I may be one of the few who likes OS X, Windows and Linux. I use OS X for everyday computing, Windows for my CAD/CAM programs and for HTPC duties, and like to play around with Linux to learn it and use it to burn CDs to FLAC since there is a free software that does that in Linux. :D

So my answer is I am staying with all three :D

I'm planning my Apple detox.

It's going to be interesting, given how invested I am at the moment, but I'm looking forward to it in a way.

Only thing is my iTunes movie library. I knew that convenience would bite me in the ass one day.

People can go away from Apple. But like Disney, McDonald's, Coca-Cola, Nintendo, Google, and Facebook, Apple may never go away from success and relevance. Companies like Polaroid, Hitachi, BlackBerry, Palm, Nokia, Motorola, Atari, and SEGA never reached that level of brand immortality. Apple has already did. Not sure about Samsung as they could tumble as badly the next five years as Sony did during their last ten years.

Many businesses come and go. Even the great IBM went away. Like in clothes stores (Mervyn's), tech stores (ie Circuit City, RadioShack), Tower Records, and so forth go belly up. Very few stay relevant for several decades. A 40-year old, Apple, might be one of them. We'll see. Only the passage of many more years can answer that. You can never be too arrogant in business.

Regarding my finances, I'd only do those on Windows if there was no other option. Regarding iOS, what other better options are there-Android? I'm thinking no.

Despite Apple, neutering their home grown applications (divesting themselves?) like AppleWorks and now apparently Pages where I'm irritated I can no longer locate the Bold Text selection. Inconceivably, they dumped this feature, REALLY Apple?? I may be switching to a better iOS based word processor. Any suggestions?

Update: I found Bold buried in a menu...

I like PowerPC stuff, so I'll keep using Apple hardware for daily tasks, but I have never liked or used OS X.

Ho, ho, ho. The utter certainty and conviction of youth allied to a slight lack of awareness and - um - context.

Companies like Nokia 'never reached that level of brand immortality'? Really?

In 2000, Nokia were unassailable and were the world market leaders - by a wide margin - in the marketing, design and selling of mobile phones. Nobody could have foreseen how that market would be utterly transformed within a decade with the introduction of the iPhone - which is not just a phone but a means to delivering content and carries its own internally coherent universe in its splendidly complex interior.

There is nothing to say that Apple will be around, although, thus far, they have shown impressive foresight in not simply responding to changing markets, but in identifying them in advance, and succeeding in challenging and reconfiguring and transforming them.

I'll most likely be leaving. A Dell XPS13 or Surface pro paired with the next Nexus devices to come out from Google. I'm sick of Apple.

Hell no. Not leaving apple. Been there done that with Windows. Never again. Even with the minor apple issues on occasion it pales in comparison to trashy Windows.

Im thinking about ditching my iPhone....... A lot of things in iOS just don't seem to work properly, my tethered internet has never work, photos go missing out of my camera roll, it won't even load photos and videos I've made on the phone from the camera roll if i have poor network, music I've purchased from iTunes isn't available when I have no network. So I'm thinking I could just save myself £50 a month and not bother having a mobile phone.

My Surface Pro 3 was a pleasant surprise, for me. The new revs look great as well. As a result, I'm certainly integrating Win 10 into my life.

But alas, I just did a Mac refresh. So, I guess I'm a Mac guy for the next couple of years. We're just too committed to the Apple ecosystem, at the moment. But I like where MS is headed, more than Apple. I want to buy fewer things that do more, rather than buying more dedicated stuff.

Hm. Well, I suspect that hat you mean is "not bother with" having a smart phone.

Re the music from iTunes not being available when you have no network, welcome to the new rentier model of music sponsored by Apple.

With storage on the Cloud (promoted by Apple as 'saving' you storage), you are in essence, renting - and paying - for access to your starred music; it is not yours the way that LPs and CDs were yours to play when and where you chose, as long as it was not for profit.

don't want to replace all my devices right now :/
I wish windows had actual smartphones
A thought to share...

Android ... If one approaches it with an open mind and a conscious choice to ignore all the haters posts, even some who claim to have had dreadful personal experiences, is a wonderful smartphone OS.

I've used both iOS and Android since they were released years ago, and Android in particular has matured into an excellent smartphone.

For half the price of my iPhone 6 Plus, I'm enjoying a Moto X Pure. It's more capable, faster smoother and doesn't crash apps like my iPhone does. I'm thrilled with it.

Me personally I am blessed to be able to afford any choice. Basic day to day computing, to be honest is a wash between OSX and Windows10, some have things the others don't, but overall it doesn't make much difference to me.
The big thing for me is my home setup for streaming. I have thousands of movies which I can converted digitally and have them on my mac mini streaming to 4 Apple Tv's in the house. I have tried Roku, I have tried Boxee box, plex, xmbc etc. They were all garbage to me. For me the ease and simplicity of the apple ecosystem is well above any competition. Ya we didn't get 4K with the new apple tv, ya the mac mini is hard to upgrade etc etc, however for me, it's the easiest and best solution at the moment.
Who knows what the future will hold, but for now. Apple is in my life to stay

Also just wanted to mention the imessage integration with OSX is amazing. I love being able to come home, open up my laptop and not needing to touch my phone. I use whatsapp alot and now with whatapp web, it's all covered too.

No. I still have more issues even with Windows 10. Unfortunately, I need to run it for games and Visual Studio :(

Um, what? I pay $15 for an album and it is mine. I can download it and burn it to a CD if I want. Unless you are referring to Apple Music. What about Spotify? Can you access that without network access?

Is there a decent iMessage alternative? My wife sends her friends and myself lots of pictures and videos of our kids.. When I had a Moto X for a week or so and she still had an iPhone any photo/video that was sent was fairly awful. She is not into the new iPhone sizes though so I may be on the hook to find her a 4" phone to replace her 5S once it's time is up.

It's music I've purchased.....

Am I unable to download music to any of my devices then? If so I'll stop spending any money with iTunes.

I think even without iCloud you can share your library to up to 5 devices if I'm not mistaken. I still prefer pruchasing my music (from iTunes mainly) and always back up my library to an external hard disk. Actually palnning on getting a Mac for my next computer, not really interested in tablets and my iPhone works fine for me atm.
