My 12" G4 PowerBook is absolutely my favorite system ever (sorry G3 iBook!), to the point that my iMac is really the family computer and it is sooooooooooooo under utilized. I just wish they kept the 12" PB form and released an Intel based one.

I can't go MB or MBA, maybe MBP for my next upgrade cycle :(

Then again, why upgrade? :D

My beautiful Cube. I can look at it all day :)

May be the most beautiful computer ever created.

HOW THE HELL? DID YOU GET LEOPARD ON YOUR TI BOOK YOU MUST TELL ME
CAN I PUT IT ON MY 800MHZ EMAC!?!?!?!?! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

I though Leopard wouldn't run well on my Ti Book 1000mhz but you say it works OK on 500?

works as well as Tiger for most things. I do have a gig of RAM in it though. The major limitation is my 8 MB of VRAM.

I would expect your 1.0 GHz to be fine though, do you have 16 MB or 32 MB of VRAM?

PowerMac G4 Cube (manufactured in August 2000)
450MHz G4 Processor
128GB HDD (160GB recognized as 128GB)
1.25GB RAM
MacOS 10.4.11

Still works great for web surfing and email.

For anyone who hits the 128gb (approx) limit on their harddrive, you can actually access the full drive with software. =)

I have a PowerMac G4 Dual 800 as headless server (use ARD to connect from anywhere).
Currently 5 harddrives in it using both IDE and extra SATA card.

I'll post some pictures later, after I finish cleaning/rearranging my home office.

Vintage Macs still alive and kicking at home:

- 1.33GHz 12" PowerBook G4, 1.25GB RAM, 60GB HD, Combo drive, MacOS X Leopard

- 1.4GHz PPC 7455 w/ 2MB L3 (OWC Mercury) Gigabit Ethernet PowerMac G4, 2GB RAM, Radeon 9800 Pro, Pioneer DVR-107 Superdrive, USB 2.0 PCI card, ATA/133 PCI card, FireWire 800 PCI card, MacOS X Leopard, 80GB HD, multiple external FW800 drives (was running server duty, currently not needed)

- 17" iMac G4 800MHz, 768MB, MacOS X Tiger (not sure of hard drive size)

- PowerMac G4 Cube, 450MHz, 1.5GB RAM, GeForce 6200, 160GB HD, MacOS X Tiger (contemplating a processor upgrade to the 1.6-1.8GHz range)

- PowerMac G5 dual 2.5GHz, 2GB RAM, Superdrive, Radeon X800XT, 160GB HD (does a G5 count as vintage?)

Non-functional, though just due to missing parts:

- iBook G3 600MHz (no RAM)
- PowerMac G3 blue & white w/ 900MHz G3 (no RAM, no HD)
- iMac G3 DV graphite (no RAM)

My Sawtooth & Pismo

Everyone in my house has a G4, except for my Dad. My Mom has a iMac G4 800MHz, my oldest brother has an iBook G4 1.33GHz, my second oldest used to have a G4 Cube, but sold it and bought a PowerBook G4 867MHz. My dad has nothing but a G5 tower, a iMac intel, and a MacBook Pro.

Here's my Power Macintosh G4 Sawtooth (AGP Graphics).

Pict1.jpgPict2.jpg

I rely HEAVILY on my Power Mac G4 Sawtooth, and it runs Leopard VERY WELL, for just a 450MHz Processor, and I plan to give it it's last upgrades before investing in a G5 or iMac Intel. I had this computer for three years (before, I had a 400MHz iMac DV Indigo). Back in 2005, when I was going to graduate, my computer teacher gave it to me, believe it or not, with a keyboard & mouse, and I gave my aunt my iMac in exchange for this elderly 17" DELL monitor, which displays very well for it's age. It was the last & latest Mac in the entire school. I'll never forget that. It came with a 400MHz G4, 128MB RAM, 20GB Hard Drive, 32X/6X DVD-Drive, an ATi Rage 128, and OS 9.1. Look how far I've come with this thing, just by reading my signature.:p

Next, My PowerBook G3. I always wanted to sell my iMac DV for one of these, but it never worked out. FINALLY, after SIX freaking years, my brother found one of these in the back of the Apple store he works next door from, and they considered it junk. It had no keyboard, no working batteries, no CD drive, and a crappy 20GB, but came with a remarkable 512MB of RAM. I fixed it up got a new charger, HD, and keyboard, and BOOM! IT WORKS PERFECTLY! I've owned this thing for a month now. Still looking for a battery though.:(

:apple:I wish Apple would look into their roots more often. I remember back when the Government classified my Sawtooth a Supercomputer back in 1999. G4's were some of the most successful Macs there were. They had the most models. *Sigh*, the world I grew up in is GONE.:(

@ Sawtooth811,

I have 4 PC100 512 sticks from my 500 MHz Sawtooth as well as a PowerLogix dual 1.3 GHz processor for it. PM me if interested.

I cannot keep my office below 80 degrees F with both it and my dual 867 MDD running all the time, and have opted to keep just the MDD.

wow, this was a neat thread to peruse. :) it was sort of like being at the mac museum. i'd never seen an apple camera before today!

i too own a few antiquated machines. the oldest would be my very first mac, a 6500/225 power pc (tower) that runs 9.2.2; for all the abuse i put it through, it still runs like a champ. i also own a dandy 8100/100 tower that runs 8.6.

i'm almost embarrassed to admit that the daily workhorse is something of antique as well...

I've got an eMac 1.25, while not exactly "vintage" is getting older. I just got it from eBay and so far it's been a great machine and runs surprisingly well.

Right now the setup I have isn't optimal because I just got it and as you can see, it's a little big for my desk, but I'm working on moving it elsewhere.

I've had the pleasure of administrating a lab of several of those eMacs. They work like a dream, and the damn kids can't knock them of desks!

Need to pick one up of my own. How much was yours, out of curiosity?

My newly upgraded Cube...

The specs:
1.7GHz (1MB L2), 1.5GB RAM, 160GB HD, 256MB GeForce 6200, Bluetooth, Airport, DVD, PowerLogix clear PowerCube case, Cube speakers, aluminum Apple 20" Cinema Display, aluminum Apple wireless keyboard, wireless Mighty Mouse

It was a little over $200 with shipping but beware of the ones that come from stores because they cost much more and you can get much better deals from personal sellers.

FYI (as I see you're sporting .4 or .3), I installed Leopard on my grandmother's eMac (1 GB RAM, 1 GHz processor) and it runs surprising well.

Yeah its running Tiger right now. I was considering upgrading to Leopard but I would have to buy more RAM and I actually don't have a Leopard cd because we bought our newer macs with Leopard preinstalled so I would have to get hold of a Leopard cd somehow.

Yeah, I may actually pick one of those up if my PC project goes awry.

Antec Twelve Hundred, WD Raptor, or eMac? Decisions, decisions....
