

No photos due to a mixture of apathy and laziness ;) , but I've got a G4-400 and a G3-400 in daily use as servers (Tiger Server - tempted to upgrade the G4 to Leopard with the usual hack), along with my original Mac Plus + 20mb external SCSI HD, which still works just fine.

It almost hurts to consider the G4 as 'vintage' as it still works so hard as a mail/web/IRC and media server...

Running 10.5.1 on my Powerbook G4, its my trusty companion, I'll upload a picture when I get a chance. Its been a great machine, I run 5-8 programs at the same time and it hums along. I left behind a couple of old machine, my Powerbook 5300c, an iMac G3, and a couple of other classics.

I love my old macs, the G4 was a good proc, I dont care what they say.

Well here is a picture of my old PowerBook G3. It used to be my dad's main computer until he got his MacBook Pro. Then I used it as my main computer for a little over a year then I realized I needed to update so I could run Leopard and use my iPod touch. So, this past Christmas I got my MacBook that is now in my sig.

I remember the quicktake. Always wanted one. They used to have commercials all the time.

re-did my setups a bit. Took the PB 1.67 to work and brought the dual 867 MDD home. Also resurrected my 3400c for internet radio via iTunes 2.0. Switched my dual 1.3 GHz Sawtooth over to a full-time media server.

Wow, so hot right now.

What's "teh snappier" for you? The MDD or the upgraded sawtooth?

You all have some nice "vintage" computers. I wish I had an old one to toy around with.

the dual 1.3 GHz Sawtooth is much quicker, despite the lower FSB. It does overheat and freeze up after a while if its been multitasking at near CPU capacity for extended periods.

The stock dual 867 is much more stable and has a better video card.

Both have 2 GB of RAM.

I started with a Apple IIc...Apple IIe in the mid 80s. Upgraded to a Centris 650. Probably would still be using the 650 if lightning did not do major damage to the guts...pretty fired! Upgraded to a PowerBook G3 Lombard which I am still using. Switched to building PCs with my son while still using the G3. My self built PC died a slow death a few months ago. Now waiting patiently for my Octo 2.8 Mac Pro.

...still love my trusty G3. Pics to follow...my son has my camera!
