Hi everyone - UK AVP user here as of 2 days ago! Just wondered what the consensus is on whether the latest beta (v3) of 2.0 is worth it? I'd absolutely love to use the 2D->3D photo conversion stuff and also being able to play web content in cinematic mode. Are the bugs so bad that it'd get in the way of the experience for a newish user?

Thanks so much - really happy to be part of this cool community of early adopters :)

Only issue I’ve had is it makes Marvel’s What If crash sometimes.

It’s totally worth it for the 3D photo conversion. Use it on old vacation pics and it’s like you’re back in the location. It’s quite remarkable.

I just updated to the 2.0 and it is so worth it. The 2D to 3D is great, you do not want to leave Photos. You want to see every photo in 3D. I also like the AirPlay mirroring where you can show what you see on a TV or monitor screen. It is great for demoing apps (even Encounter). The rearranging of apps is nice and the whole usability/UI is improved.
This release justifies the money I spent and the belief that it would only improve in time.

Couldn’t agree more - if anything the beta of 2.0 felt more stable than the release of 1.2 I was on previously. UI is silky smooth and 3D photos are amazing. Have you tried the Mac virtual display yet? Not sure whether the wide/ultrawide features are available yet but have been meaning to try it out

I wasn't sure how to do it? On the Apple preview of 2.0 they showed the user clicking with his fingers and it changing size but it did not work for me. Maybe there is another way.
But the screen does seem a little bit wider when you mirror your laptop.

With the 2.0 beta, we are slowly marching closer to a more fully baked operating system. However, it still has a long way to go.

As mentioned above, the 3D photos are the "hero" feature of 2.0. They're stunning. I wish you could just have it do it to all images though.

Of note:

I find the hand flipping gesture annoyingly hard to trigger, but it's better in Beta 3. I actually didn't mind the looking up to get to Notification Center. AirPlay mirroring now works, so you can AirPlay YouTube videos to your AVP.

They need to work on usability in a laying down position as that's the position I prefer if I'm going to watch a movie or longer form content. It seems to screw things up.

Worth flagging you can re-enable the lookup for control centre in the accessibility settings (I also like that feature).

One issue I’m having is in cinema mode in an environment, I’ll be watching a film and it will slowly start moving to the left or right (not fixing in place properly) meaning I have to keep re-centering my view - I guess it’s cause I’m watching at night in the dark which throws the tracking off, but still annoying!

Is there no visionos public beta? I wonder if they're gonna skip the public phase and just release 2.0 early since it's such a minor release. Then just start testing widescreen Mac mirroring immediately in 2.1...

1000% wishful thinking.

It looks like with VisionOS 2 Beta 4 they changed it so that bluetooth keyboard and mouse connected to your computer will pass through virtual environments when using Mac virtual display. This makes the feature WAY more useful to me!

Anyone else having an issue when every time they put on the AVP, nothing happens? Hitting buttons or trying gestures just doesn’t do anything so have to restart every time using it? I have only had this behavior in beta 4.

I've seen that behavior in the earlier versions of VisionOS 1. Haven't seen it on the beta though

It happened once or twice in Beta 2, but I haven't seen it since. You can tell with Beta 4 they've started optimizing as they prepare for RC.

Happened a ton for me on beta 3, it’s happened once so far on beta 4 but hopefully not as often. Really annoying bug
